đź‘Ľ A compromise for mercy players [Lets get dev feedback!]

:angel: Mercy is a talk on a lot of peoples list on whether she is balanced, overpowered, or under powered.

Personally, i think she is in some limbo between limbo and under powered due to her lack of ult utility and how bland she is to play as other supports. Lets put it in line with other supports ults and ability’s that are in the game shall we?

Ana

  • Anti-Nade is helpful against enemies and on your teammates.
  • Nano boost is super impactful if used correctly at the right time and feels very rewarding if your teammate gets kills from it.
  • She is a sniper and can help teammates and kill enemies by being far away.
  • Sleep dart can delete ults and flankers, very rewarding.

Baptiste

  • Immortality field can stop big damage or ults from existing.
  • Heals are great
  • Damage is pretty good
  • His ult doubles all damage and healing put through it, basically making pushing through chokes harder for the enemy team.

Brigitte

  • Shield bash against flankers
  • Use to have insane damage and is still good at helping team fights and being rather engaging.
  • Her ult is good and helps the team with the shield
  • Armor packs are eh-
  • Whip shot is good to keep off flankers or kill someone who is trying to escape

Lucio

  • SPEED
  • Everyone likes speed
  • Pretty good heals if your team is with you
  • Ult can stop ults or save your team from ults

Moira

  • Heals, Damage, Damage ball, range on her basic fire, coalescence.
  • Yeah you see what I mean.

Zenyatta

  • Damage orb helps team and you get off cheeky damage
  • Ult is fun to save team from usually ults that would kill them
  • Fun to [Edited by Blizzard] Mccree
  • Good damage potential

Mercy

  • Heals are pretty bland compared that other supports can heal and damage at the same time
  • Damage boost is good but isn’t as strong as nano (for obvious reasons)
  • Guardian angel used to get around map (or super jump if you play her often)
  • Ult grants flight and chain healing

Now the problem most people have with Mercy is compared to other supports she is kinda “do this one thing the entire game” rather than it possibly being spiced up since she lacks the utility the other supports have. Most Mercy go something along the lines of "Heal this person, heal this person, oh no they died lets try to rez, oh no i died luckily i have my ult so i can fly and do slightly better due to 60 hps (her old base healing), chain healing (which only works if your team is grouped up), or dealing damage (which risk you or your teaming dying in the process).
Now we see how this can be a bit painful and boring on most players part compared to the competition. So what ways can Mercy be more impactful and give the player a rewarding “wow” moment while playing her?

Should Mercy be reverted?

A lot of people tend to find this topic a troll topic or a loss cause due to how long we have had Mercy 2.0. I do find it frustrating however that people usually snap on Mercy players by asking for mass rez back usually without listening to what they have to say or the fixes they want. So here is a proposal on how to bring back mass rez, keep valk, and possibly make Mercy fun and overall more balanced.

Mercy’s Ultimate: Resurrect

Mercy’s New Ultimate would be her past one being resurrect however it will have many changes to help her overall character and remove the “hide and rez” and “lack of skill” most players tend to categorize the ability as when the topic is brought up.

  • Now has a cast time of 1.5 seconds
  • Mercy can no longer resurrect through walls, barriers, or ice walls
  • Mercy is no longer invulnerable during the duration of her resurrect
  • Ultimate sound que is started the moment Mercy begins resurrect

Notes: Mercy’s old resurrect was seen has too powerful due to the fact she can hide and resurrect or wait and resurrect as her team proceeded to die. By making her ult not able to travel through walls and now have a cast time it should make it easier for the enemy team to stop the ultimate before it is finished.

Mercy’s E ability: Valkyrie

Mercy’s new E ability would be Valkyrie which would allow Mercy to fly like she would normally do as if Valkyrie was an Ultimate, However there are some limits.

  • Mercy movement speed is only 6.25 m/s
  • Valkyrie only last 4.25 seconds
  • The ability can be interrupted stuns, etc.

Notes: Making Valkyrie an ability gives Mercy more utility options and ways to increase her changes to escape or engage in a tight situation.

