I just want to make sure people realize and understand the context this what said in as I personally think the other thread made was rather dishonest by not including the full sentence to create knee jerk reactions which judging by the likes and amount of posts it got, I’d say it succeeded.
The full statement was
It felt like COD, we were just going at it respawn after respawn, just nonstop fighting
and it was specifically about the new game mode Push which is going to be more KoTH style in that it’s less tactical and positional than the others but more brawly.
That make it even worse for me then.
Basicially it means i going to dislike this mode too.
And with 2cp gone… welp i will not leave arcade again if i will be still playing
CoD historically has not been a game where you group up to win team fights, it’s been a game where you just frag out endlessly, respawn and back in.
The key to success on ladder in Overwatch since it’s creation has been not playing like that. Group up, take a team fight. No staggering, no trickling.
What he’s describing even in the full context of that tweet is 180 degrees NOT what the Overwatch playerbase plays or, I suspect, wants to play.
Considering that most of the playerbase can’t handle 2CP and struggle to take coordinated team fights I’d actually hard disagree with this statement. For the casual OW player I believe that modes like KoTH and Push which is essentially KoTH with a moving objective will be more approachable and fun to them as it’s basically nonstop action
The word is feeding. And those of us who attempted to climb ladder find that not a good way to play if you want to climb. I’m sure casual Andy who plays on weekends with a beer on the table next to him loves the idea, though.
That’s the thing about a game like this. Better players will find the optimal way of playing it so that it becomes more tactical and less casual. This game has never been played the same way in casual vs. high rank vs. pro environment
More to the point, the thing that makes Push more like COD is that fights happen literally everywhere on the map as the Robot is moving back and forward throughout the environment. There isn’t an objective in a fixed location or moving along a pre-set path from points A to B to C.
In every other game-mode, you know where the next team-fight is going to be: it’s either going to be exactly where the last teamfight was, at the next agreed-upon chokepoint before the next point or it’s going to be on the next point. In Push, it will anywhere between your spawn and the robot.
People are overreacting to a quote taken out of context, and I say that as someone who does not want to play COD.
I laughed to myself when he said that live because I knew how some people would react. The guy was just trying to convey how hectic it was, and hectic is good. I don’t want to play Slow-verwatch and from the sounds of it, neither does he.
Personally, I want “non-stop action”. I don’t want Paris Walking Simulator™ if I happen to die all the way over at point A. I like the game when it’s faster paced.
Also, nice job Custa at sticking the dagger into 2CP whenever possible. My man.
That is essentially still what current KoTH is IMO so it’s not that it’s going away from being OW as it’s something that was already part of the game from the very beginning, we just get another game mode similar to it.
