The afk countdown seems to be incredibly short. A few days ago I left my seat for maybe a minute due to a package arriving, get back and i was kicked and banned for 15 minutes. Thats unlucky it happens so i moved on and played another day.
Then today it happened again, super close game in overtime, every second counts and my controller dies without warning. I curse, grab my replacement batteries, make the switch and turn the controller back on. Im logged in, everything in xbox side is working but for some reason overwatch wouldnt react to my controller “reconnect your controller” and i got booted for afk in that short period it took for me to switch batteries and wait for the game to register i was back. I’m so mad at that, due to overwatch AFK timer my team just got a loss and sent all the abusive messages and I couldnt do anything else about the situation other than wait for the game to realise i was back.
Thats why i dont play on console.
Just some helpful advice, if you have a long enough USB charger cable, you can plug it into the controller really quick and be back on faster than a full battery swap. I always keep mine plugged in next to me for my phone, and it has saved my booty countless times.
I mean, wired controllers exist and are in fact better than Bluetooth ones because less input lag, but sure. 
I apprecate it but my cable broke years ago, it sort of got bent from always hanging off the controller and yeah 
had to resort to chargable batteries 
I feel like the afk timer should change depending on what’s happening, if I’m sitting on payload pushing/goalkeeping while my team is pushing the enemy back and there’s nothing for me to shoot at or do but wait, it really shouldn’t kick me. If I’m sitting in spawn and not moving, then yeah, go ahead I deserve it.
Agreed, afk in the starting lobby i understand it being short, you want them kicked before game starts so it can cancel. Mid game id want it a bit longer for when i have to run to get a delivery and if its in a tense overtime i’d expect the most forgiveness cause who is going to willingly go afk in overtime ? we trying to win and have been for 10+ mins at that point.
