5 hardest hero to master

What are the 5 hardest hero to play well in your opinion

1 Wrecking ball

  • his tecs are insanly hard and their is alot of them. On top balancing back line diving and disrupting the tank or flankers to keep your back line alive is alot of work.

2 Tracer

  • shes super fragile and has the hardest cool down management on top of trying to aim while teliporting in 360 different directions.

3 Genji

  • pulling off his combos consistently is super difficult. Aiming 3 diffrent projectiles at once. Aiming deflect to get full value.

4 zen

  • juggling his 2 orbs while aiming. Aiming his right click consistently. Having low mobility and limited defensive abilities.

5 mei

  • understanding when to keep your wall up or drop your wall on top of how to place to well. Aiming her right click and understanding when to use her ult best to counter other ults.

Honorable mentions lucio,junkrat,doom and pharah

I’d swap out Zen for someone else. Widow is mechanically more difficult to play than Zen.

I also think Sombra should be up there. As a diamond Tracer, I felt Sombra was more difficult to master. She requires a lot of game sense and positional awareness, knowing when to set up the translocator vs when to commit without it. Very easy to end up not being part of the fight, or being out of position when you need to stop an ult.

I’d put Sombra 2nd to Wrecking Ball.

Thats the problem shes only has to aim yes it not easy im a tf2 sniper main but i would put demo soldier and engi as harder characters to master aim is important but the thing is thats all widow is aim so i thing shes definitely not bottem 18 but not top 10 either.

Sombracjust lost out to mei for me do to wall being a harder ability to use exceptional well.

ana zen tracer kiriko genji

edit jq too . big kit . its so cool watching a good one play

Fair enough. I think Mei is a little easier to play mechanically than Sombra. You need better tracking with Sombra to get those kills, Mei has her spread. But I do agree wall requires a lot of positional and ability cooldown awareness. Still, I’d argue Sombra requires more game sense than Mei, but very close.

Hardest to master support is Lucio.

Mobility heroes are usually the hardest to master.

Ball and Doom
Tracer and Genji
Lucio and…if mercy needed more mechanics she would be here.

In my opinion…

(In no particular order)

  • Echo (3 different aiming styles + another angle of consideration. Complex movement. Complex ultimate.)
  • Ball (Complex movement. Unorthodox playstyle.)
  • Baptiste (2 different aiming styles. Drop aiming. Extremely vital cooldowns.)
  • Tracer (EXTREMLEY complex movement. EXTRMLEY unforgiving. Aim that is made more difficult from movement.)
  • Sigma (Lots of cooldowns to manage. Projectiles. Predictive blocks/catching key abilities. Punishing positioning.)

You could also probably throw Ana and Genji somewhere around here but IMO they’re both pretty forgiving which makes them much easier to pick up (and therefore they have a smaller difference between their min and max value)

Surprised there’s not much Echo talk; usually she comes up in terms of difficult heroes since you have to be at least competent on pretty much everyone.

Lol i completely forgot echo lol and i think her ult is the only hard part of her kit she has a very easy combo with nade beam. But her ult is hands down the hardest ult

Every hero has uniquely different learning curves, and no hero can be “mastered”. You cannot ever play a hero perfectly, and if you claim to be able to do this, I would like a replay code.

Not saying i am a master but being a master at a hero isnt being perfect its being close to perfect.

There aren’t players that are ever “close to perfect”. All people make mistakes, even professional players.

Look, I honestly just don’t like these arguments because they usually just devolve into people trying to convince you that their heroes are the hardest, or that the most aim instensive heroes are the hardest. In reality, there is no such thing as a skill ceiling on any hero, and so the argument feels pointless to me. There are always things you can improve upon, and things in your game that need work.

Don’t really agree with this statement. I think a lot of heroes require less time to get value off of compared to other heroes. The game was designed with that discrepancy in mind. “Skill ceiling” is a term that developers use all the time, and why OWL players stick to certain metas.

This is a “value floor”, and is not at all what I’m arguing here. There are absolutely some heroes that have more front loaded learning curves, and there are heroes with back loaded learning curves, but no hero has a hard ceiling.

I cannot recall a single time a dev ever insinuated that any hero had a ceiling that could not be surpassed (please if you have an example of this, I would like to see it). Again, there are absolutely heroes that have varied skill to time investment curves, but no hero has a cap on how good you can get with it. There is always room for improvement.

OWL players play whatever composition is most efficient in a particular balance state. They do not simply go “oh these five individual heroes have the largest ceilings so we’ll play those”. They do not care about what heroes they feel express the most skill, they only care about what works in a given meta. That’s it.

If you dont believe me, here is Jake (former pro player and current pro coach) talking about assembling a team composition for a given balance patch:

(Starts at 28:09 and you can listen until you’re satisfied)

Hammond- to master his movement techs, easily hundreds of hours and you can still be learning techs.
Doomfist- Same as Hammond- mastery of movement is difficult.
Tracer- Glass Cannon
Sombra- highest game awareness in the game to be great also probably gets the most toxicity as you climb.
Echo-three different ways of doing damage, her ultimate is the hardest to master.
