5v5 is stable, and working

Living in denial that metas formed almost immediately does’t make them go away.

My guy you just described every OW1 meta, where what basically everything that is and isn’t playable.

in other new OW2 core design hasn’t really changed. Oh no break points are differen’t, it’s not like we had multiple abilities that didn’t do that any way. Yall remember 300 hp tracer with armor and recharging shield health? that was a thing at one point.

Oh they added a passive to the everyone that after a fight ends they start regening health. And for the most part doesn’t change anything with the actual fights.

So you all understand you are playing with goats balancing regardless, right? Where all the tanks had nerfed armor, and playing around a hyper buffed doom / cassidy / soldier / mei.

regardless if it was actually a goats comp that was being played.

META meant nothing in gold and Plat. I won games on Rein with a Hog/Ball/Winston/DVA/Zarya etc against double barrier all the time.

I also won games playing Junkrat against GOATS all the time.

As you say, people didn’t know how to execute the comp. People picked the ‘META’ heroes and didn’t know how to cycle their cooldowns properly as a team. People didn’t know how to cycle ults either which is just as important.

The lower ranked you were, the less the meta meant anything. You’d get flamed still for not playing the meta, sure. Because players were conditioned by their fav streamers to believe it mattered. But it never did. Never. It was in your head all along.

Were you one of the people disillusioned into being a meta slave even in low ranks? Flaming your teammates for not playing the meta picks?

Did it help you climb out of your ranks at all? I’m sure if you paid attention to your overall winrates (what I did) you’d find it wouldn’t matter at all what heroes you choose, so long as you choose a hero you enjoy and are familiar with.

OW2’s meta has lasted the entirety of OW2. The meta is counterwatch. Hard counter the enemy tank at all times is the meta.

yes because people can pick whatever and not everyone wanted to play that, and you can still win games around it. Ult are still strong people still made mistakes, you may get bad supports picks for the line up. Or if it’s a panic swap they are going to be pushing through momentum.

However that doesn’t mean it still didn’t have hard advantages around you. On another note double barrier died and was replaced with a hog/ball and more dive like meta’s. But continued to see play well after that.

So when people talk about the comp especially after ball released who added a lot of counter play to the nerfed duo, that also lost their offensive pull people into the air for a free rock hit. Alot of the time it was after it was no longer an issue.

I also love how the entire conversation pivoted to this topic, like I can see you all copying your each others homework.

and they werent a problem at all because they were niche heroes that would never be top tier in majority of games anyway, so if goats is a strong comp makes sense to buff the heroes that are strong to counter it to balance it out. I agree with you ow1 saw alof of core changes to the design too, but the thing is that the game was new, they were figuring what they actually wanted to game to be like and its completely normal to change things, some were good changes some were not, im def not saying ow1 balance was perfect. BUT in the end all that really matters is how the balance translates into people having fun with the game, and even on goats meta and double shield meta people werent unhappy with the game as they are now, and THAT IS FACTUAL. you can deny all you want about how 5v5 is better, the actual numbers dont lie about how everyone thinks the game is less fun to play

Soldier, cassidy.

niche heroes ???

What in the world are you talking about? The forums were screaming about these two for years. And one of the reasons why people are still complaining about hitscans to this day.

Like cassidy effectively got his fps doubled. And you think he was niche dude.

Secondly I don’t know what rank you were playing, and from what ivory tower you were looking down from. But dooms were everywhere after that patch hit. Their survivability went through the roof. And the only thing holding them back was that cassidy change because flash bang into fan was a kill confirm.

On another note, mei became meta shortly after this going into 2-2-2, carrying those goats changes with her. And was one of the reasons why double barrier was created because of how strong her ability to trap other tanks were.

She had to get her entire wall reworked, to make it fair to play around. As tank use to not be able to squeeze past a single destroyed column. That and well a lot of ice block interactions also got reworked to, so people couldn’t heal her while in their.

