Torb’s primary fire is similar to a rifle with bullet drop. His secondary fire is a shotgun.
Hammond’s primary fire is an LMG regardless if it does little damage.
Turrets of various styles (military or sci-fi) have been seen in FPS shooters before Overwatch.
And I already explained Hammond’s abilities being more like fighting game abilities than a Moba.
So you were telling me because of arguably three heroes from 32 Heroes that Overwatch is not an FPS shooter and more like a MOBA?
Even saying it is a 50/50 fps/moba hybrid makes no sense at all based on how very little moba elements Overwatch really has.
duh? who design characters with electric mace, chainsaw, and kung fu style with a fps shooter game style in mind? lol a fps is first, person, shooter, everything have to be shooting. well ofcourse there are niche melee playstyle that never will be mainstream like cod riot shield or csgo knife trick stab. but 99.99% of their game is shoot with a gun lol.
that’s because overwatch took a bad turn by listening to the pros too much imo im fine having another 10 more character with design similar to rein. but those aim focus player cant tolerate that idea and the current overwatch is wat we get lol.
OW is 85% an fps, 10% a fighting game, and 5% a moba. (Give or take a few numbers)
(I can explain these figures further if you want)
That is why it’s utterly ridiculous when people in the forums constantly whine and complain with their opinions and suggestions to turn OW more into a moba and less FPS when that is not what the game is.
the concept sheet doesnt say so lol. and putting in some characters with guns (76) is good to attract players from that genre and ease them in. but look at winston. he is a monstrosity if he appears anywhere else in another fps game lolol.
that’s exactly what the game should be. trying to make it really competitive was a huge mistake imo. if not, why are the devs focus on a pve ow2 and not actually maybe add more heroes more frequently and balance the game like all those other moba out there? lol
never play halo before, but i assume you dont race to win right? lol
That is like me going into the Halo forums and stating that Halo is a racing game just because it features vehicles.
And then trying to suggest tweaks and game changes to make it more like a racing game.
Totally ridiculous.
I already explained Winston. He is one of a very few Heroes that resemble moba heroes.
Games of every genre have multiple balance patches. Having frequent balance patches is not exclusive to mobas lol. Wut.
if you race to win sure, but in that game you shoot to win.
in overwatch you played with different hero with different abilities to win, most of the time, maybe 3-4 person in the team will be shooting only. others dont. or you saying if all 6 person shoot and they have higher chance to win? lol
then tell me why overwatch dev dont remove him? since he and rein breaks fps game so much and the compatible rate of them being in a “fps” game is so bad?
just remove them right? and remove all other non fps oriented heroes too, then easy balance lol
that’s because most of them alrd have large roster? lol? and look at what echo do now? one character came out and it break alot of tiny tiny balance dev tried so hard to maintain for a long time lol
it is funny that how your subconscious is ok with having some heroes that is totally unrelated to fps genre to stay in overwatch and yet you expect it to function mostly like most fps do and call it a “fps” lol.
I know OW is unique. I know it’s not your traditional fps shooter.
I know it has elements of various different genres.
My point is that it makes no sense when you have the forums filled with moba players wanting to turn the game more into a MOBA with their constant whining, complaining, opinions and game changes and tweak suggestions , that are all biased and all have to do with making Overwatch less of an FPS.
When that is what OW mainly is. A team fps shooter. Again, “mainly”, not totally.
That is my only issue. Play the game, enjoy the game, but don’t try to change it into what you think it should be because you come from a moba , non fps background, and came to Overwatch being your first fps because of the cute characters.
again, overwatch is not “fps”, at the very least not a typical “fps” you should make comparison with other fps game lol
not even mainly tbh. the heroes i stated is not “little” and the concept sheet they had. those were definitely not “little”
funny enough, besides moba, i do play other shooter games too. just moba was my main focus. cod, csgo, tf2, these are the competitive shooting game i played, and alot more non competitive oriented shooting games too lol
that’s why i say, trying to define overwatch as a “fps” is really wrong. and it shouldnt even head towards pure “fps” in the first place.
i was enjoying the game. until it get too bland. so i rather go play some real shooter like modern warfare instead. lol overwatch should have stay on the original path and never sway too much.
I already said Overwatch isn’t a pure traditional first person shooter.
What it should stay as is with the percentages I pointed out. “Mostly” FPS, because that’s what Overwatch is , around 80 to 90% first-person team shooter.
And a very small percentage of it being like other genres like fighting games and MOBAs.
So what I’m saying is to keep it in that ratio and not have the very small genres that influenced Overwatch grow in percentage or influence more than they already are.
They should be kept to a minimum not increase.
Because when you give moba more influence than it already has, the game turns to garbage like the goat’s era. Blizzard was smart to do what they could to remove that nonsense because they noticed it was destroying the game.