And that’s for what i see in a possible Mercy revert/rework! However i personally want to hear your feedback on what you might possibly want to see in a Mercy rework. Do you like Rez, or Valk or want both? Do you want another random ability you see fit for Mercy? Compile you ideas below i love to hear feedback on a topic like Mercy’s. Much love, and maybe we can get dev feedback on her situation so that we could get her a buff or two!

Mercy is getting lots of play time in contenders and pro scene already. Her issue is she’s not great in brawly comps.

Imo she is the strongest support rn. She can heal constantly through barriers which no other healer can unless with a cooldown… She has Rez.
She also is insanely hard to kill and the healing she pumps out is consistent with no downtime…while other healers that are flanked/dove ECT have to address their aggressor which decreases healing

Mei reaper being meta tho are awful situations for mercy… She can’t do anything really to enable them.

Not when it’s an unhealthy mechanic that’s guaranteed to not come back.

Ala “Mercy Rework and the Tweaks” [Mercy Main who will go un-named] and her entourage helped the devs make it very clear.

The horse has been beaten to death so many times you really need to stop “Rezzing” it.

Mass rez was a unhealthy mechanic because no one decided they wanted to nerf it and instead of blizz simply nerfing what was wrong with it, they decided to take the hard way. Its surprising how most of the problematic forums popped up after the rework. :confused:

It’s problematic because rezzing multiple people back into the fight, completely resetting teamfights with the press of a button is broken beyond comprehension.

Mass Rez simply can’t be balanced due to how potent it is and how easy it is to execute.

Gotta play a massive game of hide and seek to kill the Mercy before we do anything, FUN!

Oh wait she respawned and reset the fight anyway.

“Kill the Mercy before using or doing anything major” is incomprehensible levels of stupid as a game concept.

Ressurection of multiple people is potent no matter how you nerf it, unless they spawn with only a fraction of their health.

Not only that, but in your rework she literally gets a free ability out of it. A compromise would be taking out Valk, putting Rez in with the nerfs, MAYBE giving her a little more healing like 55HPS and calling it a day.

I think Mercy is fairly balanced. She has strengths and weaknesses. If she was to receive any changes I’d like to see her heals out of Valk increased from 50 > 55. In my experience with the amount of damage going out at the moment I feel while her heals are sustained she isn’t very solid at healing tanks (especially someone like D.Va) and keeping them alive. She definitely doesn’t need nerfs.

I didn’t play in the Mass Rez era so I don’t have a good gauge of how useful/helpful/frustrating/oppressive it was. I would like to experience it someday but I feel like it would’ve been witch-hunted just like Moira a couple months back and Baptiste recently, it seems like every time a Support has a place in the meta they get hated on.

The first thing you should be doing during a team fight is looking for the supports, especially you should try to kill her if she is missing. This should be done way before the fact of your team wasting their ults.

Valk doesnt need to be a free ability im just throwing the option in the air to give extra utility the forum name is literally “A compromise for mercy players”

It shouldnt be a mandatory thing of “You will absolutely not be able to do anything UNLESS Mercy is dead”

I, as a Genji player, know this general guideline and follow it to the end. It’s my job if I want to use Dragonblade.

However, the ultimates I combat PREVENT my ultimate, aka stop it before it gets off anything major, it feels annoying, but that’s fair.

What ISNT fair however is me putting in a ton of mechanical effort to net 3, 4, or 5 kills and have mercy come in, with a SINGLE press of a button, and say “Nope.”

It rips the impressive play from players, which already feels horrible, with a play that required little or no mechanical input to perform, double the bad feeling.

“A compromise” is giving something to get something.

You’re getting your ultimate back with the nerfs it needed, and ALSO getting an ability on top of it.

And no, the nerfs aren’t the sacrifice if she needed them when she had the ultimate in the first place.

You aren’t sacrificing anything, so this is no “compromise”.

