A Section To Report Hackers/Cheaters and Community Policing

Blizzard and OW Team,

With all of the hackers and cheaters in the game and them being reported, I can understand why it would be quite impossible for you guys to address them all. Players report even for the silliest things and, many times, out of spite.

You guys need the help from the Community of Players to help aid in policing the game.

Reporting in-game does one thing, but it’s just being way too abused. Overwatch needs the Community of Players and those that are willing to help aid in creating a better environment.

Can you guys start with creating a section on the Public forums where Players can submit the game code that they suspect a hacker/cheater is in? The Player that submits the game should also have reviewed the game themselves and put down notes in the submission.

This would allow the Community of Players (those that are willing) to watch the replay as well and put in their own thoughts on the matter via the thread of replies.

If there are enough engagements to the post, the suspected hacker/cheater is obvious to the Community of Players that are banding together to police the game for you, in order to make it a better environment, THEN the Dev Team (or whomever) can watch the replay code and you guys at the Top/higher up can do with what you want with that Player.

This would save the upper management of Overwatch A LOT OF TIME and help filter out reports.

This would also discourage hackers/cheaters to not engage in that sort of behavior in Competitive play or else, they’ll get scrutinized by the Community PUBLICLY and will be known to be a Player that hacks/cheats.

I posted earlier, but it got flagged so I’ll redo a better and more kind post with this one.

Is this Player hacking or not? or is it just me? I really need your help in finding out.

Game code: CBBK2X
Suspect: Bastion/Reaper Blue Team 1
Rank: Platinum
Competitive Mode: Open Queue

1st round, this Player is bastion and you can CLEARLY SEE HOW UNBELIEVABLY TERRIBLE his aim as bastion is when unmounted. Like…it’s obvious that his aim is just NOT good.

After losing the first point, he switches to Reaper. It is around here at the 4:00 minute mark that I get hit with a HUGE 1,000 latency spike and for the rest of the game my latency ranged between 78-92; it’s usually 28-32 and my teammate, as mercy, also said her game was being very laggy.

All of a sudden, as Reaper, his aim is 100% accurate on the body–looked like an OBVIOUS aimbot/body lock to me. I watched this replay 4x and counted only 3 missed shots around the 5:10 mark. The 3 missed shots were in the room where we all were while my zen had his transcendence on–I don’t think these shots should even be counted, but I will it to give this Player as the benefit of the doubt.

Auto-Body Lock is more obvious when this Player fights against Hog Rider. I’ve seen GM Players play reaper and as good as their aim is, it DOES NOT LOOK like this.

I normally NEVER report hackers/cheaters (when I really should) because I welcome the challenge, but this mentality was during my bronze-gold rank. I am on my way to hitting Platinum and am seeing a lot more of this cheating behavior as the games go up. It only makes sense that there would be more hackers in higher ranks than in lower ranks.

Overwatch team needs the help in making this game a better environment and we, as the Community of Players, need to band together and help police these situations.

On a personal note, this is VERY important for me as I am seriously trying to climb.

Community…I need your help. Was this truly a display of higher ranked Skill and Aim and I just suck THAT bad? OR, was it a hacker?

so, what say you?

Not a cheater, he has high sensitivity and is not very comfortable aiming but is in no way locking to any targets.

Good aimers typically play on low sensitivity and you can feel their confidence through minimal unnecessary mouse movements and straight(er) lines while flicking. This guys aim is kinda all over the place, but reaper also isn’t hard to aim with. His spread is very forgiving, especially against tanks and at close range. I noticed a few times you opt to close range him as Hanzo, this is always a bad idea, even if you’re super confident in your aim. Hanzo is very effective at close/mid and has some falloff in accuracy at long range. Reaper is ONLY effective at close range. Stay away from him.

Also, avoid namedropping on the forums as you can be actioned for it
“Bastion/Reaper Blue Team” would be fine

ahhhh I see. That may be the reason for the flag. I’ll edit that.

