500+ hours on supports = can’t play anything else

why is this the mentality of almost anyone who doesn’t play support in this game?

it doesn’t make sense for me to have been playing for 3 years and not know how to play anything outside of mercy/ana or the other supports

and then people assume you can’t play anything else (just from seeing your most played) which isn’t logical at all. people belittle support players yet demand a pocket every other game.

it’s stupid how support players are treated esp if the game is lost and i’ve got 22k heals with nearly 40% of team damage taken. or nearly that much on an off-healer

why is this the only role that doesn’t get respect in this game and even outside of it?

what makes the other roles superior?

DPS, Support, and Tank roles all take a very different mentality to play. Most people who have played only a single role for the majority of their time playing OW can absolutely struggle to play a different role because of how different they need to play compared to what they’re used to. This applies to everyone, not just supports.

It’s not about the inability of playing other roles.
It’s about not being effective in those roles.

You guys get treated like saints compared to how DPS are treated during any given time of the game.

I personally have never heard of anyone saying that if you play the support category you can’t play anything else.

I’ve only heard this with Mercy but the Whole support category

lol what

I get thanked all the time for healing… so I’m not sure where this is coming from.

The title of the thread has some weight though… Some people do think this way.

You know, it just isn’t true.

I went from playing Ana to playing Ashe and I was pretty much immediately up to my regular standards. Some DPS and tanks are hard to play, but not all of them and some skills transfer fine.

? that isn’t really my point.

ana and ashe are similar so it makes sense for you to go from ana to ashe without any difficulty…

Same, and I have seen cases which this was true. I can understand the mentality that people that main Mercy can’t play any “skillful” hero effectively. I don’t necessarily agree but I can see why they say that.

Your mistake was keeping your profile public.
Once you fix that, your problems will be gone.

Pretty much this. Had a game recently where I said I’m a tank main and these dps mains took the tanking roles. I told em I’m not currently the best dps and the dps hero’s I can play semi well are limited too.

We lost miserably and was told you suck. “Yeah, I told you that and yet you decided to play the worst Reinhardt I have ever had the displeasure of seeing”

you want people on what they do best

Supports get a lot of respect. I mean most 4-5 ranked peeps are support mains. They get the card votes and the endorsements.

Just because some people feel entitled to heals doesn’t mean your not generally respected.

Yeah a lot of ppl think I only play mercy because I have the most hours on her. Yet people like to ignore my 100+ hours of widow. lol

nah it’s more like “you play mercy so get on mercy” kind of thing. and this even applies to the other roles! usually it’s the entitled dps making these kinds of suggestions

nope. i’ve heard my teammates get mad and bad mouth others who have had their profiles private along with “they’re probably a mercy main” as an insult

i think you’re talking about the other side of the situation where yea it is good to generally be praised when you manage to please your whole team but the other side that is addressed in the OP and in the title, is that there are people who actually think just cause you play x character, you should only play x character

I see that now. Frankly this is an issue everyone has. If you are easily pressured just put your profile on private. You cant change stubborn ill-informed minds.

I keep my profile public because I don’t care what you think I should play. If I want to play something I barely play that’s my choice. You got to start somewhere.

So does asking for someone to go their main qualify someone as entitled?

That’s an opportunity to have interesting conversations and by that I mean you can get them even more riled up and laugh at their face. It always works and you get to have fun.

I get way more respect as a healer that barely helps than as a DPS that carries. Maybe you are doing it wrong? Just go DPS first and they will be happy once you switch and wouldn’t dare complain.

the point is

max hours spent on a hero doesn’t always mean it’s their main.

especially in this situation.

How does that ancient saying go? Better to keep your profile private and be thought a Mercy main, than to keep it public and remove all doubt? :joy:

So what does the term “Main” mean exactly?
