There are a number of players demanding the name be changed on Twitter, enough that Dexerto covered an article on it. So it’s not just curiosity.

There’s no reason to change it. Everyone is going to call him McCree forever anyway if they do. Also, there’s a whole novel about him now.

I love our guilty until proven innocent society.

I’m not saying he didn’t do it, but I am saying he has a right to defend himself in court and not have his name scrubbed from the Internet for being accused of something.

Also, it’s what blizz does - they fired Quinton Flynn and removed his voicelines, when he got accused, even tho his name was cleared.
It was them, who didn’t wait with removing all references of Afrasiabi from WoW.
It was not socially. It was blizz.

4 years of the character… even with the new name, “Jesse McCree” isn’t going away anytime soon… if at all.

Maybe just stuck it down as McCree? Just McCree?

It’s a public forum, you made a public post and I’m making a public reply addressing your OP.

I assume you mean ‘society.’

Blizz are clearly making the change because they know how the public (society) are going to react because it’s already happening:

  • people scouring all Blizz games for any mention of the accused in Blizz IPs
  • taking to Twitter/forums to point out ‘Blizz support harassers’ by leaving names in games and demanding they get changed/removed
  • Blizz taking the easy path and changing them to appease people as performative action

It’s actually hilarious how easily people are appeased when you think about it… :rofl:

Tbh I don’t watch twitter, but I think blizz makes too quick and bad decisions about it. First those statements, that made things even more and now hasty removal things from games…

I’m expecting them to remove all mention of Jessie in game and just keep McCree. Which I would be okay with, having his exact name in game is distasteful but completely changing it would feel weird.

Ultimately we have to just wait and see.

Honestly I don’t think it’s that important. Like, when I think of Cree, I don’t think of the dev who what a sequel abuser, I think of the hero. When I see the hero, I will forever think cree.

I think it fits him fine, I guess theu could change the first name at most.
