6v6 test, and classic reinforced a thought I have had

Heroes forced into a new format dont play as well, AND removing gimmicks and what made heros unique made the game easier and more straightforward, at the expense of intrigue and skill expression. If you want the game to do better, lean more into gimmicks and the MOBA roots.

I can only agree. It’s shocking to see how everyone seems to have forgotten how to play against the original Sombra. Every match, someone tries to switch to Sombra mid-game, only to swap off a minute later because I’m wiping the floor with them. Well, original Sombra was simply much harder to play.

Then there are the Doomfist players who think it’s a good idea to jump solo onto the objective at the start of the round, only to get hacked and die. Two seconds later, they’re whining in chat—only to get flamed by the rest of the team because it was clearly their own mistake!

It’s ridiculous how much had to be destroyed for 5v5 just to make a system work that doesn’t even function properly.

Can you elaborate on the “heroes being forced into a new format don’t play as well” part? Kiriko, Juno, Ram, Soj are forced into 6v6 modes and are at least as good as they are in 122 RQ, so if you’re saying what I think you’re saying, I disagree. But perhaps I’ve got the wrong end of the stick here.

All OW2 heroes work well in 6v6, if this is what the post is about.

And if you’re talking about OW1 heroes being reworked or forced into 5v5 and struggling, then yes, some are made for 6v6 — not 5v5.

OW1 heroes not adapting well (mostly olf off tanks)

Oh, okay. Well, I think it’s a mixed bag as far as the likes of tanks go.

  • The only people who like Hog in either format are Hog players.
  • Zarya’s persona non grata at the moment, but most of the time she’s been in an okay spot; I think she benefits from 6v6 since she’s a great co-tank and that used to grant her a bit of leeway from people that she doesn’t get now.
  • D.Va has had her ups and downs through both OW1 and 2. I still remember the days of feeD.Va in 2020 222 RQ, until she had her armour buffed in Dec (IIRC) that year. Ugh. She was a horrible co-tank to have at my rank.
  • Sigma quietly gets on with it.

I don’t think it’s a case of old off-tanks not fitting in in particular, just that bad designs continue to be bad. It is pretty embarrassing that it’s 2025 and not only do we still have Hog being Hog, but now there’s also Mauga to sit on the naughty step alongside him.

also bastion and widow barely work in a 1 tank format

Bastion’s kept down on purpose. We’ve had him be meta in OW2 in season… was it six? When they lowered murder mode cooldown to 10s or so? People did not like it, they did not like it at all. They could do something inoffensive like buff standard mode’s gun, but they don’t because… reasons?

I don’t think it’s as much a problem with design as it is a lack of willingness to do something with certain characters. They prefer to nerf them alone before buffing them again later on down the line in a way that does absolutely nothing to mollify the pain points. (Hello, recent Hog buff.)

As for Widow, she’s been awful to go up against since day one of Overwatch 1, when she could one-bodyshot 150 HP heroes like Zen. She replaced Genji in OG dive when players stopped sleeping on her. I have always found her to be obnoxious.

God no.
This is an FPS first, with RPG elements.

Leave the lanes, bots, towers and items to purchase to League.

No thanks.

I agree with the second half, I mostly mean lean into shields, armour, stuns, etc, stuff that was “Ok” 6 years ago

Re-adding stuns is how you lose your tank playerbase (or whatever is left of it) all over again.

we are also talking like it wasnt 2 or 3 that got removed. Add a per target cooldown to freeze similar to current discord. Up bashes cooldown by 1-4 seconds, and decrease flashbangs effect on tanks given that it is th eleast situational stun that isnt a skill shot(dart, charge)

IMO that only applies to 6v6 characters. As is characteristic of 5v5 designs, most OW2 heroes can play very independently. Kiriko can flank and hold her own, Juno’s got endless mobility, Hazard has the block and is quite mobile for a tank, even Ram has a speed boost, block and shield. Whereas… someone like Reinhardt is slow and needs lots of support from his team in order to accomplish something. OW2 has just become a different, faster game.

Or…

Just don’t add stuns back into the game because no one likes them!!! :open_mouth:

I like em, the game has abilities and gimmicks present, let me counter dive with one simple trick

That’s the problem. It’s simple.

They require no real effort.