Like to say these changes didn’t do anything is just disingenuous.

honestly you are right in some aspects, i remember mei being opressive for a period, my point is that ow1 had clearly defined metas because things MADE SENSE in the game, you had strategy like walling tank behind a mei wall, going goats in small maps like kings row, playing bunker double shield on highground and open maps, going ACTUAL dive comp in ow1, some things were opressive in ow1 in different metas because of strategy, because synergy and comps made sense and the worked as it was supposed to work, on comp and map dependent, and countering felt important but not completely game defining, the biggest example of that is the actual OWL finals that shangai won not playing goats in the epitome of goats meta. now in ow2 things feel oppresive simply because their numbers control is ridiculous, they buff things numerically, mauga for example when he was meta what complexity and strategy has he addeded to the game? 0, he is a completely dumb tank that just tank like a meat shield wall with 0 space creation, no combos, nothing interesting about him. sojourn was op when she oneshotted people over and over by long range, junker queen is an interesting hero that is basically the only interesting meta created by ow2 cause queen was created by original ow1 devs not by this team that has no idea what they are doing. so even when things are strong in ow1 they are not even close this dumb and boring and toxic to play, if you cant see that i mean i guess you can have terrible taste for games, have fun.

So fun fact of the day you can do that! it’s still very strong.

Like legitimately can be a free kill on the types that mostly eat body shot damage, organize a nade or an ult.

To continue this, most ult combo’s are still here to. Bomb/emp, Grav/dragons, nano/Yes, all work, Heck orisa ult, into a mei ult is hard not to work do to you getting to charge as much as you want if suzu is out of the game.

Dive work wonders with winston, d.va, doom and the like.

Bapt ult + mercy into a rien, lets firestrike one shot dps/supports upto 300hp.

Mauga and LW have this funny off the map pedal cage combo. Once you place it on their and break it, cage will fall down the whole and force everyone to come with them.

And I can go on.

Like if you want to really just kill the enemy tank in two’s, theirs not much stopping from doing some nasty stuff. Get into a small duo or trio, and have a fun comp stomp.

Go wild.

yea its still overwatch, but its a worse version of it… thats what we are saying and its kindda obvious that this version of overwatch we have now will never be better.

And because it doesn’t feel right I don’t play anymore.

We’re at a point where the 5v5 defenders have reached the point of total brain death. This version has been out for a really long time and the people who hated 5v5 on day one still hate it. Why? BECAUSE IT’S 5V5.

Seriously, just shut up all of you.

its not working. At all. people are doing 2 and even 3 tank comps. dps are struggling to kill tanks with over 15k dmg each.

And alot of 1 healer matches btw.

This is not fun. 6v6 was better. ow1 was better.

End credits you have reached the conclusion, stop do not pass go!

But joking aside it isn’t worse, if your here for heroes and just hit that QP for action (if know that reference, I will make less jokes)

Then virtually you have a version of ow that is streamlined to let you do that without “having” to do all the ult combo, shield breaking, rien / zarya two-step hulla-dance. And virtually never have to worry about your character just no longer functioning because the enemy team is built to out your ever action. And that being the meta of next 2 years. (I was a very salty mei player, that basically had no real relevant foot hold mechanics wise that wasn’t some triple freeze tech, till very late into OW’s history)

If you want to stack tanks we have a que for ya that’s considered a main gamemode, with all the same benefits in the rewards end.

outside of that, like the passives were mostly features that were asked for by the community. They wanted tanks not to be an ult battery or cheesed off the map easily.

DPS wanted a mechanical advantage that wasn’t the speed boost.

Supports something to take the edge of needing to maintain everything around them, which is still extended to everyone around them.

You know I’m seeing a lot of these first post, no icon near repeat posts on my threads.

As if you made an account just comment on this.

Open que isn’t the main format, if you want a balance game play RQ.

shoot literally anything else. Killing that support will make sure that tank doesn’t last past the first 1000 or so damage you plop into them.

Kill it. Do that first.

If OW2 release was like OW1 then we’d still be in a dive meta…

For such small team, not dying is top priority.

And already be in a new que-format.

yeah stable and working on hardcounter the enemy tank.

Rotates camera 5 degrees to the left…

Starts chewing the head of your supports/dps instead.

People can say what they want about OW2 but it is indisputable that this balance team is light years ahead of the OW1 team. Just one example. Brig was released in March 2018. In December 2018 her bash was nerfed to no longer go through Rein shield. It took them 9 months to make this change…

I can see why they would be hesitant around that, as like she was suppose to break up the dive duo. And that does involve fighting with flankers around a Winston bubble.

It does feel like that rien just should have had a built in resistance to such, more so then it being taken away completely as he was the only one it really effected in that regard.

but no point in really dwelling on something years old now.

ive tried role q

You get sht dps or heals or tanks locked into a role theyre bad at. and shooting the healer behind 2-3 super op tanks with nerfed dps heros is a bad time.

And no, youre not special. I didnt create this account to reply to anyone. Im an old player from 2016, returning to a game i dont even recognize.
