That was building off the conversation up to this point.
Were you pointed out my experiences were subjective or antidotal. When I stated I was mostly playing JQ and winston ignoring the tank in favor of attacking the dps/supports.
And I backed my experience up with the logic I was playing around. And why I was doing that.
But hey you can complain all you want.
And you can call that logic Flawed all you want. but in reality it doesn’t take much to kill a tank when his supports or dead or busy not dying.
yea yea its your opinion against the overwhelming majority of peopled that played 1 and 2 and have a brain and can see and feel why overwatch 1 was better and ow2 is a worse version in almost every possible aspect and we def respect your opinion as much as we respect flat earth believers
Meh if you find the polls that get a few thousand participants you see that it’s generally split 50/50 between the two formats. If not slightly in favor of 5v5.
Most people don’t engage in the forums or social media of a game. Especially those happy with the game it’s self.
So a lot of the people that end here that are not regulars, tend to be those that want it to change for one reason or another. Or in other words are not happy with the game.
In a lot of cases it just echo chamber of negativity. Which is commonly why a lot of fandoms turn sour.
yea they simply dont know what to do to make the game feels better without just simply going back to overwatch 1, they will try anything without any test because they are obligated to make the new seasons feel different, they are digging a hole so deep and with every change overwatch just gets worse, its honestly the nightmare scenario we got, its the polar opposite of what overwatch 2 should be and insane people here will say that the game is better now. Truly shows how some people have 0 taste and critical thinking.
BECAUSE THEY LEFT. OVERWATCH PLAYERS LEFT THE GAME. these pools only feel balanced because the majority of people still engage with ow2 or are new players, majority of ow1 players that tried this trash sequel ALREADY LEFT and are playing new things. This game is bleeding players while ow1 was capable of retaining players even with 1/5 of new things. because the gameplay loop was good. its pretty obvious how unsatisfied original overwatch players are with the sequel and you are completely delusional if you think otherwise.
the people here spilling negativity are actually the people that still love this game enough to care, the rest just stopped playing. We complain because we care and we want the game that we fell in love back. Blizzard should be thankful they have such a loyal fanbase even tho they tried THEIR HARDEST every single day to destroy it
at least it had that, offtank players could queue to tank thinking they would have fun playing the hero they like in a offtank position that used to be fun. Like i used to love playing dva when her design used to actually make sense, she was dynamic, focused on making plays with defense matrix, countering flyers, defending the backline from flank or flanking herself, now she just turned into a stupid meatshield that sits still and ocasionally jumps into someone to delete them with op fire instead of how she used to have to actually track the enemy with left mouse to get kills. Dva was more popular in ow1 than she is now and she has always been one of the most popular heroes in the game. even as popular as she is nobody plays her cause somebody will just swap to zarya and ruin your fun and win the game by simply picking a hero. One tank ow2 experience is MISERABLE, majority of ow1 tank mains had more fun and now just gave up playing tank. But nothing wrong with 5v5 in your opinion i guess
The fun part about metas like goats and double shields, is that they did not effect every level of play, mostly masters and GM and some in diamond.
But for the most part, the average player did not have to deal with the OW1 metas.
OW2 has indivual hero metas, one hero being overly strong. Those types of metas effect all ranks much more then something like goats or double shields.
And IMO, OW2 has the worse hero metas. Every season in OW2 there is some new OP hero, sobjorn, JQ, Widow, Mauga, Illari, tracer, ect.
Where OW1 felt like it didnt have those as much, Ya we had release brig and sigma, but it never felt like any specfic hero was running the game, where OW2 does feel like specfic heroes run the game.
Hope that makes sence im kinda rambling. and its mostly im opinion
another example: When we moved to ow2 we saw i dont know how many months of winston having a MISERABLE experience because every single time he jumped he would get deleted in 5 seconds. Why? because dva is no longer there to help him. Dva could do the job of helping the main tank stay alive to make dive a viable comp and making her gameplay more varied, complex and fun. Same thing for rein, he STILL has a miserable ow2 experience because zarya is gone, making in a shieldbot because he cant swing, shield, swing, shield that he was designed to do. ow1 make main tank and offtanks experience more enjoyable and complex, made the teamfights have 2 visual focal points, be more dynamic and create cooler synergies. I just cannot understand how someone can believe that this dumb gameplay loop of countering and 2 gigantic meatshield staring at each other until one dies and the teamfight is over is better than what we had in actual overwatch.
Umm, you listed 4 different tanks. That’s not in any way a single “meta.” Nor is it at all accurate that 5v5 “always favor[s] heavy front liners.” Heck, the best tank right now is probably D.Va! And the meta in early OW2 was Winston. I could go on. This is just a really silly argument. The tank meta in OW2 has changed quite a lot (with a lot of different tanks featuring), and also has never really been a hard meta for any real extended period of time. This is definitely in stark contrast to what it was often like in OW1. Granted, a lot of that is just that they’re making more frequent changes to the game now, which naturally changes metas up quicker and fixes egregiously overtuned stuff promptly. But, at any given time, the scope of viable tanks at the highest levels (everything is viable at lower levels) is generally larger in OW2 than it usually was in OW1. The metas were typically more specific and inflexible back then. And some of that is actually because of the 6v6 format—the metas were more inflexible in large part because they relied on specific OP tank synergies, which dictated what tanks had to be played, and therefore also ended up largely dictating what DPS and supports had to be played to gel best with that tank duo. It’s definitely more flexible now, because there’s no tank synergies dictating hard metas. Occasionally, we’ll still get individual tanks that are so OP that they are hard meta. We saw that briefly with Mauga. And that’s where Blizzard patching frequently is very helpful. But the nature of the 6v6 format was more likely to end up with hard metas than the 5v5 format.
