6v6 was bad and unfixable

Oh right, and 5v5 is just the perfect little angel, right?

People aren’t asking for 6v6 because they think it was perfect, they’re asking because it’s objectively better and easier to balance than this asymmetrical format that forces one of the roles to be extremely over-tuned just to exist.

I find it odd, that people will summarize OW1 and make a such a big deal out of its lowest playercount/queue/patch moments, just to justify OW2’s format, which has had worse valleys since, multiple times over.
And again, why isn’t the occasional Arcade mode allowed to try having fun with 12 players max? A lot of the tone against 6v6 enjoyers is that we’re annoying complainers in the face of reality or whatever, so why don’t we all collectively take a step back from the multi-billion dollar company’s rear end, and acknowledge that that format people still play RIGHT NOW with compromises over in the server browser, can just be added for fun before they inevitably realize we were right/wrong anyway. Not everyone who would try that queue is even going to play Comp or QP main-- the conversion rate is getting worse too when you try to force them.
It should be such an easy pitch, “guys just give us one side mode like you host already anyway to play the format we enjoyed for 5 years+ and is still the foundational stat balance of the game” and then 5v5 players get a containment chamber for us that might even also make it easier to call us stupid when Blizz inevitably makes something lamer in their new 6v6 servers. Like that should be it, that should be one little bit of friction and then push to Blizz so everyone involved gets more options and data over time, but I have a sneaking suspicion that that’s not what this argument is really about.
I feel like you’re getting gratification from denying people the option and having one “”“clear”“” format winner, no matter what gets swept up in your dismissive preemptive judgement call comfy in current patch. But eventually Blizz will make a decision you disagree with and you’ll look around and wonder why no one cares. That’s just how it is, we’re little pieces of dust each still making this game money when we’re not getting kicked around, and some of you choose to invest in fighting the others when they’re not complacent. I don’t get it, I really don’t. I have never once had the desire to dance on the grave of 5v5 even if it stopped being the primary format, I don’t relate to yall

can you explain why and how it was unfixable?

and what problems are we talking about?

It was perfectly fixable. But they didn’t because:

  1. They abandoned the game for three years
  2. They didn’t bother to nerf Brig properly for most of that time
  3. They released OW2 tanks in OW1 (e.g. Sigma), combined with Baptiste and Brig causing double shield

Honestly for me I just enjoyed how tactical 6v6 felt, like a slow game of chess where every piece has its place. Now with 5v5 my only goal on all roles is simply KILL THE ENEMY and nothing else. Support don’t even need to heal anymore :joy:

It was not unfixable. They literally had to just gut aoe supports and it would fix so many problems. Aoe healing should be completely incomparable to single target.

We won’t know because they never even attempted to fix it.
Even something as lazy as “other shield tanks are greyed out and unselectable once one is chosen” could have worked.

Sorry to break your bubble my guy, but if you think 6v6 would not have that and MORE changes in this span, you are dosing way way way way too much on that hopium

Theres nothing more than nostalgia here. People use ONE point in OW1’s history to judge the entire game and then look for every corner, every comma, every change done by Devs in 5v5 to condemn the entire format.

FACTS are not changing: Whatever you think about 5v5 right now, it would be worse in 6v6.

Thats all there is :man_shrugging:

PS: Its literally the story of the person engaging again in a toxic relationship with the “I can fix him” mentality when conveniently forgetting all the bad things that happened in the past

I’m pretty sure I’m not the one inhaling hopium here after ignoring the facts I shared and decided to nitpick the one line that is of my own opinion.

Theres no nitpicking my guy, that sentence sums up the wrong conclusion you came to after listing things that would mostly happen anyway (with the exception of passives).

Its like saying red cars are faster because the car that won is painted red. Sure some of the things you said are true, but the conclusion is absolutely wrong, specifically for what I mentioned but hey, ignore every fact and logical statement I listed and pretend I am just nitpicking one random sentence that doesn’t really encapsulate what is wrong with your deduction if that floats your boat.

6v6 was better in it’s highs and fixable in it’s lows. Amen.

If a game has worked in that format for years, then I wouldnt say there was anything wrong with it. Anyway Im sure the reason why its taking Aaron so much to talk about it its because he is writting a list of excuses to not going back.

If a game goes through so many drastic changes in such a short span of time then its either because its broken or the devs are just incompetent. At this point this game is a totally different one with each season. Its basically Paladins 2 already.