An ACTUAL compromise would be stripping her of Ressurect entirely for a new ability that does something new and unique that also frees power budget for buffs in other aspects of her kit, such as 55HPS.

for proceeding to ult with her being absent from the fight. I’ll admit the strat of hiding and rezzing to undo the work you put in is stressful but the fact it could have been prevented is also accountable. Even then i have acknowledged this for the fact this obviously needed to nerfed to account she could just get away with invincibility and not having to cast a ult that powerful.

Isn’t me giving the nerfs to the ults needed a compromise for giving her a new ability that adds to her current boring playstyle? But ok…? Also you are forgetting the fact Mercy also didn’t always get 5 man rezzes, nor did most of the time was the case at all since usually Mercy tempo rezzed ANYWAYS. You are looking as if Mercy was always getting off “insane 5 mans that ruined my kills” its more as if she just got a lucky huge rez because of your lack of her existing.

A hero being ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY to take down before ensuing a teamfight makes the game not “Overwatch” but “Who can kill Mercy first”, which is incredibly stupid as a sheer concept. No one hero should be able to force the hand of a teamfight like she could. Only she could reset a dead fight, which made her inherently unhealthy and broken.

You can’t justify such a stupidly powerful ability with “JuSt KiLl HeR BeFoRe UlT 4HeAd”.

No if her ultimate needed those nerfs in the first place. If you’re ALSO adding a new ability on top of getting your old ultimate back, that’s no compromise.

Insulting someone based off of skill about a hero who has an obvious lack of skill, the irony is hilarious.

You aren’t seeming to grasp the concept of how a hero being absolutely necessary to kill before any teamfight movements can be made is immeasurable amounts of unhealthy for the game.

It’s one thing if you have to check off something that can PREVENT your movement, but something that can reverse the effects after you’ve already made a crazy play? That makes me laugh.

Players shouldn’t have a great amount of skill displayed and be rewarded for said skill only to have it ripped away in 1 skilless button press.

She still guaranteed 2-3 people back into the fight, it being stupidly easy to cast is what made it broken.

Imagine if Death Blossom was guaranteed 3 kills every time, that’s the scale of what we’re dealing with.

Dont they do this with Baptiste immortality which is a ability, also dont get me started on how DPS like reaper, mccree and other flankers can get off crazy ults and people have to scout them out. :confused:

Its not a new ability its a revamped ult, plus its just an idea she doesnt NEED it.

Literally most DPS ults are like this, if you arent watching out you will get wiped out, like how if you arent careful mercy could do the opposite, even then in this concept i even made it nerf so its much harder to “FLY IN” this isnt a “please revert” its a proposal for getting it back.

Fun fact you most likely didnt always get 2-3 it was ually 1-2, it was easy to cast so i nerfed it.
Also if you aren’t careful, yes death blossom can get 3 kills every blossom : )

This is something that could definitely help her without going way too far, for a buff.

Dude, a Doom Striking, Tracer Bombing, Reaper Blossoming or any of the above is much more telegraphed and easy to stop, it’s effectiveness is also not guaranteed.

Mercy’s Ressurect is not even remotely comparable to any of those.

Oh you mean the ability you can destroy as you’re pulling off your movement? Hmm… no.

It’s much harder to dive into the enemy rather than to dive near your teammates and cast an Edo Tensei.

What makes the Damage ultimates not comparable is that they require many more levels of risk to them than Ressurect ever did.

It most likely won’t and Reaper will die before he gets anything since barriers stop him.

Aka. Reaper’s in the middle of the enemy team, Mercy isn’t. He would deserve such kills due to the risk involved.

So you can still Tempo Rez right now if not better than you could before with the cooldown ability.

Aka the same old “Mercy Revert with the Tweaks!” statement that has been said so many times it has caused several forum-goers nothing but ad nauseam.

Where they’re asking for a version of mass rez that doesn’t work though walls and has a long cast time?

I get that you didn’t like the last iteration of mass rez,

but complaining about 2017 rez instead of discussing the version proposed in the op (which has already solved the issues you are complaining about) is just derailing the thread.

I personally find Mercy in her current state to be fun to play, well balanced, and very effective in her role

Given this, I would not want any of the suggested changes applied to this character
