Ah ok thanks though man, I didn’t see a guide or tutorial to all the forum features.
Because the art style of the game appeals to girls a lot. Overwatch is very colorful compared to the bland coloring of other shooters. Also the community here isn’t as toxic as most other shooters.
I’m a woman, and the only multiplayer shooter I play is Overwatch. Games such as CoD have never appealed to me because they seem more focused on Deathmatches and personally I don’t find them very interesting.
Overwatch has an engaging artstyle and unique characters beyond the Generic Shooty Man, which I would say definitely plays a part in attracting a larger female audience. I was watching a friend play back in 2016, and what drew me to the game was watching her play Mercy, Pharah, Reaper, and Widowmaker. Not only did they look interesting in design, but I thought playing their abilities myself would be extremely fun, and I was right - For extended periods of time during my own Overwatch “career”, I’ve mained Mercy and Reaper.
Another aspect of the game that intrigued me was the soundtrack, specifically the music that plays during the post-game scores screen. I remember very clearly looking up that music so I could hear it again, and then listening to extended versions of every theme I could find and listening to them that night, and during that time I told myself “Alright, we’re buying this game as soon as possible!”
When I played Ranked over the span of about three years I always used Voice Chat and often shotcalled, and I’d encounter another woman (at least, another woman using VC) in about 1/6 matches I played, maybe? Unless they were unpleasant it was always a nice surprise because finding other women in-game has always been relatively rare for me. For the men as well, considering I’d often be met with “IT’S A GIIIIIIRL!” the moment I started speaking. Although I can’t say that ever bothered me because they weren’t doing it to be malicious, just…genuine excitement haha. I sincerely cannot recall any time I’ve been harassed for my gender, and I’m pretty sure I’d remember such a thing if it happened.
Might have something to do with you calling them females lmao.
A lot of those that I’ve met kinda went in for the aesthetics and then found out that this is a way easier and interesting game to get into than the alternatives are, of which they don’t share the same feelings towards
But that’s proper grammar for my sentence? I don’t call women “females” when talking to them, I talk to them as I would anyone else.
It was a joke, and it still would have been more fitting for you to say “women” than “females”.
This thread gives me “not like other girls” vibes…
Actually, as someone who drives for a living, I’m pretty sure the counter is 50/50 for all drivers on the road period.
I think an underrated aspect is with how big it was, a massive number of girls were in all at once. Video games have been a probably male dominated market for a long time and to get into other FPSes you’re going to be the odd one out. Here you had strength in numbers and so while you may have the “It’s a girl”, “Get back in the kitchen”, “Play Mercy, she’s a girl hero” stuff, you aren’t uniquely singled out and there are other women around.
I noticed this and thing with in person things too. A girl may show up, but if they were the only one, fitting in was difficult, and none stuck around more than a couple weeks. If there’s a few others, they’ll stay even if a minority.
ikr, i mean all i do is just call them garbage mercy mains. idk why they so mad wowzers
/s
Girls aren’t a monolith. They can like meat, guns, videogames and action movies just like everyone else.
Mercy, a hero anyone can pick up. Gets way too much value for little effort. Pretty character
DVA is fun to play and simple. Most e girls play Mercy/ DVA
Irrespective of gender, I find support players to be irritatingly toxic or demanding when I am off roling as tank or dps. Kinda makes me sad
Help me out here, I’m old and have never learned what an “egirl” is.
There are non-eboys among those younger than 30?
In EU the vast majority of them are nice. But the ones who are toxic are real toxic.
This being said most people on VoIP these days are really nice. You always get the odd idiot but I really don’t understand where this whole “OW is literally cancer” because as someone who comes from csgo where most people were super toxic (myself included) or COD or battlefield or any other game, this is way nicer.
You’ve probably given us reason for it.
More than that, I think it was the team aspect. It’s not that more girls were playing Overwatch, it’s that more girls were forced to reveal themselves for the sake of teamwork. You don’t need that in normal shooters, you just mind your own business. Even before Overwatch, I’d played games with a surprising amount of girls in them, but those were also team based games where I wouldn’t have known they were also girls if there was no need to communicate.
“e” means something to do with online. so girls who play games online or stream on twitch or similar platforms are “e” girls
so arguably you can say guys who play games online are “e” boys
That’s actually a myth. When Valorant came out, there were more woman playing Valorant than playing Overwatch.
Maybe at the start, there were more women but they probably lost their mains, because the devs reworked Symm and Mercy to the point they have barely anything to do with their former self.
