Actual Role Queue?

I personally believe that overwatch should really get a legit role queue system. Not the find group thing. I understand how they dont want to define the meta by choosing 2-2-2, but most games people run that anyway. A definite role queue, like the one in League of legend, would avoid 5 support mains on the same team or other people instalocking dps thus you are guilted into playing tank or healer. For example, I planned to play mcree in comp, then during hero selection theres already 2 dps. If I chose mcree, the team would think that I am throwing becuase they except a tank/support. And in many cases there are 3-4 dps on a team which usually results in utter defeat. For quick play they could leave it the same , but for competitive a role queue would be awesome. If anything, they could test it out in arcade mode to see the players response. What do you guys think?

Actual no no?

Sorry, but I don’t want every single comp game to be 2-2-2. It’s boring, and when people like you realise that. You’ll start whining about that as well.

What about a prefer system? Players can choose what they prefer to play before queue. Then when game starts other players can see what they want to play. Then matchmaking would try to get 2-2-2 but the players are not limited in anyway.

Or. Or. Hear me out on this one.
I know it’s crazy.

…

Just use LFG?
You dismiss it so easily for no fricken reason, while it offers the exact thing you are looking for.

Hell you don’t even need to do a 6 stack. Just have a 4 stack with 2 support and 2 tank and let randoms fill in the DPS slots, as there is no shortage on DPS players.

And then the last 2 slots are filled with support/tank mains. But they try to play dps anyway and we get plowed.

Nope, then you run Goats. Which works just fine.

I wish people would stop suggesting lfg as the be all end all solution. literally no one uses it in a high mmr and when you do find a game (after 20 mins may i add) is usually against an actual team.

But what if you and your friend wants to dps, and your other 4 teamates are also dps mains?

Works just fine for the vast majority of players.

High MMR people, well… sucks. Can’t have everything.
If LFG doesn’t “work” for high MMR people, then having a role queue there would have the exact same issue and significantly increase queue times. Not to mention that high MMR meta is very different and they might not follow the 2-2-2 comp.

Then you make a LFG asking for tanks and supports.

Any thoughts on a Role Queue where you can select what team comp(s) you want to join, and what position(s) within that comp you want to queue for?

⚠️ Role + TeamComp MultiQueue

Have you tried using the LFG yourself? That thing takes forever. In addition, some people want to improve on their own, many times in LFG when you find a good team they stick together for more than few matches. I personally want to improve on my role with a different group of people every game. There aren’t enough people in LFG for that. But are you against the idea of adding it to arcade first to test the players’ response?

Just use the lfg function…it’s there for this specific purpose. You can specify which roles you want and you can queue in comp.

It takes forever to find a group. And I want to improve my personal skill, and a good way is to play with different people every game. Many times there would be a carry/smurf doing all the work and I can’t practice. I would hop from group to group but there aren’t enough groups to do that.

It would, lowkey, kill the game. Most players want to play DPS as it is and you still have plenty of DPS-centric compositions even in tank or support heavy metas (because tanks are weak and DPS or OP, clearly). The game relies on tank and support flex players to be guilted into playing those roles. A role queue would create no incentive for them to play the lesser roles and queue times would be astronomical to anyone that is not a dedicated tank or support main. It just, logistically, would not work. It seems their goal is to just keep adding tanks and supports to the game that appeal to DPS players. A bad solution, in my opinion, as dedicated tank and supports do not like the hybrids and DPS are going to stick to DPS. But whatever, I digress, my point is that role queue is just not possible. At least not forced role queue. The best they could do is a preference based system that would ironically be worse than it is now because, again, it gets rid of the need for players to cave and fill.

Yeah, I’ve used it. Yes, it takes longer.
Quality over quantity applies though: games I played through LFG were usually much more fun, coordinated, and successful.

The only downside I found with LFG is that it locks you into a certain composition and doesn’t allow you to adapt on the fly.
And that composition can be countered by simply switching out. Once that happens, you’re bound to lose or you have to put in a disproportional amount of effort to win.

This effect would only be amplified with forced role queueing.

What NEEDS to happen is that players need to learn more roles, and be encouraged to do so.
I am a tank main. It’s my preferred role.
But I can play Soldier and Pharah for DPS just fine. And any support except for Lucio.

I’ve had games where I needed to play DPS or support and am doing just fine.
Flexing is underrated, and more people need to do it. Devs only need to add in an SR bonus for wins if you are a flexer and you will have much, much less issues with roles already.

But do you really want to play a game where you are guilted into playing a role you dont like? But do so, because you want to win. Overtime this becomes very annoying and stressful.

No. Of course not. That is just, sadly, how the game is designed. I feel bad for the players that do it consistently, my sister does it and it grates on her. She just wants to play Bastion and Torbjorn from time to time but nobody is willing to play tank/support so that is 90 percent of her play-time. I feel bad. But… It is not really the fault of DPS players, the developers made the problem by design. There is no fixing it, either. They are trying their best by releasing interesting tanks and supports to try and encourage people to naturally play those roles. But at a rate of only one every 4 months, that is just not going to happen.

I am also a tank main who plays 2 dps and 2 other supports. The problem with LFG for me is that I am playing with the same group. I would like to improve my personal skill. Within a group 1-2 people could potentially be carrying the entire group, thus I would not be able to see my improvement as clearly. Once again, Are you against the idea of Bilzzard adding role queue to arcade to see player response? If so why?

patience… is a virtue.

I am personally against it because if the player response is positive, they might go through with it officially. A LOT of people would just play QP over competitive and that almost defeats the purpose of both.
