This is getting ridiculous. If you game can’t give a reason for a player to stay 60 seconds longer in a match despite that they are on the loosing team your game is FAULTY in design. Yesterday I watched 8 ragequits happes in a row within 60 seconds, which how much time the match had left. Today I had hardly a single game where we didn’t have at least 2 or 3 ragequitters.
Devs need to address how utterly unplayable leaving makes the game, and since they don’t have the ability to fix the matchmaking, they need to motivate players to stop ragequitting. I propose the following steps:
1, Bring back generic rewards that are not limited to weekly/daily/seasonal challenges or the battlepass. Simply getting XP is not reason enough for some players to stay in a match they don’t enjoy, there needs to be a consolation price.
In Overwatch 1 that was leveling up lootboxes. It would be so easy to implement something like a 1 single random cosmetic for each Battlepass level up even past level 80, or 1-3 coin per finished match, or the cosmetic token crafting system I proposed.
2, Revert all earned XP achievement or challenge progress that you got in the match that you ragequit. People should only get their rewards for a match on match finish.
3, No joining new matches until the one you left is over. I understand that when life calls you are needed to leave a game, it’s a casual game, its not your fault if something comes up, so there shouldn’t be many other harsh penalties, but leaving a game and then instantly trying to join another game is whats unacceptable. If someone leaves a game, they either need to rejoin the one they left, or wait till that match ends (or a minimum of 5 minutes for those losers that ragequit in the last 30 seconds of a game)
There’s your answer. A lot people quit if they join last minute of a losing game. Btw, did any of them quit twice? As in, they got matched in the same game after quitting?
People can’t be blamed if they don’t enjoy the match. That’s on Blizz. Also, some people just don’t care about seasons, rewards and incentives. They are here to play engaging matches against equally skilled opponents. Short of giving them money, they will quit the match if it’s not enjoyable (whatever their definition of that is).
This will only lead to frustrations with people saying: “I did the thing, why didn’t I get the achievement at the end of the match?” It won’t improve leaver frequency.
Why do you want to impose harsh penalties if it is a casual game?
I completely understand that some people who mainly play COMP only play Casual if they just wanna warm up. But not everyone is like that, and a ragequitter potentially ruins the fun of 9 other players. If my team does all they can, even loosing isn’t that shameful, but when I constantly have to fight a 4v5 battle because someone can’t commit to a match that lasts 5 total minutes. People that play COMP shouldn’t get to use casual players as their NPCs and just mess up their game experience by ruining the match by leaving whenever they got bored.
Yeah because even the Match finnish XP isn’t worth it.
Yeah, was at least 2 of the. That happens constantly too. Had a guy rejoin and leave 3 times.
Completly agree
But some do, and currently there isn’t even an option for these players because there is no incentive currently in the game.
agree to disagree. If someone got an achievement, they really can stay that 4 minute a casual game lasts to really earn that. If they quit, then they threw that achievement willingly away.
I don’t? The things are proposed are REWARDS for those that don’t ragequit. The small “rejoin or wait 5 minute” penalty I proposed is a minimal stuff even games like Rainbow Six do.
I think you answered your own question. (Not to be rude )
THE GAME IS NOT PLAYABLE
Period.
IM hardcore to a degree, and even I can see the writing on the wall. That this isn’t a video game. its a chore to play and they somehow want this to be “C O M P E T I T I V E”.
It isn’t.
It is NOT “e sports”.
its not even a video game.
Video games are meant to be fun. Sure, games can have competitive modes where people are literally breaking their keyboards, throwing their computer mouse at the wall, and smashing their monitors for the sake of that QQ super-sparta win. But the modes which offer zero reward for any efforts are what the super-sparta PLAYERS are residing in.
It isn’t healthy for the game.
Even if I was a competitive player, I can look back and see the flaws in this game and that has to do with the first issue.
People are not playing against other people in their own skill range. If that isn’t addressed, than the rest in the house of cards, doesn’t (and will not) stand the test of time.
and that isn’t even addressing the plethora of 1-shot cheese, and somehow blizzard reverting to bad ideas from WoW such as “healers” now are somehow “Supports” that are dynamic DPS raidbosses controlled by players.
Those players on a stomp, are indeed casuals trying to enjoy the game.
What’s even worse, is for those trying to develop and rank up, there is nothing for them to learn from such skill gap.
My favorite are the people who walk out, go afk, comeback to the enemy team having a massive advantage in capture, positioning and ult economy and leave instantly.
Meanwhile me sitting in front of the convenience store with sign saying “will backfill for OW coins”
Bottom line is, people do not like to backfill (not every one tho!). I personally don’t like it because usually when some one quits it is because their team is losing a match. So now I have to work that much harder for a comeback that I had no say in int the first place. It feels miserable to do!
With all that ion mind, I think that the best way to go about is to actually fix the problems that make people quit in the first place. As far as I know those as as follows:
Crappy MM (I don’t see it as much as others, but hey if they feel like the game is doomed then something is wrong with MM - unless they want easy wins but I don’t think that is the case)
Crappy modes (mainly push and flashpoint. To some extend control)
crappy maps (mainly Ilios and nepal)
toxicity in QP… There are people that quit when they get flamed for what they chose to play!
I wish I could get into the mindset of quitters so I could really understand what they think they’re going to get from it. Then again I view lost rounds as part of the experience… I don’t wanna play just for a win. Losses come with that.
to quote a so called gm1 ow1 mercy in my qp game last night… “It seems I got the team with less chromosome, i’m not wasting my time here bye all”.
So in all reality it is ego lol.
I think he’s actually being really deep.
OW isn’t a game, it’s a state of mind
It’s pink shirt in a sea of blue shirts.
It’s a dying lightbulb in the middle of the night.
OW isn’t a game. It’s bacon when there’s no bread left.
