A thought on Level/Time played

About two weeks ago, I was on a pretty solid win streak. I went from 1485 up to 1700something. Last season (99% sure) I ended at 1925. I have less than 400 hours played, and a lot of that is now in ranked play. Six seasons, but only the last three did I take ranked serious. The first three I did placements, but did not have much time for ranked play. ANYWAY.

The past week has been basically all losses, and I noticed one pretty obvious common piece of that. Now, note that I am not blaming these people. I am not saying they are the reason we lost. NOT AT ALL!

What I am saying is that virtually every single match I was in, there was a person on either team, that had OVER 850 hours played, and almost all of it was played in ranked. But one common factor of them all? They are ultra one tricks. One guy had almost 1,400 hours played as Dva and 800 hours as Mei. NEVER BEEN HIGHER THAN SILVER. How do you have 2200ish hours played in ranked and you still have not gotten higher than 1800?

I noticed these people a long time ago, but I never knew what the borders were. I thought the border was just what rank they ended with from the previous season. I was wrong, but yeah. I figured out that it was an indication of how many hours they have played, or about how many hours. Almost every match I lost, these players with over 800 hours and never higher than silver…were on my team. I would say maybe 12 matches did not have that. And that is not a lot out of all the matches I played.

My motto? And I have had this for a while…If you are level 500+ and have never been out of silver even once? Just uninstall. You are either unskilled, or are intentionally throwing.

Why do I say that? Because they are actually ruining games. Not that other people can not do that, trust me I know that anybody can ruin it. But that would weed out a good portion of the problem.
Why is it a problem? Your bad habbits are rubbing off on new or learning players in QP, giving them the impression of “hey, this guy has played for 800 hours? He/She must know a lot about the game, let me learn from them”.
Your bad habbits are actually making the game a more toxic place by default, because people keep that mentality through their ranked experience.
Your bs talking about “I have gold damage, im carrying” rubs off on them and they go into ranked thinking that all that matters is their fancy medals. Then they never learn or grow or change. They just stagnate , and create a perpetual series of losses and salt for everybody else.

Your 1000 hours played, and having never gotten out of Silver, is just making the game worse for you and for everybody else.
Either play seriously, or uninstall. I will be doing that, because I do not want to be a permanent detriment to the game for everybody else. If I reach level 500+, and i have never ever been out of Silver? Bye Overwatch, I will not be messing it up for everybody else.

Yup.

People in low ranks with really good aim, many hours played, but stay in the low ranks.

The reason for this is it’s easier and they enjoy just shredding low tier players.

So they intentionally stay at low ranks because the higher ones are harder.

The idea that everyone in silver and bronze is a complete doofus is wrong.

That was 5 seasons ago.

Things have changed since.

No. Every one of them is terrible. I have yet to see any of these level 500+ people that were good. They refused to work with the team, they flat out refuse to change or switch to something that is needed, like a tank or healer. Nope, they have to autolock into Genji and then proceede to just dive in 1v6 and die and then shout at the healers for not healing them. They are the mercy who only focues on healing the duo-que buddy. They are the D.Va that literally wastes every ult they do because they can not aim it, or use it at appropriate times. they have no understanding of basic tactical logic, they have no grasp on obvious things like walking into a junkrat trap thats sticking a foot out of the ground…

What’s hard to believe that some people simply don’t have the capacity for serious improvement despite time spent? We can’t all be masters players, and some people regardless of time spent won’t be able to break those lower thresholds.

Again, unskilled doesn’t equal throwing. They’re playing at their rank, what about that implies they have to stop? Getting higher SR playing comp is a GOAL, its not an inevitability

just wanting to say I played mostly qp after i originally ranked really low bronze in my first few weeks owning overwatch, needless to say I learned my lesson and to qp until i was ready, really only did my placements every season, and now(i think it’s my 4th or 5th season now) I’m actually working to rank up and have gained about 500 sr solo queuing and im hoping to get to silver by the end of this season.

I know I’m not the only one in that predicament. I’m over level 400 rn and work really hard to fill where I need or play tanks and healers that get decent damage and shielding in. Generalizing and being tilted doesn’t help a team at all. It is easy to tell when people are purposefully throwing, and I would check the people’s competitive seasons, cause some of them used to be GM/plat players- those are the ones you need to watch out for because they’re usually deranking and throwing on purpose.
