A Harrowing Thought About New Character Releases: Endless Queue Times

Back in the glory days, a new character release was a time for people to mark the spot on their monitor where a new character was placed on the hero selection screen, in preparation for the ensuing fight to the death to instalock him or her at the start of a game.

If the gods were merciful, No Limits would be available, and this would somewhat ease the pain. But setting aside No Limits, let’s return to the fate that awaits us now.

Role Queue

Before, all 6 players would have an equal shot at instalocking the new character, but now only 2 people will have that honor.
This is good in that it means you have fewer people to compete against, and technically have a better chance of getting to try the new character when they come out.

But it also means that, even more so than usual, most of the playerbase will be queuing up for one role. And very few people will flock to the other roles during this time.

How long will we have to wait to queue up for a 50-50 chance to use Sigma?
What will you do when you finally get a game, only to have the other tank player beat you to the punch?

And most importantly… What is that melody?

Except that normal QP with no role limit will still exist as well (so I heard, could be wrong though)

True, although we don’t know whether it will be a permanent mode like Mystery Heroes (which it should be), or a rarely seen mode (like Total Mayhem).

Usually they do a nice no-limits for everyone to give him a small run around.

At least there will be less leavers as there will only be one player in the match who leaves if they don’t get the character (because everyone else knows in queue that they are not playing to pick the character).

Fair point, I guess that counts for something.

Say he is a tank.

Pretty sure support and especially dps mains won’t want to play him more then a few times. First couple days will be a thing, but nothing beyond that

They typically put a no limits mode in when they launch new heroes. I can’t imagine they wouldn’t do this for Sigma

That is why there should have been hero queue even if still divided by classes. just let the others queue forever for the new hero if they have the nerves to wait.

You want to queue by hero rather than role? That’s an… interesting choice. I mean, role-queue already tacitly encourages one-tricking, but if you want to cut out the middle-man…

Just wait a couple of weeks, the hype will have died down and there is a more likely chance that you could try him.

I mean give it a week. Who plays Baptiste or Brig now?

we all know everyone just queues to play their main. may as well just give everyone what they want instead of having them throwing when someone picks their main.

They may have a week of Sigma nolimits, but yeah youre probably right.
