About Map Pools

Has anyone seen a comment from Blizzard explaining why they decided to do this?

It legitimately makes no sense to me.

Something I wish they’d do is let us select a preferred map, giving us the chance to play on a favored map more often. I rarely get King’s Row and yet I’ve always loved games on that map.

I believe the reason given was to keep seasons feeling unique and fresh

Yeah Ive already played all the maps so far and I miss Hollywood & Numbani most of all.

Ive seen more of Shambali Monastery & Blizzard World more than anything. Maps I dislike so much.

There’s a little freshness for about a week, then two months of staleness.

The stated reason is to make every season feel unique. The real answer is more likely that they didn’t get all the 5v5 map reworks and different day/night/etc versions done on time for launch.

So that they can give us back old maps and spin it as something new and fresh in an attempt to convince people to come back to the game they’re killing.

…oh I like the ‘wishlist’ type idea. I’m surprised they don’t even test it to see how players interact with it…?

Everything they’re doing is all about that new season launch day blog post. They want a big changelog, with lots of new stuff to make the season exciting. Their whole business model revolves around getting people to come back for each season, even if only for a little while. So the map pool means that every season comes with a few “new” maps that you haven’t seen in a while. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

I wonder if people actually spend money during this 4-minute period where old maps coming back feels fresh. I know I sure won’t

I’m sure launch day is their single biggest day for battle pass sales.

To give each season its own unique and stale feeling of course.

Because they hate fun. If I could choose my mode it would be only payload/hydrid,or even better I would play only kings row , midtown , hollywood and gibraltar…you kinda see the problem here yes? :flushed:

I miss Hollywood. I would be so happy if they brought it back.

What’s worse than a map you don’t like is that that map, like Eichenwalde for example, will repeat 2-3 times. There’s no excuse for that.

It’s insane. We’re missing:

Gibraltar
Numbani
Hollywood
Havana
Anubis
Volskaya
Hanamura
Horizon
Paris

Even if Push mode didn’t suck donkey d, Overwatch does not have anywhere near enough maps to remove so many and not get very repetitive very quickly.

The map pools would not be so bad if they refreshed 2/3 times during a season right now the same few maps get way to repetitive half way through a season.

This is made worse when the same maps are put up in back to back seasons… More so when those maps are push.

I don’t have the link at the moment, but it was Keller I believe that said the map pools were put in place to make each season feel “unique” and “Fresh”

they are an artificial way to pretend they have new content each season
