So something I would like to point out, is that 5v5 hasn’t really had any major meta issues, at least compared to what was common place in 6v6.
Their was never really a point were one set of heroes really truly dominated a given period of time. We don’t have a “goats” or “Double Barrier” equivalent. It has been pretty fair to most heroes, and nearly every thing is viable in a given time.
Yes balances issues happened and will happen.
Be it most of the major changes were to address specifically game feel, to make the game feel different from OW1 which is where the health changes came to play to mix things up. Or the recent changes to make tanks feel more “tanky” as your devs put it.
And that is something that is important to keep in mind. It’s less the game broke and more so that it doesn’t “feel right” to play to a good chunk of the player base.
Meh their still was plenty else being played and succeeding around them at that time. Which is still better then most of the meta’s we have been through before.
Meh I jumped on the back line with monkey, combo’d down people with junker queen. Kept LOS to mauga short and sweet. And the team would kill him after we have cut off his sustain.
At least that’s what I did back then. He was definitely a pain but not far from the only thing that worked.
Most of the Tank roster has been fairly even in terms of pick rates and popularity with no singular one really dominating. There are obvious favorites, sure, but in terms of competitive play and the metagame, no single Tank has truly been a dominant type comparatively seen back in 6v6 GOATS or even during Role-Queue.
The same cannot be said for the Support-role; but there quite more variety here, if only because there are more support heroes to choose from.
Only in the top end and she wasn’t dominating in terms of win rates. For 90% of the playerbase, she wasn’t popular, nor was a she a winning choice.
Happened prior to the official launch of OW2.
Neither one last as long as GOATS, or Double-Barrier, and neither were over 10% pick rates across all ranks.
Witch hunting is a reportable offense. Please don’t do it.
Meh highground is a thing, You focus fire the supports with some flankers. Mauga mostly just kind of keeps himself alive. So as long as your not directly attempting to kill him off the back, you do have a lot of room to attack his team.
Oh its its stable alright. And its definitely working. If what youre looking for is opressive character design. Abilities that cannot be outplayed. Counterswapping. constant stomps. A worse gameplay loop. Powercreep. Unfair role power distribution. Less teamplay. Less fun. More denial abilities. More sustain. Then yes 5v5 is super stable and working.
Agreed. While there have been a couple of patches where one tank dominated most ranks, they were able to fix it quickly. It’s much easier to balance 5v5.
5v5 has had plenty of meta issues, but Blizzard has been a lot more reactive with their balance changes since OW2. Mauga was the most obvious offender, so they just dumpstered him for a while.
meh, not my experience. I usually play something that works well with my team first and formost out of hand full of characters I want to play. Then set up some basic engagement tactics, and target priority. Ult combo’s.
And it’s enough to push through whatever jumble of popular picks they want to throw at you.
Like when you detach your self from the tank match up, as if this was a 1v1 fighter. Then like… you kind of just play the game as it was intended as you engage with the 4 other characters you can interact with on either team.
Ya that’s kind of a backup plan for when they are actively in the middle of trying to find a good fix, but don’t want the issue to continue while their doing that.
Hog went through something similar prior to his rework.
