From what they said in regards to Echo and the concepts people used to think was Athena, it doesn’t seem at all likely now. And honestly, it would be pretty redundant to have both.

i’ll agree the psychic comment wasn’t necessary, it wasn’t intended to be “super intensively aggro”, so i’ll apologize to that, but i’m pretty sure i was genuinely confused at the start, and that seems like it could “contribute” enough, if other people were wondering the same thing

Echo has a very similar design compared to Athena concept art. I thought she’d be implemented due to all of the concept arts and appearances she’s had before in the game.
Athena is an AI program with no physical body, who also serves as the announcer for the game. They’re not going to make her playable.

It’s been confirmed that the concept art that looks like Echo was never intended to be Athena. They just added the logo to fill the white space.

In the old picture… Sometimes what an artist like Arnold does is say, ‘There’s too much white space, I want to put a logo on,’ so he just put the Athena logo on the model. And the community embraced that model as being Athena. Athena is actually Winston’s AI, which is a separate thing - this character is separate from being Athena. The players also know Athena as the narrator of the competitive matches as well. But this is Echo, who is somebody completely different.
