Accessibility Feature: Crosshair problems and feedback

I was pleasantly surprised by the new crosshair system features you added in the recent update.
This is a really good update especially for players with vision problems.
Before this, I didn’t expect such attention to a feedback issue with fewer voices. Thank you! I firmly believe this is a considerable aid for all the OW2 players who had issues with this. :orange_heart:

However, I’d like to bring up a few problems I’ve identified:

Problems I’ve found:

  • The new crosshair options, ‘outline thickness’ and ‘outline shift,’ don’t have an effect on the default crosshairs of some heroes such as Hanzo etc.(only the “outline opacity” option works)
  • When we increase the ‘outline thickness’ while decreasing the ‘outline shift’ values, the outline progressively covers the crosshair, gradually obscuring the crosshair color until it becomes black (making it completely unusable).
Alongside this issue, there are strange dark pixel artifacts appearing, akin to overlapping layers. This is especially noticeble at 1080P, mainly occurring at the external and internal ends of the crosshair. (This dark pixel issue doesn’t occur with the Circle or Dot reticles).
  • Quite noticeable at 1080p, since both of these new options are based on the existing ‘outline opacity’ value. If the original ‘outline opacity’ is not dark enough, increasing the ‘outline thickness’ value will only result in a faint shadow, not making the crosshair more clear and sharp.(our original issue was the crosshair not being sharp and clear enough which causes eye fatigue. A more visible crosshair is much appreciated)
  • The ‘outline thickness’ option for the crosshair doesn’t seem to thicken the original outline. Instead, it overlays a new outline on top of the original faint one. This results in the original faint outline being sandwiched between the crosshair color and the new, thicker outline, creating a white gap. This issue was never present in OW1 (I’ve compared this in both OW1 and OW2, with a resolution of 1440p). I don’t believe it was intentionally designed this way, was it?

An easy solution:

You could simply increase the existing ‘outline opacity’ setting’s max strengh value 100 to pure black (0,0,0) #000000.
Or in other words, increase the maximum value of the outline opacity to enhance the outline’s intensity, making it appear as a sharp, solid black line.

Reasons:

  1. Adjusting the ‘outline opacity’ value affects the default reticles of heroes such as Hanzo etc.
  2. Most players would be satisfied just by only adjusting this setting. For instance, I personally just need a crosshair outline that is completely black with a thickness of 1.
I believe most people would prefer this way as well.(This setting also doesn’t seem to have the issue of obscuring the original reticle’s color)
  3. The maximum value of ‘outline opacity’ in OW1 is darker than in OW2. Increasing this setting’s maximum value to pure black would make it more familiar for veterans of OW1. Meanwhile, those who felt crosshair was not visible enough, with the increased outline intensity (pure black) players can get a clearer and sharper crosshair. Those who prefer a lighter crosshair setting could decrease the ‘outline opacity.’ This would provide more customization options for players.
  4. This adjustment should not take much of your time; I understand you guys are quite busy!

In conclusion, it’s heartwarming to see our feedback taken into account. I really hope that OW becomes better and better with a dev team that genuinely listens to the community!

If there are any points I’ve not made clear, or anything you’re struggling to understand, sorry about that. feel free to add me on battlenet or send me an email. I am more than happy to contribute to this game in whatever way I can.

Once again, thank you so much for your dedication and hard work. Your responsiveness to our concerns truly enhances our gaming experience.

The new patch came out, but unfortunately, this problem still exists… i mean more and more features being added, which is great! but why they keep missing on this small adjustment…

I’ve seen many threads discussing this specific issue of outline opacity. It’s strange that they continue to skip over such a seemingly minor yet important detail.
