6v6 Queue Competitive

I have a few complaints about 6v6, but I will do it in a somewhat constructive way so I don’t just be one of those people who complains about everything.

First, 6V6 Should not have replaced Open Queue and if it did there should have been some sort of reset in rank or something. It’s very frustrating that people who consistently used to play Open queue, even those that are at a higher rank are now forced to play with people who are generally that rank in a 5v5 setting. It is also frustrating to play with people who take the game 100% more seriously than that of an open queue player. Don’t get me wrong open queue players do take it seriously and the community is pretty close nit for the ones that play religiously, but do understand that going from a mode that allows you to play anything you want to now a mode where people who specialize in specific roles and expect you to do the same, just doesn’t mix well. The quality of games suffer because the people are just more quick to harass or flame one another because of specified heroes. Which in my case before the implementation of 6V6 is a very rare thing to do in Open Queue.

If you’re going to do 6v6 allow either a 2-2-2 mode where people can focus on what specific roles they want to play/are good at. It should be a regular role queue mode just like how 5v5 is. I along with many others do think 6v6 is an enjoyable experience but there are definitely some tweaks that are needed. 3 Supports feel fun to me because Im able to play support if I want to and there are 2 others, having 2 tanks is extremely fun although it can be annoying if they play well, and having 1 dps well…we’ll just have 1 dps. The lock on 2 tanks I totally understand because if there wasn’t a lock it would most likely be just a goats meta all day everyday and I can understand that’s not what you probably want, and I agree. As much fun as that is it would suck to see a potential perma game mode that people want to take seriously not involve a role that has been always in the game.

I’m pretty sure this is just a limited-time thing and Im sure there will be a lot of feedback that comes into play with this that you all will consider. I think that information should be looked at closely and the next time it comes around for a test (If it does) then I would like to suggest looking into making a separate mode for it competitively to not hurt the ranks/fun that people have in regular open queue or 5v5 mode. (Yes this goes both ways because just as much as people play open queue religiously some people prefer the same for 5v5.)

I’m not trying to be completely negative here, I do this 6v6 is fun and can be enjoyable, but currently it disrupts the experience of competitive players when they prefer 1 thing over the other. It also just generally doesn’t mix well because 2 types of audiences have been set for competitive play.

Also anyone is welcomed to share their feelings as well about this! It’s a judge free zone and I’d love to hear more thoughts and opinions about it!

Yep. I don’t mind having 3 support 1 dps on my team but only 1 tank on my team (which typically is me) against an enemy with 2 tank is annoying.

Tanks are the most important role in this game, you’re putting yourself at a huge disadvantage when you don’t have equal amount of tank on your team as the enemies.

In games where nobody wants to go tank but me, it almost feels like my team isn’t interesting in winning the game.

To be fair, out of 20+ games of 6v6 I got to play last night, only one of them resulted in nobody on my team (except me) wanting to play tank. So this doesn’t happen that often. But when it does, I do find it annoying.

I’ve actually gone back to 5v5 RQ comp while 5v5 OQ comp is gone. I don’t enjoy the 6v6 version.

I actually don’t enjoy more than 2 supports as it starts to get too annoying for anything to die, something that was mitigated in 5v5 OQ as 3 tanks 2 supports vs 2 tanks 3 supports could go either way thanks to the extra damage and health pool of the extra tank vs the extra utility of the support. Though dps is usually a throw outside of some fringe cases.

For some reason, it feels harder to respond to the 6th player that constantly flanks you in 6v6 as opposed to 5v5. I’m starting to think that pushing 6v5 is not as powerful as 5v4, though the power of Wrecking Ball and Zarya in this mode is much diminished (which is a good thing, they’re WAY too powerful in 5v5 OQ, with Ball getting to play the game for free as Sombra is kind of a throw pick and Zarya having double bubble for anyone while having 1-2 other tanks typically making her ridiculous to deal with).

The fact that 4 supports have the same amount of damage, utility, and healing to keep up tanks that have 500+ hp on average (instead of the 300-500 hp most tanks have in 5v5 OQ) is an issue for me and has really made me not like this mode. And I say this as a support main myself, it’s just too rewarding.

Fully agreed it shouldn’t have replaced open queue!

Isn’t 5v5 OQ unranked still up? Just play that if you’re looking for casual mode. You’re complaining about people taking comp seriously like they haven’t always done that.

I’m not in game but I could’ve sworn they replaced both OQ with 6v6 version (I might be wrong)

Same, I’m away on vacation but I’ll be back tomorrow but I thought they posted that there was a bug with 6v6 unranked and changed it back to 5v5 but kept 6v6 ranked up.

Blizzard devs ‘LETS ERASE THE ONLY MODE THAT PLAYERS HAVE A 3 TANK 2 HEAL FORMATTION AND TOTALLY IGNORES DPS AND LETS FORCE THEM TO PLAY DPS, BECAUSE THATS WHAT PLAYERS WANT, 99% OF OPEN QUEUE PLAYERS AND MATCHES NEVER SEES A DPS , YET WHAT THEY REALLY WANT IS TO PLAY DPS, I KNOW IT.’

You blizzard ppl, u are human, while u dont recognize ur errors, you will never, ever, ever not in this universe nor in any other, do anything right. NEVER. bcuz u just cant accept your mistakes.

I think the 3-2 or 4-1 MOBA-esque vibes is part of what made 5v5 OQ so unique and fun!

It felt super different vs RQ!

Bring it back!

They did for a very short amount of time, but currently, only the Comp version of OQ has been replaced with 6v6 OQ. There was a bug in the QP version where perks were disabled, and the devs elected to take down perkless 6v6 OQ QP until they could fix it. Which I’m guessing is on Tuesday but who knows.

So at time of writing, it’s 5v5 OQ QP and 6v6 OQ Comp.

Here’s the trouble: there really aren’t enough dedicated (as opposed to filling in) tank players to sustain 2-2-2 RQ. But that’s not an issue for OQ modes. Games can start even if there’s only one actual tank player per side, or even no tank players at all.

So it makes sense for RQ to remain 1-2-2, while OQ returns to 6v6.

Oh yeah this is probably a big reason for the poor match quality. The people that are calibrated for 5v5 OQ which often was a 3-0-2 suddenly have to function in 2-2-2 where EVERY role plays differently. The other extreme are people with unknown MMR because they barely played OQ, which are many I assume.

A similar issue are tanks that don’t know/remember how to play together after 1-2-2 for so long. And you can’t even go tank yourself unless you ask them to swap which is rude.

And then Sojourn makes everything horrible.

3 Tank + 2 Support is played so much in OQ because it is simply the strongest comp you can play. I’m not much of an OQ connoisseur,
But the first time I tried it, I played DPS in OQ until near the end of my placements (I finished placements in GM4).
At some point, the comps shifted to a 3+2, and DPS became ridiculously hard to find value on. I played into the meta for the rest of my placements, primarily on tank.

Well yes its still up but its not generally about taking comp seriously, Im more so getting at the fact that Open Queue and Role Queue 5v5 have 2 different types of competitive players, and the ones that play 5v5 role queue are generally a lot harsher because they strive waaay harder than the ones that play Open Queue and that mode is taken ALOT more seriously by majority of its players.

So to combine 2 player bases that have 2 separate let’s say ideals of how to play the game does not mix well, it’s like oil and water.

Also Unranked doesn’t interest me, sure with friends its great but nothing feels rewarding about it.
