I thought many times about their relationship, and how close these two are.Brig seems really honored being her godfather’s squire and ive been thinking what if their relationship extended pass the honor and glory? What are the odds of the two of them being in a romantic relationship?Brig seems to mention rein much more that torbjorn.
Maybe her need to prove herself comes from somewhat ‘‘shame’’ se has about being in love with her godfather which some people may consider taboo
Its a bit farfetchd but i think it would add much more to both the heroe’s characters.Let me know what do you guys think about this theory
Okay, I know this fandom likes its crack pairings and I normally would not shame them, but this one just has red flags written all over it.
First of all, that age difference is horrendous… Reinhardt is older than her father, you don’t see anything weird about that?
Second, Reinhardt is her godfather and like an uncle figure to her, he’s known her since she was a baby (literally he named her). That’s just plain creepy and wrong and basically grooming
Third, their dynamic is supposed to be a knight and squire, Reinhardt is her mentor and she admires him in that way and because he’s like family, not romantically. She’s the level headed one that keeps Rein from going too far and endangering himself. It’s just not like that

Torbjorn gave Reinhardt the right to be her godfather and name her because Reinhardt saved torbjorns life. Brigitte talks about Reinhardt a lot because she looks up to him. He spent her youth telling her stories of a bygone age, his tales of victory and triumph. He Also teaches her how to fight, and helps her practice.
She admires him. She doesn’t want to get busy with him in the back of route 66’s coffee shop.

You know, this Reinhardt and Brigitte ship you’re talking about is way more wrong than e.g. Mercy and Genji are.

I think she sees him more as a father figure since he was there at her birth when Törb couldn’t be

I don’t think Brig sees Reinhardt as more of a father/a replacement father figure for Torb. Torb and Brigitte spent lots of quality time together tinkering with stuff in Torb’s garage, and she joined the same guild he is a part of and became a mechanical engineer like him rather than a chemical engineer like Ingrid. Torb was present in Brig’s life and they still have a great relationship that wasn’t strained by career choices (in dire contrast to Ana and Fareeha Amari)

So my situation is more similar to Amari family, to Fareeha’s.
So I hope Pharah will get more lore. She’s my soulmate.
Need to change to new picture of her. hehe

No way bro she’s my soul mate too!
That’s sweet, and I hope she gets more lore too some day (esp with her and Ana reuniting finally)

They are knight and squire in this case. That is the dynamic I got.
What you talk of happens in real life. But ‘normally’ there is something ‘wrong’ or ‘missing’ (like you mentioned: shame, or hardship, father absent…etc) for it to be the case. Otherwise, why would a woman in her age love a man in his age?
Now, if they use this as a ‘story device’ to tell that story, that is interesting. Moral complexity in video games is welcomed. I mean, does anyone remember in BioShock when you had the choice of either ‘saving the little sister or harvesting (killing) her?’ That was probably one of the most memorable moments in video games for me. It was very hard to watch and made you think. It is also one of the most talked about moments in video games’ history.
Here is the moral question though: Who gets to decide in this case what is ‘acceptable’, you? I? Society? Or her?

I didnt think of it much as a ship.More like a what if scenario. since they already have such a strong duo dynamic.Ive been thinking about it for some days and was curious if anyone else thought of them like that (even though that doesnt seem to be the case xd)

Nah, she is 21, and he is in his 60s, and he has practically raised her. That would be creepy as hell.
He also is her god father.
There is a reason this stuff is usually taboo. Because this is creepy.
This would be like screwing your uncle.

I agree with you, they already have a strong relationship. My thought was what if on top of their knight and squire dynamic there was a more romantic behind the scene (as long as it would add something to the storytelling)
To answer the moral question you set, i would personally never judge any relationship as long as it is consexual, and i dont think anyone can except the two of them. But in the eyes of society such a relationship is considered taboo keeping in mind the monstrous age gap.
But you mentioned bioshock and i find that a great example. You said it was one of the most memorable moments in video games for you.(Correct me if I am wrong)I think in some ways (but not exclusively)you found the controversy appealing.Like it added an extra layer of depth in the story, and that is the way i though about Reinhart and Brgette relationship
I think it’s creepier than Pharah x Mercy.
There’s too much trust within Torb’s family and Rein for it to be acceptable to be romantic
Why did you even bring up Pharmercy? A 5 year age gap between two adults who didn’t even know each other as kids very well is nothing compared to a 37 year age gap between a godfather uncle-figure who named his best friend’s daughter and knew her her whole life

The fact that the poster would even compare the two is…baffling, honestly.

It’s because some people think the dynamic of pharmercy is that Mercy “groomed” Pharah or something… they probably met like once tops while Pharah was a kid and they obviously don’t even talk now… but apparently rein x brigitte is okay

I can gaurentee you there is absolutely no romantic love between the two…only familial. She is a lot like Reinhardt and has a warrior spirit in her, closely resembling Reinhardt more than Torb, hence her closeness. She even acts like him at times as can be seen from some of her sprays.
She loved his stories as a child and wanted to be like him later in life, realizing just being an armor Smith wasn’t her dream. She looks up to him. She wants to keep him safe because he is family. She knows she’s the only one who can keep an eye on him and feels obligated to do so. She doesn’t really like OW because of how they treated him.

It indeed added depth. The Bioshock moment was ‘controversial’ because in general the ‘rule’ in entertainment (Hollywood came up with this) is ‘you don’t show harm being done to children on the screen’. At leas not directly. Not in movies, TV, and of course video-games. I can understand why, but I also think it defeats the purpose and makes us 1. Numb when we hear or watch children being harmed in real life (meaning, we just don’t want to know anything about it or if it exists). 2. It makes us unable to think (popular in a society like ours these days), therefore we won’t be able to deal with a situation like it if it ever occurs. Not to get into politics, but if that moment in BioShock was controversial with one child, what would people say if they knew that the death toll of children in a most recent war mounted to hundreds of thousands?!
I personally don’t like violence for violence’s sake. Blood, gore, whatever, any type. But if you’re going to talk about war, a pandemic, a global apocalypse type of situation, then you have to ‘play it for real’. Show the cost. Show the naked truth. And most importantly, ask the controversial/moral questions…
As for the Rein/Brigitte dynamic (and btw, Brig is my absolute favourite character in OW because she is so positive), I personally like the knight/squire setup and that’s it. But I would say it is up to the writers if they want to tell another story (like the one you hinted at). Taboo or not. I just hope they won’t do it for just controversy’s sake either (that would be silly). If they did it in such a way that we understand what Brig had to go through (father absent, no positive male role models in her life,…etc), and why she is behaving the way she did towards Rein, then that’s fine, but hopefully, it will resolve with her finding a man her age (that’s me being bias, ha!). Most importantly, again, ask those moral questions and let us think about it… Something the mob of 1984 (the novel), which operates in our society today, don’t want to because it plays against their agendas…
