6v6 mainpulation rant

Looked at the recent blogpost and realized that my gut feelings about the 6v6 tests were right. what a shame. Notice how they changed the tone from:

“We’re bringing 6v6 tests to try to understand our community and assess if there is a world in which we could realize that it could solve a lot of current problems (not all of them right off the bat) and we could look at if there is a future for it.” to:

“We’re going to test 6v6 as a mode, but 5v5 and it’s problems are not going away by any means.” and with the recent blogpost to:

“Season 14 will have a 6v6 gamemode as a limited time event for players to experience the nostalgia of overwatch 1.”

well thank you for this information, but at this point, we all don’t care anymore. You shoul’dve said right away that those will just be limited time events with no further implications instead of saying this and then later saying something else. You shouldn’t have actually said anything about it and just brought it back as a surprise, like you did with 6v6 classic and then just remove it, although a lot of players enjoyed the gamemode. Long-time fan of iddqd and he was only streaming that gamemode because the current “official” game is kinda garbage.

No, of course you wouldn’t, of course you had to give some of us a glimpse of hope, a crumble, to keep us engaged and to try to manipulate us into thinking that there is no better version of overwatch than the current one. It was all foreseeable. This type of communication is such a fraud.

I probably won’t even log in for the 6v6 event, I couldn’t care less. I’m off to Rivals and POE 2 boys, have a good one. :face_exhaling:

Seems to you combined two separate things and think of them as one thing. This is kind of on you as they have been consistent about things.

There are TWO 6v6 events happening this season. One of them is Moth Mercy where you just experience the classic Moth Mercy meta for 3 weeks. The other is a 6v6 game mode where they try to figure out if they can change the heroes for 6v6 to work, and presumably later tests to see if they can reconcile queue times with the event itself.

Basically they didnt say they were “limited time events with no further implications” because that is not true. The Classic event is because its Classic Overwatch but the actual 6v6 test is about trying to create a situation where 6v6 Overwatch can actually work without massive queue times.

From the blogpost: “This limited-time event allows players to embrace the strategy and teamwork of the 6v6 setup while enjoying the refined mechanics of Overwatch 2. Whether you’re rekindling old memories or discovering this iconic gameplay style for the first time, the 6v6 Role Queue event offers a fresh-yet-familiar way to experience the game. Don’t miss your chance to test your skills and relive the origins of Overwatch with a modern twist from December 17 to January 6!”

It doesn’t matter. It seriously doesn’t. The 6v6 crowd is not going to show up regardless. They know it. I know it. And deep down, you know it too.

You have no idea how me and many of friends I know from up to 5 years ago were actually really hyped about it, the first they opened pandora’s box and made it seem as if there was a chance.

And where did you see the words “no further implications” because I do not see those words. That the first 6v6 test would be limited time was communicated a lot as we were told multiple times over there would be a series of 6v6 tests to try and reconcile the problems that existed in Overwatch 1. If your goal is to accomplish that then the term “no further implications” is obviously meaningless.

It’s a teaser release for the upcoming season, not a Dev post about this specific issue. It’s likely not even written by someone who works on the game mechanics.

And if they can rectify the problems that 6v6 causes there is a chance for it to exist as a game mode alongside 5v5. First they have to reconcile those problems hence the series of tests that are planned to do so. They have been very open about this process for months now.

they’re obiously not talking about it as a test anymore.

Considering they have conducted interviews about it over the past week where they refer to it as a test yes they are still calling it a test. The fact that they also want people to enjoy it and have fun does not take away from that. For THEM it is the first of a series of tests. For US it is the first of series of, hopefully, fun events to enjoy.

You have created a fictional narrative in your head and have decided to get annoyed by it. Nothing has changed from 2 weeks ago when we knew there would be multiple limited time 6v6 tests going out in order to see if the mode could work long term in Overwatch. That is what was communicated and that is still the case and nothing in that blog contradicts that.

OWC was popular enough to increase my queue times so I don’t know about that one my King

Why not go watch the latest Spilo interview with Aaron and the other guy. There is a whole section in there on 6v6 and their goals with it. Might explain some stuff for you.

It’s just another example of why trying to communicate with this community is pointless. (well, with some of them).

I guess get over it and move on then? Nothing has changed with their 6v6 test in any way. They literally stated about a month ago that it would be a 4 week limited time test. That is still what it is. I don’t know if you are confused about the word event? But, it is just your misunderstanding, not anything that they are doing differently.

Nah I agree completely, they didn’t test 6v6 properly because they gave us horribly awful season 1 heroes from 2016, it’s not what we asked for

it was always 6v6 with modern gameplay

but make no mistake they did it on purpose, now they can say “see 6v6 was not good just move on”

Hell yeah. Overwatch Classic performed admirably. I bet THAT’S what will make it as our permanent 6v6 mode.
