A History of Sym 3.0 beam changes with some Truth

Since the rework to 3.0, Symmetra has had multiple beam changes.

The most significant of these involve:

  1. increasing her damage ramp-up by 20% twice
  2. increasing her beam range from 10m to 12m
  3. The beam bug-fix

You want the actual truth of the new nerfs?

It’s because with the bug-fix, Sym and Zarya’s beams couldn’t be AD-spammed out of with the same regularity as you could with other aim weapons. It was obviously noticeable when dueling either of them, especially in kill-cams when you could see teammates getting melted consistently, whereas before, that didn’t happen so much.

Blizzard clearly has set damage-value maximums that they want each hero to be able to reach, and Sym and Zarya overstepped, so they had to be nerfed back down. (Of course, I’m not sure why they nerfed their shield-break strength too, but whatever)

(Also on another side note, throughout all the past and present changes I keep seeing the same arguments.

  1. You don’t know how to use Sym, you just need to get good.
  2. She’s fine; low-skill heroes don’t need buffs; they should stay trash
  3. She’s DEFINITELY powerful because of high win-rate.

JUST STOP. BLIZZARD VOTED YOU WRONG 3 TIMES IN A ROW. Symmetra was clearly underpowered which is why she had to be buffed 3 times in a row. Now, she might have reached actually usability, but I strongly suspect that like Torbjorn after his alt-fire nerf, she’ll slip back to obscurity.

Number 1 rule of Overwatch. NO ONE USES WEAK HEROES. STRONG HEROES WILL BE USED EVEN IF PEOPLE DON’T LIKE THEM. )
