Before you say “git gud”: Already done. I’m good. End of story. Problem is I can’t make use of my skill and am forced to play random heroes I am unskilled at.
I was at ~3940, almost GM. Then I hit a huge losing streak and I am down to 3780, I think I will go down even further soon. I noticed very often we had at least 3, if not 4 or even 5 DPS mains on one team, while the enemy team never had more than 3.
So I was not even allowed to play anyone I’m good at, and was forced to play roles (like main tank, healer) that I play at a diamond level at best, meanwhile I get a genji one trick, reaper OT and hanzo OT (actually happened last game).
The decent team members who played tank/support as DPS mains (though this only happens if I am lucky) also ended up completely throwing (torb sym etc. on attack) after the first round because we got stomped so hard the first round thanks to nothing else other than bad matchmaking.
This loss streak happened over the course of about 3 days, not one sitting, so don’t say “queue dodge”/“play another time.” I’ve tried morning, afternoon, night, midnight, very little difference. I also queue dodge constantly, but the next batch of players is just as bad.
So these losses are not my fault whatsoever because I’m not even allowed to play what I’m good at. Even if I have a >50% winrate with a hero that I’m good at, it will eventually end up <50% because the 50% winrate would only apply to games where I have a chance to even make mistakes that can be corrected; so not these games.
I don’t understand: why does the matchmaker think this is okay to do? It’s never okay and this is what causes unavoidable losses. This urgently needs to be addressed.

I’ve suggested locked role queues in a discussion thread. It’s probably not going to happen, but could be a potential fix to avoid a team of one trick dps.
Another option might be a preferred hero select in your character profile that enable you to select 6-8 heroes you prefer to play so matchmaking can avoid putting 6 one trick genjis on a team.

Role queue would naturally fix a lot of problems with communication and bullheadedness from people. Who honestly gives 2 rips if you have to wait longer? If you get better quality matches, it’s worth it.
Blizzard hurts the progress of its own game.

Except it’s not the end of the story because you are only “good” at one hero/role and by your own admission are not flexible enough to accommodate other players who are also not flexible enough to play other roles. What makes you any different from the players you are actually complaining about?

It’s not a matter of if the DPS players on my team are good are not; it’s a matter of me being bad at tanking and support.
Do you think Dafran, Kephrii etc. are able to fill any role at a top 500 level? The answer is no, and you know it.

Yes, they are. I play mainly support and a nasty D.Va at bronze. I watched Custa (a support for dallas) on stream playing D.Va in high ranked comp and immediately picked up on flaws in my own play (obviously, I’m in bronze after all).
Also Kariv who can play anything at league level. I would argue six player with decent ability on heals/tank/dps beat 4-6 pure dps everytime.
Players with competence across all three roles will find themselves in better situation than single roll players.
The majority of top 500 / GM players didn’t get there by flexing all roles every game (take a look at the leaderboard), and I shouldn’t be forced to just to rank up.

I understand that. Top 500 players have a preferred class, but it’d be silly to assume they aren’t at least competent across all rolls.
I believe having a go at all roles plays crucially into gaining decent team/game sense. By playing tanks, supports and DPS you gain an understanding of how they work, how to counter them and how to work around them within your own team.
(disclaimer: I’m bronze, don’t listen to me)

that makes no sense…
You whine about your team locking in certain heroes, you not getting the hero you want and feel it’s keeping you out of GM. Yet you want to do the exact same thing?
Maybe to get into GM, the top sub 1% of the player base you NEED to get better with other heroes. I don’t even see how, as a mid 3k player back in the day myself, anyone feels ok even going into GM knowing they will get blown out if not on certain heroes? I feel bad getting crushed just at 3k if I was not playing my mains.
If if takes 1/2 as season grinding tanks or support to get decent enough with them to bust into GM, what’s the issue? That’s just what it’s going to take for you to do it. It’s not like you will always get your picks at GM either.
Well that or buy a faster PC/SSD etc so you load in faster to instalock I guess.

Dafran played Ana on an Eichenwalde game and nearly threw, before getting back to Tracer and winning it. I mean, the dude couldn’t even use his ult once on point A, and used it on a 50 hp reinhardt that died instantly.
They’re not where they’re at for their flexibility indeed :<
Funny a dps main complaining about dps mains. Why not learn to play every hero?

Pretty much, even if it’s not only dps. There’s such so many games where 4 or 5 people in a team have the same main role.
I don’t want the master support flexing on a plat level tank. Why would I?
The games become low quality.
It’s unreasonable to expect everyone to be able to play all roles. People have a prefered role and is having one of eachin the team really that much to ask? Cause I really don’t want to be playing Genji when we have 3 other Genji mains who can literally play nothing else. And it’s certainly not fun.
I’m assuming matchmaker doesn’t take this into account in any way. It just doesn’t balance games by role play time. So that’s just your bad luck. And of course, we want this to be addressed asap by any means Blizzard can come up with. Implement role queue, hardcode at least 1 support player and 1 tank player to be matched into each team, whatever.
Maybe you should learn to flex, there are so many people that play dps. Who cares if you’re not having fun, you just want SR, right?

I think an ingame LFG interface could net you the team you’re looking for.
I know most people don’t like to hear this but locked role que really ins’t the answer. The answer is for people to learn more heroes. Its blatantly encouraged by the fact that you got 4-5 dps “mains” on one team. You can’t really main a hero in this game because not every hero is great against every comp. This game encourages team play and diversity and I far too often see players just being unhappy with how the game is and demanding something because of it.
If you play DS, you don’t demand that From Software give you an easier game, you just don’t play it or get good enough to beat it. If you want to only play 1 or 2 dps heroes only, then you belong in quickplay, plain and simple, or you get good enough to play ranked more flexibly. Hopefully the matchmaker changes coming fix these issues by rewarding more flexible players over more gold medals.
Really not trying to ruffle any feathers, just offering a different view on a big issue with OverWatch.

There will always be that very large percent of the player base that won’t do this. You can’t change this because not everyone will flex like me or possibly you.
Didn’t the old complaint used to be about all these horrible support people one tricking their way up to GM?

nah that was only mercy after getting her rework and being insanely overboosted for only god knows why it took so long to balance her
I’ve had many, many High Diamond games where we have 5 DPS and 1 healer(Usually lucio for some reason) and we stomp them with that even though it’s a ‘not okay’ comp
