It’s painful to see what Overwatch 2 has become. What was once a, let’s say hopeful sequel born out of the ashes of abject failure is now, itself, teetering on the edge:
Cheating is rampant
Cheating is in nearly every game at this point. Wallhacks, aimbots—you name it, harder to spot than in the past, but if you can be bothered to look it’s there. And yet, even more than before Blizzard seems either unwilling or unable to tackle the problem effectively. Reporting feels pointless, and cheaters roam free. How can anyone take ranked play seriously anymore? Justification to lock ordinary people in quick play with these cheats? I don’t see it - it’s plain abuse.
Broken matchmaking
Matchmaking is in utter shambles. Whether you’re in Quick Play or Competitive, matches are a dire mess: unbalanced teams, wild rank disparities, and STILL stomps on both ends. Wait long enough and get paid in a very small number of consecutive easy wins. Otherwise log out and pretend you abandoned the game and came back, you’ll get more wins than you deserve, for a little while at least. Not what you’d call fair eh?
Players leaving in droves
The player base is shrinking fast, and it’s obvious. Instead of increasing queue times for the lack of players, game quality is sacrificed to hide it and keep the queue times down - apparently that’s “less visible” (not to me, or many others I’m sure.) Friends who once played daily have moved on long ago, frustrated with Blizzard’s neglect and lack of meaningful fixes - the rest are left picking through the meager reasons not to ditch the game, at this point “because we loved the Overwatch characters” - what even is that now? The next Kiri and Mercy skins? Ironic these are the two skins you’re least likely to see in a PoG for it to make the least bit of difference to you. It just makes no sense.
Rising competition
To make matters worse, other games are stepping up. Titles offering polished experiences, better updates, and more respect for their communities. You know the one(s? ). Overwatch 2 is being left in the dust, “Blizzard” or what’s left of it, what was their solution? Make a 14th season out of a Rein skin and allegedly Overwatch 2 “Classic” (ie: OW1 at whatever insane build they feel like?)
All of which at this point cements it for me: OW2, was is and always has been, OW1 served with a side of Epic Fail. Even now they can’t even bring back 6v6 properly. What a sad, sorry mess!!
It’s clear: Overwatch 2 is in a disastrous state of disrepair. Players are tired of the terrible balance, disastrous matchmaking, out of control cheats, and the broken and out of place feel of many heroes. We deserve better. We want Overwatch to succeed. But unless Blizzard takes real, tangible action soon, the game’s future looks grim.
Just lost four consecutive comp matches. The first two were complete stomps.
In the first match, there was no counter swapping that would stop their Doomfist and Tracer combo, who had over fifty combined elims, more than our entire team.
I don’t remember the third match, but the fourth had a Reaper on my team who just quit. He ulted in spawn, and stood still to feed the enemy.
According to the forums, I know all these losses are my fault. I fell an entire rank in less than an hour. I guess I am worse than I was a few days ago.
the devs teams inability to balance their own game after 8yrs is what has always killed the game.
its what happened during brig release, they shouldve just taken her out and worked on her internally.
when they dropped role que and sigma at the same time, they shouldve taken sigma out and worked on him internally.
they shouldve never released ball, after saying their dev team was literally “having world war 3 on wether or not he should be in the game”
they said they were implementing role que to “make the game easier to balance” and it did nothing. theyre still just as bad at balancing as they were pre role que
characters left in unviable states for literal years causes those mains to move on.
ow has always killed itself. it was just a matter of having no competition in the respawn hero shooter genre that allowed any semblance of a community to form. the more i play marvel rivals the more i enjoy it and the more i cant stand overwatchs inability to handle problematic balancing.
its counterwatch because the devs cant balance their own game. hard counters used to be scrutinized and were said to be unacceptable in a game. but here we are, theyve failed at handling hard counters for so long that the ow die hards have shifted to saying its “skillful” to counterswap 24/7. jesus christ
A game like this will never be balanced.
Not even Marvel Rivals will be ever balanced.
I can tolerate some balance flaws, but balancing the game according the skins that are being sold is another story.
I honestly wonder what a balanced ow would look like. considering the wide range of skill floors an ceillings and the difference in play from bronze to t500
I am eager to see this balanced state, And not a single soul should be against that proposed balance.
good luck with that.
either bronze is op, or t500 is op. Do you really think we can make heroes that are fair across all ranks and skill levels and level of effectiveness without littleraly turning the game in a idle afk farmer?
That was to put you off. Release 1 Overwatch was urm… bad by comparison. Not bad by comparison to everything else around at the time, but bad in terms of its prime. This is actually fairly good in its current state. Somebody at Blizzard seems to want 6v6 to fail though.
Game is dying and at a rapid pace because major problems like these are being ignored and slid under a rug. All the hero/role/map/team composition balance changes mean nothing if matchmaking is left the way it is now and only cheaters are left playing the game.
You can only fool and disrespect your playerbase for so long before they leave for better games where developers actually listen to their playerbase and care about the quality of their game not just maximizing profits at all costs.
It’s incredible that the moment they ran out of material (ie: this season they trot out 6v6 because they had nothing else) that they get hit with the release of Marvel Rivals… it’s like they really p**** off the people who make Marvel Rivals or something… (Oh hang on… they did.)
i usually not fully agree with your takes but this post is 101% correct. as i say, no one can just fail for 8 years, its not failure, its direction. not aligned with the community but this is their vision for the game. this is what they want.
