There are simply not enough Tank players for 5V5 because Tanks are not a lucrative enough role.
Tanks are forced to mindlessly counter swap, because everyone else has decided to mindlessly counter swap them. This is because Tanks were never designed for 5V5 and thus have massive, exploitable weaknesses.
D.Va will always have a massive weakness to beams, but Blizzard thinks that buffing her DM duration will help her? Newsflash guys, 3.5 seconds of not blocking beams isn’t any better than 3 seconds of not blocking beams.
The solution to counter swapping would be to make every character have no weaknesses and to be good at everything, which would be boring AF to play as, with and against.
Since every Tank would have to be a 500 health Soldier: 76, players would get mad at not being able to kill the Tank as easily and Tanks would be mad that they’ve lost all of their hero’s fantasy just to play Armoured: 76, or Obese: 76, or Horse: 76, etc.
And this doesn’t even mention the fact that Tanks still get ruined by every single CC and debuff in the game. 50% DPS passive immunity, 50% Sleep Dart immunity and 50% knockback immunity doesn’t even scratch the surface of all of the things a solo Tank can endure in a single match.

Tank just isn’t that enjoyable of a role for a near equal amount of players compared to DPS/Support, especially not when the 6v6 format requires them to be meganerfed compared to 5v5

There will never be enough tank players to support either. So we should just let people play their preferred format. They have 100 million players, so it should be perfectly fine unless they’re lying(which they definitely are).

5v5 seems to be doing fine for me. My DPS queues are fast as hell compared to 6v6

My DPS queues in 6v6 were under a minute. My DPS queues in 5v5 are 3+ minutes. Seems like it doesn’t matter which format we use, but only one of them is the better option.

The entire time 6v6 lasted. I am not a good player or anything so it was always going to pull from the majority of players when finding a match.
I think the longest I waited during that time was still only 3 minutes on a bad day.

There’s no way. I don’t believe you lol. DPS queue times got bad after role queue, no one was having under a minute queue times for DPS on a regular basis

They said the average DPS queue time for 6v6 was 6 minutes. It adds up to me and my own memory of things.
Oh and 6 minutes isn’t even long enough to justify 5v5 being here either.

I think you have it backwards. 6v6 can’t work because no matter what, there will never be an equal ratio of tank players to support/DPS. They just finished giga-buffing tanks and all it did was equalize the queues, which tells us that at their peak, tank mains represent half the total population of DPS/supports. And queues are beginning to rise again indicating the honey moon period is ending and people are leaving the role again.
The single tank format can work. They’ve barely tried anything and you people are already writing it off as a failure. So far, they’ve tried making tanks OP with flat buffs to stats they don’t need and that’s pretty much it.
They have not tried:
- Creating a debuff/disable resistance passive
- Increasing damage/mobility while decreasing total health to make tanks more like DPS.
- Punishing tank focus fire by giving tanks ult charge for taking damage.
- Pickable passives to offset counterpicking (interesting idea).
6v6 wasn’t such a perfect format to deserve this crusade to bring it back. All the people begging for it are high level players who played in lobbies where tank synergies were consistently pulled off, but this was not the case in metal ranks. Double tank in metal ranks pretty much played like single tank anyway so for most people outside of GM, there is not enough of a difference bringing back double tank to offset the downside of queue times.

If there aren’t enough tank players for 5v5, 6v6 is a complete non-starter.
Remember in OW1 they had to do role queue because not enough people wanted to play tanks. That has never changed. Old Kaplan wanted 1-3-2 ffs.
This update they’ve got coming in the next week or some, I’d be surprised if it is anything more than “we hear you, we will keep an eye on it, but here is all the data as to why you are wrong and the business reasons 6v6 can’t happen any time soon”.

There aren’t enough Tanks for 5V5 because they are treated like meat shields and CC slaves.
In 6V6, when Tanks get the respect they deserve, there should be enough of a resurgence to balance the Roles, provided Blizzard can actually balance properly.