People don’t inherently know how to play around them, so even without good play. They can just stomp over you for just having a metric tone of damage sheilds and ways to block your ults or just alot of the best ults in game by themsleves.
It’s not hard to see why a gold comp would have issues with enemy throwing shatter, d.va bomb, grav, nano, and spamming heals with moria/ana.
Then their is the issue of counter balances that happened with goats. Because doom/mei/cassidy/soldier. All got super buffed.
And were everywhere in lower ranks. So if you were just playing something random a good chance these four were just over running whatever your trying to do.
Go parrot…their opinion, based on actual lived experience of the game, in which what they stated about metas not really affecting the majority was actually true…?
You’re implying that double shield or goats are the only way Overwatch can be broken. When they have to, as Flats put it, turn tanks into friggin’ kaiju in order for it to be remotely fun to play tank again, something is fundamentally flawed. Is everyone playing the same 2 or 3 comps? No. That doesn’t mean it’s not broken though. There has never been a moment since they launched OW2, that it’s been fun to play all 3 roles. Right now, with this latest patch, tank and support are fun, it’s not fun to play DPS. 2 weeks ago, I’d play dps and support but you couldn’t pay me to play tank with anyone but my usual team.
Broken means a lot more than just a hard meta. When any given patch disenfranchises 33% of the playerbase, you’ve got a problem.
I write business software for IT companies… and I’m telling you right now, if every patch I released for an RMM broke the workflow for 1/3 of a given client’s employees (yay, now finance doesn’t work properly, so the engineers can fix and maintain systems but y’all can’t bill for it!), I’d go out of business real fast… especially if I was breaking my software so bad then turning around and still using microtransactions to do stupid stuff like, say, charging you $20 to put your logo in your signature or another $20 to change the window color to blue. But Blizz gets away with not only telling us they aren’t going to do what the majority are asking for, but we don’t, in fact, want that because it’d be stupid to want that and we’re not stupid, are we? I swear, reading Blizz announcements anymore feels like talking to that toxic ex that tells you you’re crazy for feeling like them beating the cat was wrong, you clearly have issues.
All I can tell you is that if you think there’s no meta in OW2, you clearly didn’t try to play Hog or Orisa against Mauga when he was released. Or playing Lifeweaver… literally ever? Tell me you can play any hero in any match, and I’ll tell you your rank. Tell me you have the freedom to choose any tank you want to play without being accused of throwing before the doors even open and having 2 people quit, and I’ll tell you what role you main.
This post has “Blizzard employee’s personal account” stamped all over it. Stop telling me I’m not allowed to think 6v6 was better or comment on the game being the most toxic it’s ever been.
For one, this argument just started like half way through the reply chain. Then got spammed over and over after that. So sorry If I call out parroting when I see it.
secondly, it is false.
Even tho frequency of such was less and less the further you go down. Were like ya in silver or lower it truely doesn’t matter.
but by the time you get to higher gold plat and diamond. You will find players that will be able to execute the very basics of the comp. And can at very least do ult combo’s, or space out ults.
I was in those ranks in 6v6, they were played. Just not like you would in the tip tops of play. Which were performance in such actually matters. Which is the part people tend to also mix up, because in the higher ranks people can learn to play around such. Requiring stricter and more organized play to hold the comp together.
That and well it’s muddy topic because like game changes, counter picks, and new heroes also heavily influence the effectiveness of such. So by the time something like DB started dripping down the ladder in mass, it was kind of already solved with the barrier changes, and Ball being a hard coutner to such. Let the higher rank changes the broke their offensive combo in pulling someone into the air for free damage and rock.
Hog S tier hero from s1 to s10, now still strong, Sigma meta and S tier from s1 till now, Sojourn S tier from s1 to s10, Kiriko S tier and meta from s1 to now (still the strongest support in game), Bap S tier from s1 to now, Illari S tier from her release date till now.
Reaper unplayable from s1 till now, Hanzo guttet and left alone to die (now is the weakest DPS in game, literally no reason to pick this hero at all), Ana worst support in game, cant compete with these AOE, immoratility field supports with hyper mobility and survivability.
Yeah not a single hero has been dominating in the lifespan of Overwatch 2 I can agree.
dude had a moment in the sun, and got nerfed. But like he was easily countered by a whole host of things. And was pretty safe to push into his team the moment hook went off line.
so maybe low ranks but generally not a “meta threat”, outside of like few weeks prior to the nerf.
Funny how you only reply to 1 thing and that is a Roadhog, a hero that has been S tier his whole Ow2 life span, oh but you are watching some tier list from an youtuber and he doesnt place hog in S tier thats why hog is not S tier.
I understand that you won’t ever understand why he was S tier and now is still 1 of the strobgest tanks in the game even after “nerfs”. You just cant comprehend the value that hero gets and gives.
There is a reason why multiple hog mains were still top50 in theyr ranks even after the massive hog nerfs.
TBH, as a player who started with OW2 and never played OW1, and only plays Supp, I do not mind 5v5. The only time I don’t like it is when a tank come to the backline and your team just totally ignores it and the enemy tank kills both supports and lives happy ever after…