The moba influence should be kept to a very minimum for the sake of the game.
that’s not what the dev had in mind. and creating alot more heroes that have guns and just shoot is also not what they will do. probably. maybe not when they decide to ditch their core concept.
imo it should go straight into that area. but activision is controlling blizzard to create e sport scene, which mots of us dont care. and we get into this mess.
now lets do a simple math.
when overwatch released, there are 21 heroes
tracer (smg)
reaper (shotgun)
widowmaker (sniper)
pharah (rocket launcher)
reinhardt (hammer?)***
mercy (staff?)***
torbjorn (level 3 turret???)***
hanzo (bow)
winston (tesla cannon)***
zenyatta (projectile balls)
bastion (lmg)
symmetra (lockon beam)***
zarya (melee beam) ***
mcree (handgun)
soldier 76 (assault rifle)
lucio (maybe handgun?) **
roadhog (shotgun)
junkrat (grenade launcher)
dva (shotgun?)**
mei (flame thrower)***
genji (projectile)
out of 21 heroes, heroes that dont have typical fps design that shoot to win or their shooting is weird, there are roughly 9/21.
and now, after release, all those new hero release
6/10 heroes dont have typical fps design or they have weird playstyle that dont shoot to kill most of the time. so that’s 15 out of 31.
so, in a fps shooter, where everyone pick up their gun and shoot enemies to death(not a single person has any excuse not to do that), why are there so many funny heroes and role in overwatch?
you cant remove moba element from the game, as overwatch’s core concept was design around that in mind. to create more charcters that are purely more shooter oriented actually make the game play experience worse imo.
yes, most heroes have some sort of guns in some form. but those are not what they are most of the time. and, in most fps, with good or bad gun, you still have the chance to win if either side is not too horrible. but in overwatch, there are certain heroes that will never win for sure if both side are not too horrible.
With every one of your posts I can tell more and more you haven’t played many first-person shooter games.
Projectile based weapons, bows, beams, laser beams ,electricity beams, turrets (military or future style), basically any type of weapon that can shoot any type of bullet, projectile, laser, or anything has been in previous FPS shooters before.
Especially sci-fi first-person shooters like unreal tournament, quake, tribes, Planetside, Doom, Halo, and a bunch of others.
It’s not just real-world military hitscan bullet guns.
First person shooter games have all types of guns from space futuristic guns sci-fi guns fantasy guns everything you see in Overwatch, has been in previous shooters before.
That’s why again I said that only Mercy, Moira, and Winston are probably the only heroes that do not fit into any type of first-person shooter game or fighting game.
And Winston’s gun is similar to various electricity guns that have been in other first-person shooter games.
And it doesn’t matter what the concept art was. What it matters is what ultimately Overwatch was released as.
Because a lot of the concept art was from the game Titan which was not even a first-person shooter game. And that was before the whole game was ditched and it went into a totally different direction.
Even if it is concept art from Overwatch it has little to do with anything. Concept art is just concept art , things that may never make it to the game. You can’t base your whole opinion on a game on drawings lol.
And concept art doesn’t show you a hero’s abilities if it’s going to be a gun-based hero or not. That’s just ridiculous.
this is not consider as “shooting”, yes it do consume ammo in a sense, but you dont see this in realistic shooter. and they perform more like a longer range melee weapon instead of “shooting”.
yes, but it have “shoot” name me a gun in csgo that dont “shoot”. name me a gun in cod that dont “shoot” they are fps right?
oh, btw, dont discount the heroes i starred. like lucio and orisa, and dva, since their gun are much weaker form of what it is suppose to be.
yea, and look at this sorry bland state it is in now. but hey, as a flex player, im actually hype about echo.
those are not drawings lol there is a reason why it is called “concept” art. because most things afterwards a build around that. and why will overwatch compete in a alrd saturated “fps” when they themselves are weaker in that area to begin with? lol
overwatch’s world and concept are always being design around diversity. and not “pick up your gun and shoot your enemy to dead” lol
What are you talking about? When I say Overwatch is more like a first person shooter than a moba, I’m not saying it is like a typical military realistic shooter.
You obviously don’t have too much experience with first-person shooters because first person shooters are not just military-based shooters.
Take a look at this video that shows you the different types of guns on the Unreal Tournament series and tell me that Overwatch wasn’t influenced by most of these.
And again unreal tournament is a sci-fi based first person shooter. And a lot of the guns are projectile based or beam based.
It doesn’t always have to be a real world war simulator.
PS. Don’t just look at the first gun displayed look at all of them.
Please watch that video if you want to continue having this conversation because it shows you one example of many games I can post to backup my statements.
Well, only because you define all these “words” like that doesn’t make it true.
I’ve lived through the beginning and apearance of all those game type names and none of them has ever got a well defined meaning.
Just by the words in the abreviations OW is an FPS as well as a Hero “game”.
i didnt say it should be purely moba either? what are you talking about lol i know what a moba is, dota, LoL, hon, smite, hots, etc
it means shooting something in first person view.
lol unreal tournament, i miss the game haha, but hvnt been playing it for too many years so not sure what gun it has. but, only one laser beam gun doesnt act like typical “shooting” gun. have you ever wonder why dont more that type of gun is in the game? and, all players, pick up guns, kill each other. but most of the gun are lethal and equivalently strong in some form.
in overwatch, there are ppl that heal, there are ppl that cant deal alot of meaningful damage but are well verse in other aspect. so tell me, in a game of 6v6 in overwatch, 2 tank 2 healer, which their gun are not really that lethal most of the time, and compare it with unreal tournament, dont you think overwatch much more similar to fps moba?
why dont give orisa a real lmg? why dont just give rein a minigun? why dont just give winston a gun that shoot out tesla pellet like this? why dont make mercy dual wield her pistol? why dont nerf all df combo and buff his guns similar to that of a shotgun? why dont just nerf ball abilities, and give him a better lmg? why dont give dva a proper shotgun that kill enemy in 2 shots? there is too many why lol
