A skill change idea for Moira on drain

It occurred to me that one way to allow the low mechanical skilled players to enjoy Moira but reward those that have better tracking skill (and raise her skill floor) would be to increase damage when the targeting reticle is nearest the center of an area. Imagine say 3 concentric rings around the center of Moira’s grasp with decreasing damage. If tracking was perfect, and stayed inside the “bulls-eye” area she would get max damage, and less as you moved out per ring. This would reward good Moira trackers and distinguish them from those with less skill who would still benefit from regen on the resource pool, the only real defensible argument for requiring DPS as Moira. If the beam was tight, like a Sym or Zarya beam, one would already have a skill distinction, as it stands there is very little room for error with even the most basic tracking skills. I wouldn’t even be opposed to an increased damage for dead on tracking in the “bulls-eye” ring.

Umm. So the idea is good but knowing blizzard I’d be buggy as heck and never get fixed. Also there would be very minor difference on the dmg since her primary does little dmg. VERY LITTLE
I think I’d be better that the closer the crosshair is the faster your healing recharges

As I said, it could be raised the closer to the center. Her primary does 50 DPS, thats’ not bad considering she often uses orb for 50 more and self-heals. OTOH, I can see the current engine having bugs with this. Moira is a not a weak character despite all attempts to portray her as such. The numbers just don’t show that.

A shame, a better tracking mechanic would be useful in other cases as well I bet.

I like the direction behind this concept! But I gotta ask, is the center her current 50 DPS and the outer layers lower? From the sound of your post, she’d be able to do more than 50 when tracking well. Moira gets 100 DPS on anyone (unless there’s armor) she’s hitting with both succ and orb, which deprives the team from her heals but is already sufficient to kill. As someone who plays Moira I worry that giving an increase to her DPS would make people just wanna play a better DPS Moira than everyone else… Which can work and is a viable strat depending on the situation but I don’t see it making anyone’s opinion of Moira any higher.

I think in fairness, a lower DPS in the outer ring below now, about the same or slightly lower center ring, and maybe a slight boost in the center. I mean there has to be some reward for better mechanical skill in the kit, and it would make her somewhat more viable higher up. we wouldn’t be talking huge number changes in a design like that for better tracking, but it should be a definite reward. Right now too many people with utterly poor tracking skills get rewarded identically to those with much better, this would put some better skill/reward into the kit.

So just like off the top of my head, actual balance aside, it might look like: 35 DPS outer, 45 middle, 55 center?

I am thinking something like that, yes. I think this would help “even her out” across tiers more as well, or at least I believe it would help.

I was thinking too how the visual indictor might work, perhaps the beam pulses larger or less translucent depending on the ring… kind of how Zarya’s beam used to work.

That’s… Actually pretty cool, like someone else said there might be bugs but as I play Zarya too I could definitely stay mostly in the 45-55 range with ease. Definitely hurts worse Moiras, and makes it harder to get those kills where you’re still doing 50 DPS to someone as they flee for cover behind a corner
