To those who keep using overbuff for statistics:
-
Is overbuff impacted by private profiles?
-
Why is Symmetra still categorized as a support?
I’m genuinely curious

“Overbuff supports my argument and therefore it’s 100% valid”
Do you know how polling data works?
And theres still Offense and Defense category.
Yes all statistic websites are however you don’t need 100% of the population to get an accurate statistic, and if you only relied on a statistic that is 100% of the population even if just in a single country, you wont find one as none use 100% of the population rather just a smaller sample size while still fairly large to get an accurate read even if not 100% accurate
I don’t know you’d have to ask the developers of the site, probably the same reason they still have a defense category on the website and its something to do with the code of the website where they cant change a characters class without completely rewriting the code or somethin
Thank you for the answer. I was expecting pure passive aggressive remarks
Why people use it? Because that’s the only data we have access to. Apart from overbuff we have nothing.
Not really by a significant margin.
Because they don’t really have to change it.
Overbuff only uses data from people who look up their profile, so not at all.
Yes, however the sample set is still easily large enough to be reliable. Even if the very exact specifics are a little off, it still gives us a general idea of what’s going on.
On my old computer I used to have pictures of the Overbuff Pickrate Trends for the timeframe of before and after private profiles were introduced. At best it was just like a 0.5% difference. It really, really doesn’t effect the outcome that much. Anyone who tells you otherwise just because it doesn’t have access to the full 100% of the population just doesn’t know the basic concepts behind a survey or sample size.
This does bug me, too. Along with the Offense/Defense set up. It’s probably just because the people who made the site are a little lazy nowadays and only come in and update it when a new hero comes out, and that’s all they do. Hell, they might even be able to automate that much if they’re careful.
Doesn’t mean the site’s inaccurate as a whole, just be sure to take numbers with a grain of salt if you look at just one specific role.
Nah, it uses data from the entire playerbase ( with public profiles) but it can’t list certain information until you link your account. Still includes date from people who haven’t visited the site ever.
To op: people know it’s not perfect but imperfect data is better than none.
Because the site was made before the DPS role was made, back when Sym was matched with the only other 3 support heroes at the time which were Mercy, Lucio, and Zenyatta. Back when Sym 1.0 gave you 75 shield health by pressing e on your model.
Don’t know why they haven’t updated the roles yet, or if they can. But that’s probably the reason why.
Blizzard should release an official statistics site that is updated daily so we can have official numbers to discuss.
Sadly i doubt they will ever do this.
No problem always happy to help
I was expecting to have seen more in here than what we’ve gotten so far
Even if Overbuff was 100% accurate, I really wonder sometimes why people only point to GM stats.
As if that doesn’t change rapidly whenever the meta shifts.
Overbuff is not impacted by private profiles since it cannot gather their data.
The damage, and support roles have not been updated
Overbuff does offer good statistics, however, you shouldn’t pay any mind to the percentile it gives your heroes since that is affected by both your rank and playtime as well. Only individual stats.
If you want a better idea of your placings without these affecting stats try omnicmeta.
Yes.
Because she is a support hero that out damages DPS characters.
Contrary to that is the same thing everyone says about Sombra. She’s not a DPS character, she’s a support hero, that Blizzard randomly one day called her a DPS, without actually giving her any DPS to speak of.
Symmetra is a support hero that does more DPS than 1/2 the DPS characters.
That’s not true. It only ever gathers stats if you visit a profile, you can even test it yourself.
I still struggle with the fact that people don’t understand how surveys work and sample sizes
I still trust it more than someone’s opinion, that’s my main reason for using it.
