Am I missing something? I guess they will drop a new cinematic this week and that’s being hopeful… do they think it’s enough?
I mean they announced Kiriko like less then a week ago, and when the game goes F2P it will be plastered on every store front it’s already on.
Like they don’t need a large day 1 buy in, they just need player’s overtime. Something that will happen when the animated sorts start circling around, and new content is added.
Or when the PVE is released, and the story mode is a thing.
That and the new junkenstien’s mission being played will be a big jumping on point for the holiday season.
It isn’t a full release to be fair, it’s an early access release.
Wouldn’t make much sense to market a 6 year old game getting a patch.
Although, “early access” implies that only a limited number of people have access to the game prior to the general public; which isn’t the case.
The proper term they should’ve used would be “PvP Launch,” as that’s more genuine about what to expect.
Fortnite got big when it was in early access
I mean they already have, if you haven’t notice we haven’t had an animated short like with the junker queen. Or the upcoming on with Kiriko in a long while.
We were mostly getting basically animated comics for most of the last few heroes.
While we got an full on rock song for JQ, and an backstory animation with full on action scenes.
Eh not really, that is only a trend with the triple AAA games. It basically just means were running the game in a state were it’s making us money, with the understanding that it’s not a 100% finished project yet.
Alot of steam games go into early access, and just sell the game to fund development.
They dropped the ball on marketing way back when they said redefining a sequel.
The messaging got mixed up as it confused new comers on whether this is a sequel or remix patch update.
It looks like the same game.
No sense in throwing more money at the problem until the team can come up with better things to market a our this game.
Then that’s very disingenuous. A misuse of the term, like with “grinding”; using an unrelated term to describe something else.
Redefine is their way of saying “we’ve spent the last 3 years doing nothing”.
OW2 doesn’t need any crazy amount of extra hype. There’s going to be so many people playing it, though I do expect at least 1 trailer (Kiriko’s?)
You can’t be serious lad.
We just got an origin story, 2 trailer and a short story.
And yet, you have the audacity to come in the forums on sunday asking for marketing. Are you blind or just stupid?
Ya it honestly did, as they were planning on selling a PVE game. While PVE gets a massive update.
Not to help by the fact that they didn’t have the content to back it up at the time, as they more or less needed to announce that they were stopping development of OW1. So they can work on ow2.
Be it that I would like to point out most players don’t actually watch blizzcon, or keep up with that circle.
While the resent hero introductions are getting quite the bit of stir. 1,288,395 views on junker queen reveal at the moment. and double that for the actual animated short.
Cough Cough this isn’t cheap M8 or easy to make. Cough Cough.
If only they put half as much effort and money into the game itself as they do these animated shorts then maybe people would actually want to play it.
The shorts are amazing and would get anyone hyped until they see and play the game and realize that it’s still the same exact game. And they already ruined JQ before the game even launches with nerfs.
if we’re lucky we got two kiriko and soujourn trailer
Overwatch 1 was running TV ads this close to launch
Meanwhile Overwatch 2… had some weird event where they tried to get streamers to play the game by having a skin you could unlock by “donating” on twitch
yeah they really dont need to
Its a free update
Eh keep in mind most of the development time went into PVE, which from the teasers seems to have alot of work put into it. As in multiple ability modifiers in talents like rien/tracer/mei/lucio alone seem to have 5 plus each, that change up how the abilities are used. (Mei’s ice block turning into a snowball that roles, rien’s earth shatter working in a 360, tracer’s blinks doing damage, lucio’s boops doing doomfist style wall impacts)
Mixed in with a kill tree of more passive changes in a similiar way to borderlands does theirs, split up between three different theme’d sets. Adding effects like freeze to fire strike, or changing how much health the barrier has. and or how much damage his hammer does.
combined that equipable consumable items. Like turrets/barriers/healing pods.
And not to mention a multitude of game modes, and loads of new enemy types. Many are very similar to that of left 4 dead.
PVP was always going to be more of a content patch/format change/rework set/a continuation of content.
It’s why OW2 is going into early access, because the actually sequel part is still in development.
I mean she still is played in OWL, she just isn’t the meta. anymore.
I don’t have high hope for Pve. I think it will just be fighting bots on different maps.
I would be impressed if they can pull off something like borderlands.
I mean we are talking about blizz here the rpg mmo studio, if a their was a studio that would make a fun PVE rpg game it is blizz. That and their pulling inspiration from Left 4 dead in it’s enemy types.
That and they did show off custom maps (or at least sections of maps, they played a bit through rio before trasisitioning), bosses, and more in the one section alone.
Possibly even some single player stuff, as their are moments in the more recent trailers of just one hero doing stuff. with an old clip of zen watching widow doing grapple hook animations.
Just don’t expect open world stuff or drivable vehicle.