I do get overconfident many times against every Player that plays up close. I surprise them so long as I have my storm arrow–I play in a way where if i’m at a disadvantage, i’ll take on and execute a more risky play. Anyway,

thanks for the input. I just couldn’t understand how terrible he was with his aim and then all of a sudden not miss a SINGLE shot as reaper (other than the 3), which, by the way, is still pretty sketch for a Platinum Player no?

It’s easier to get away with a hack when you’re using heroes that utilize splash/spread damage (junkrat, reaper, monkey, brig, etc.). It’s even MORE easy to get away with hacking if your aimbot is on body lock as opposed to head lock.

Tbh, I’m still not convinced with your assessment that this player isn’t hacking.

If this player is not, then damn…I’ve got a long road ahead of me in gitting gudder and mad props to that Player for his aim being as godly as it was. GG to him and I’m sorry to my team for failing them.

Edit: I edited out the gamehandle name

I’ve put a lot of hours into aim training and specifically Overwatch as an fps playing 95% hitscan DPS. Without tooting my own horn, if I had played vs this Reaper he would be dead on cd without a second thought through having superior mechanics and positioning, and I’m far from the best player.

I would definitely start taking a look at your own gameplay in replays. I’d say the number one reason people struggle to rank up is that they die too often. I see you’re a Hanzo main (one trick?), not a bad hero to climb with and pretty decent all round, though you do put yourself at a disadvantage by not playing hitscan to counter potential Pharah/Echo picks. Reaper is a pretty easy mark for Hanzo too as long as you range check him like I mentioned in my first post, but Cassidy is a real hard counter to him as he range checks him and can very easily force Reaper to use his wraith form (just by existing) and then flash/rightclick him for an easy kill.

Check your stats on Hanzo, if your deaths are higher than 5 per 10 minutes, you can definitely fix some mistakes. Being too aggressive or playing too out in the open are very big mistakes that are very easy to fix once you realise you’re making them

I will take a look at this game a bit later and let you know what I think

Send stuff to hacks@blizzard.com

It would be good if in OW2 you could review games where a player has been reported by a few people in the match, then if a certain number of people review all agree it was a genuine report, the account is flagged and you get OW coins as a reward.

On a side note I think people will hopefully be a little more wary about breaking the T&Cs in OW2. Accounts are going to be a lot more valuable a year in when you’ll need to pay $$$ to unlock all the heroes to play comp again.

I played against you a few weeks ago on Anubis cuz my open que sr is gold/plat or something. Will you add me as a friend on battle.net and we can play? grash0per#1477

gazes into the crystal ball; dark clouds start to form and an image of pain and destruction is what everyone would have if the community “policed” itself. self governing never works, just ask that city within a city in that one city.

bad. idea.

I’m dumb. Please enlighten me

in the interest of saving everyone time, ill give the short version…it did not work well at all

First off, very few people can tell what hacks look like anymore, they’re also really airheaded about hacks saying stuff life:

“if he was hacking he wouldn’t be in PLAT.”

What a stupid thing to say, as if installing hacks instantly teleports you to GrandMaster. People who are bad will download cheats in all kinds of tiers and slowly work their way out of it.

Also, hacks don’t hit 100% of shots, if you think this then you’re probably over the age of 40. Typically the hacks used now work just like aim assist on xbox and playstation, they help keep your crosshair on the enemy but they don’t force it, it improves your accuracy but you can spot if you know what to look for.

Having said all of that, yes, I believe that reaper is toggling a hack off and on. It’s some kind of really cheap, low budget hack. I can see at certain times he toggles it on and his crosshair movement changes, it starts bobbling around inside the hitbox of the enemy. It’s not a red flag that someone hits most of their shots with reaper, that’s easy, it’s how the crosshair looks.

So yeah, that player is awful, really one of the worst I’ve seen in a long time, and yes I believe he has some sort of really cheaply made hack.

as long as the players are never in charge of action and only act as a sort of triage for the ban system, then i wouldn’t really mind

but most people are too block headed to even tell the difference between packet loss, low fps, and rage hacks so i would expect a very high false positive rate :stuck_out_tongue:

Agreed, and is why I generally ask other players for a second or third opinion, I just don’t ask here on the forums, I do it in discord so the person in question isn’t publicly shamed.
