Abandoned/undeveloped plotlines

There’s a whole load of stuff going on in Overwatch lore, but sadly a lot of it’s been abandoned or never developed upon. Here’s a list of the stuff that comes to mind.

  • Katya Volskya getting tech from omnics
  • Junkrat’s treasure
  • Whatever that cube in McCree’s comic was
  • Symmetra beginning to doubt Vishkar
  • Recall (enough of heroes receiving recall at the end of their short, maybe they could, idk, actually meet up?)
  • Hanzo after the Dragon’s short
  • What went down when Overwatch fell
  • Sombra’s all-seeing-eye
  • Reaper knowing Sombra has her own agenda

Feel free to add anything else you can think of.

I don’t think you can really consider anything “abandoned” or “given up on” until the story has ended. There’s till the potential for all of these plotlines to be resolved.

Yes, but some of them haven’t been touched in years, which leaves me with certain doubts. McCree’s comic was released almost 3 years ago for example.

Reaper spying on that family, Doomfists “we have a war to start”, D.va’s existence because she’s literally the only character with no ties to overwatch or talon or the story at all, pretty much all the comics honestly (McCree’s cube and Sym’s doubts are the ones I’ve been waiting for the most, can’t even touch on them with an interaction?)

I feel like Talon spends most of their time sitting round tables rather than actually starting any of their evil plots. I’d love to see more conflict in Overwatch’s story. More than just little side missions.

The trouble is he has some really interesting ideas, they just don’t lead anywhere.

I honestly thought this thread would’ve listed the main story as an abandoned plot line at this point.

Literally the first reply to this topic explains why the idea of “abandoned” or “undeveloped” plotlines doesn’t make sense.

The story isn’t over. It’s in progress. It moves slowly. None of the plotlines have been officially abandoned because the story isn’t finished. There is a possibility that every single mentioned plotline will be resolved at a future date.

Does nobody here watch TV series or read books or watch movies? A plot point introduced in episode 1 isn’t “abandoned” if it’s left unexplained or unexplored until episode 30. You just haven’t seen it because episode 30 hasn’t aired yet. That’s kinda the point.

Whether or not you like the current pace of the story is a different theme of discussion. Some stories move slowly. Overwatch is one of those. It happens. It’s not ideal and not everybody will enjoy it, but it doesn’t mean the story abandons its plotlines.

If it moves too slowly people are going to just stop caring. I know I’m starting to not really care because the things in the story I care about, like Junkrat’s treasure, Bastian’s acceptance, Sombra’s findings, are almost the same now as they were three years ago.

That may be true, but taking this long to resolve them will seriously diminish the player base.

The player base generally doesn’t care. They mostly just want to play a fun game. The shorts are nice and popular, but all the comics are short stories, and I find most players don’t really care and just want to play the game.

Reaper knowing about Sombra’s own agenda wasn’t abandoned he told Doomfist and Doomfist didn’t mind as her hidden agenda was currently benefiting he’s ideal talon.

However I like to see if he knows Sombra had been keeping Baptise safe from the shadows.

I think it was he’s family, at least he’s wife and child anyway nothing more.
Just showing he’s not a complete heartless killing machine the same way they showed Widow at the grave.

Despite their conditions the overwatch characters still desire past joy and desire a normal life.

  1. Jack despite what he said clearly still holding a flame for Vincent or regretting he’s lost life with him.

  2. Ana trying to fix her home and regretting what she did to Sam and Fareeha.

  3. Gabe looking at his family that has moved on in his absence. Still caring about them despite what he has become.

  4. Amélie despite her reprogramming and brainwashing still has attachments to Gérard, mourning his loss

  5. Even small things like
Olivia keeping her childhood bear close to her for comfort despite being thirty.
Reinhardt’s whole knight of Justice persona is a way of him avoiding saying goodbye to his previous life and settling down.

The less of plot devices more just ways of fleshing characters out
