the 6v6 server I play on has a first come first serve selection instead of OQ or RL. So if 2 of any role is picked it becomes locked out. I would personally prefer full OQ but I understand it can be challenging to balance goats out that way. The first come system works beautifully and I would welcome it. It’s much better than role lock.
It might also be nice to have a “request role swap” system in game so if one role is not playing great someone can request a role swap with them but if it’s declined it can’t be requested again.
Cap. I was there. As a reminder: Not everyone plays Overwatch for the Ranked experience. 6 dps instalock was very much the reality in QP. Even in Ranked it wasn’t exactly rare to see 1/4/1, 0/5/1, 1/5/0.
The only time they weren’t throw comps is when you were playing into a team with the same comp. This was not always the case, and it wasn’t uncommon for one side to be saddled with a team comprised almost entirely of dps against a 1/4/1 team.
Role Queue was the best thing to happen to Overwatch.
The only way to balance Open Queue is to have role limits. Maximum of 2 tanks, 3 dps, or 3 supports per team at any given time. This allows people to still swap roles, but prevents team comps from being stupid.
I am not Korean, and I vastly prefer role-less queue over the excessive queue times, absence of flex play, unnecessary restrictions, and other severe issues 222/122 have inflicted upon the game
One does not need to be Korean (or any nationality) to prefer role-less queue, and many of us who asked for its return were and are not Korean
this is an opinion stated as if it were fact, when it isnt fact
I consider 222/122 to have been THE worst change ever made to OW, and there is no close second
No it wasn’t. It’s highly overrated and game design choices could’ve been made to iron out the overpowered support and tank combos, like reducing shields/shield CDs/shield regen rates of certain tanks on the same team, and reducing the healing of certain abilities like inspire when brig is paired with a bap or whatever. They could’ve done other things. They didn’t try.
SIX dps get’s a little on the throw side of things, but if that’s happening it’s also your fault for picking dps.
5 dps 1 support is not a throw comp at all, it’s a glass cannon build with just enough sustain to make it work. I won games very often this way as a Lucio shot caller against many 222 teams. Most people just lost those games because they thought they were impossible to win so they’d just throw. When you actually try hard them as a support, you see they’re actually very winnable. It’s just high risk high reward like glass cannons are meant to be.
I guarantee you lose more games because of it. A role lock game where 1 role sucks is always a guaranteed loss. An OQ game of any composition is always far more winnable. Like in the video I linked in my post, right there a well respected top 500 player is telling you comp is not nearly as important as you think it is. What’s important is synergies and that the players can play their chosen hero well.
It’s a throw comp. You can’t point exclusively at players who are skilled enough to make it work and say it wasn’t a throw comp. Nothing is a throw pick or throw comp if the players are skilled enough to make it work.
This wasn’t the case for the entirety of the player base, and this problem was particularly prevalent in the low ranks.
No doy. Almost everything on here is an opinion. Thanks for pointing that out, Captain Obvious. If I want to make a point of making something seem like a fact, I’ll call it a fact.
The personal attack aside, the item I noted as being an opinion stated as if it were fact, was stated as if it were fact, when it wasnt (and isnt) a fact
The statement that was made was calling the stated opinion a fact, when it wasnt a fact
I would argue the large majority actually feel this way too. Not the large majority of current OW players, but the large majority of everyone who used to play overwatch. We saw MASS amounts of people leaving the game post Brig and post role lock. OQ was extremely rewarding for smart players as they could identify win conditions and switch accordingly. But it was also very punishing for low IQ players as they’d think “why nothing die!? need more damage! damage good!” and they’d swap dps and lose cause that wasn’t actually their teams weak link.
But at the same time OQ felt best for most people even if they were dumb because of the variety from match to match. Winning with odd comps was fun. Getting totally chaotic games where both teams had wack comps was fun. Every game felt unique. Coming back from stomps was far more common when the game allowed for so much team building variety. It made the game more along the lines of “if everything is broken, nothing is” which is usually the case for games with high dynamics.
It wasn’t stated as if it were fact. I said it’s the best thing to ever happen to Overwatch. That’s my personal opinion. You might disagree, but I’m not going to preface everything with a warning that it’s opinion.
So true. I played a game with 6 supports against a team running goats back just before rq. We started it off as a troll for first fight, destroyed them. Had … “wait what?!” Moment, and decided then and there win or lose we were going to give it our best on that comp. We won.
Nano speed amped Brig flailing into discorded targets was truly disgusting. With bap and moira for broken heals and immort. I usually hate immort for the fun it kills for tank imo but it made that game possible, and extremely fun.
I also won a full game of koth 5 v 6 in RQ, when my 2nd tank teammate left the game before halfway through first round. We won first and last rounds. Puckered up and sweat our butts off, but it was some of the most fun I’ve ever had in Overwatch.
I know full well how pointless meta and ‘proper comps’ were back then in the mid ranks where 90% of players are. And the absolute chaos was truly the most fun part of overwatch imo.
The real point of role lock was first to stop what we failed at seeing that was :
1 - Goats
2- Open with 4 tanks. I am Top 500 open que Rein and I dont even play it anymore.
Here is a simple reply.
Role lock is critical for 6v6 to succeed. Why ?
1- You don’t want weekend tanks being pushed into roles with no experience.
2- YOu want experienced tanks who know how to handle the situation and push.
3- The same would go to an experienced DPS & heals. We want players who are mains at their specific role.
4- You are never going to push me on Kings row with Zarya and Rein tank, if your Zarya keep pushing in with 50 energy.
5- YOu are never going to have a skilled ana who will instantly negate any zen trance if you have no shield.
All of this will come into crucial skilled play. If you dont think these players exist. YOu are in for a rude surprise when the event drops.
I have over 8 years of experience tanking just Zarya & Rein. If you really want 6v6 to succeed - you will need role lock with que times.
If not you have players playing roles in which they have no experience. I will keep my overwatch profile public & instantly my team will be Rein/Zarya/Genji/Solider/Kiri/Ana.
This comp itself will negate all of the comps with Suzu and nade. Now my zarya just needs to kill the Sigma or Dva and you are now in a grav. If they go Dive we go anti dive. Lets see how easy it for them to actually tanks against vet tanks who will not think for more than 1 second to counter.
Your best and only suggestion if you want to stop play workshop
1- Take the role lock.
2- Let tanks take Role que while you que for flex mode.
And get it out of your head, nobody hates you. We are debating, and discussing.
I dont even need to address this point, as this is the point that lead to 2/2/2. So this debate has no value as their are many holes in it.
6v6 returning without role queue is pointless. I’m one of the biggest advocates for 6v6 returning on this forum, but you couldn’t pay me to sit through a game where the instant norm is five players hogging DPS refusing to adjust, and hounding the one player who wasn’t quick enough to select their preferred role to play a role they didn’t sign up for for the next 10-15 minutes while the team malds and eventually loses.
If after everything, this is the 6v6 we won, it will all be for nothing. Nobody wants to play like this.
same. If they need a tank, i want a dedicated role slot. Or else they can have weekend warriors who are pushed into roles where they dont belong.
What did I say Squirlte ? You need role que if you want real 6v6 or else you getting a turbo charged Open que 2.0 and no main role player is ever going to que for more than 1 weekend.
