- More fun experience for tanks
- No more infinite queues (that still exist with 5v5) (OW1 had queues of less than a minute before the Role Queue era).
- No more superior roles in 1v1 (tanks nerfed)
- No more “gOaTs” for TOP500 dps
- More fun experience for supports (they would have more space to survive thx the second tank)
The truth no one wants to recognize, it is RQ that started the downfall.
People should be able to play RQ if they want, but the game shouldn’t be balanced around it and 6v6 should still be the standard.
Eh not inherently, alot of the what we reffered to main tanks in OW1 kind of left the game. Or jumped into the DPS que.
And a lot of people ended up complaining about being tide to the hip and performance of their tank partner. As to have a functional team you need a very specific tank setup of a few viable duo’s that work well together, or the specific meta duo. otherwise your going to get a janky team that is going to have heavy disadvantage to any team with functional or meta tank duo’s.
And that’s if the both players know “HOW” to play together, if even just one of them didn’t know the specific duo playstyle they would fall apart.
Iv’e never seen theses, be it I’m the US servers and hang around high plat and diamond. if this is a complaint about top 500 then like that’s never going to be fixed.
RQ or its all just a mess. No one cooperates. I don’t want to herd cats I want to queue a game and play. I’ll wait longer for a quality match, too.
My friends and I quit after they introduced role queue. We used to swap roles based on the maps and enemy roster, but after the introduction of role queue, this was no longer viable.
Open Queue with Role Limits would be the same than Role Queue but without needing to wait 10 mins to find a match.
Ok so wdym by “role limits”?
6v6 with open queue with role limits is literally just instant queue times but then when you get into the lobby it’s chaos because you have 5 people wanting to play DPS or support, and whoever instant locks first gets the role. Then you have people who intentionally throw/leave because they didn’t get the role they wanted, or you get people being forced to play a role they don’t want to/aren’t good at and you get a garbage quality game.
Didn’t really think that through did you?
Need I remind all of you, one of the biggest complaints about OW before they introduced RQ was literally the fact that you get a team of 6 people wanting to play DPS. Do you think they just introduced RQ because they felt like it? No, of course they didn’t. They introduced RQ because people were begging for it.
They could give role priority tokens after playing a couple of matches.
One of the problems caused by the Role Queue is that players always play the same role and that increases the monotony.
Already now there are players throwing matches intentionally because they don’t like something about their team.
There was nothing bad with having matches in which there were not all the roles. The grace of OQ was that you could have all types of compositions. In the normal ranks you could win with 6 dps against a team of 2/2/2 and in the highest ranks players were more organized and had the team in mind when they were in the select screen.
OQ offers creative freedom and allows experimentation with compositions:
- 6 DPS bring an advantage by being able to do a lot of distance damage to put pressure on the opposing team, but there is no healing to survive for a long time.
- 6 tanks can resist a lot of time, but they can’t pressure from a large distance and there is no healing.
- 6 supports can recover very fast from damage, they can also be good at distance damage with Zen and Baptiste, but they are very exposed to snipers because of the lack of defensive heroes.
- 2-2-2 / 3-0-3 / 3-1-2 / 2-1-3 / 1-3-2 / 0-3-3 were more balanced but the results depended on how the team performed.
Same
My frds and I didnt like RQ back then, and 122 was plain laughable
IDK about you but those “mess” games only take <5% of my OQ games
It’s not unless you have a duo (and even then it’s not better than 5v5) but I’m rooting for you guys to get it.
Just speaking as a tank main
I hate to break this to you but there’s an extra player on the enemy team chasing them.
Oh you want to sleep the Rein/Winston? - sorry mtarix/bubble, same for nade.
The extra player is not only on the enemy team, you also have a second tank on your team that will defend you when the other tank is away.
That literally fixes nothing.
Only if they queue for the same role?
Yeah they don’t like the hero picks of their team, not the fact there they can’t play another role. If they wanted to play another role, they would have queued for it.
And yet you’re suggesting to have role limits.
How are you going to have a team of 6 dps with role limits?
6 tanks would be the only viable comp lol why are we acting like every game wouldn’t run 6 tanks. Also idk why you’re suggesting teams made up of only one role when your thread literally suggests role limits. If you can have a team of 6 tanks, what is this “role limit”?
It just means that it would be ELO dependent on how Tryhard people are. Which is fine. Especially since the queue times should be fantastic.
I was responding to this part:

I just wanted to say that it wasn’t so bad to have a team of 6 dps.
I prefer the classic Open Queue, but I think the best option to satisfy current Role Queue players would be to mix both formats.
I wish tanks weren’t so freaking powerful in OQ because tank stacking has ruined the mode for me and it was my favorite as a flex player.
I know open queue is not the “main” mode but it’s still an important part of the game and it has been neglected since OW2 released.
But you do realise that in the vast majority of games, running 6 dps would almost never win games. Maybe if you had 6 GM DPS on your team, but for normal people in ranked you wanted to have at least 1 of every role. 2-2-2 was also VERY common even before role queue was introduced because it simply worked and people knew it worked.
That’s literally what the Role Limits fixes.
It did, and lots of us warned what it would lead to, but the community overwhelmingly demanded it because they only wanted to play the heroes they wanted to play, which has been the root of all the game’s problems. I think RQ is the only time the devs really compromised competitive integrity at the community’s request, and the game is worse for it.
I still love the game, but we need to never again cater to people who refuse to engage with the game’s core mechanic (playing multiple heroes and switching throughtout the match).
