Today i’ve got for free an IBM Model M (second gen) and a CRT monitor (because i don’t have money for a decent LCD one): an LG Flatron F900P.
I am now using it in 1200x900 at 115hz, and with some games i even use 800x600 at 160hz.
Some players still use CRT for my same reason, and we all have the same issue: playing with black bars (mitigated a little bit using 16:10 aspect ratio) it’s a bit annoying, because the screen isn’t filled with the game screen.
Even games like Quake Champions and CSGO support 4:3 aspet ratios.
So, will 4:3 support be ever added to the game?
not sure what you mean, I used to have a 4:3 monitor last year before it broke and I was able to select 4:3 in game
I mean, you can change resolution but with any aspect ratio on 4:3 CRTs you will always have black barson top and bottom of the screen
I don’t know what you consider decent really.
I used a hand me down a 2009 CFL lit 720p HP monitor for years before I bought a used $17 HannsG 60hz 1080p monitor on Facebook.
You don’t have to buy new or drop serious cash on 144Hz 4K monitors, get something solid and used for cheap. This stuff is everywhere, don’t make excuses for lack of CRT monitor support.
200€ for a 144hz monitor it’s quite a lot for me, since i’m a student and i don’t have the legal age to work.
Also i prefer CRTs for many reasons (high refresh rates, very low input lag, awesome colors), andi think it’s kinda sad that 4:3 is supported by other games but not Overwatch. Also there are some professional players who still prefer 4:3 aspect ratio
That’s why I’m saying check the second hand market. You don’t have to buy new.
But as far as CRT’s go, there’s near next to no benefit of using them with modern hardware even if there is support for them.
I’ve got my CRT for my classic consoles as the 4:3 aspect ratio looks terrible stretched to a 16:9 or 16:10. But your benefits listed for CRT’s just isn’t the case. They’re outdated and not produced for a reason. Give me the name of one pro FPS player who uses a CRT in any league play with modern games. I’ll wait.
Hand me down monitors are cheap and easy to find, even for poor non working young adults.
I didn’t said CRT are used in pro play, i said simply some pros use 4:3 on 16:9 LCD monitors
Unless you live in Italy
I can agree. Most italians either don’t care about computers or they go all out for the most expensive gear to then complain about not having money
Or if you’re a student that hasn’t much money it’s quite a pain.
Anyway i’m getting over this issue using 720p stretched at 140hz, and i can say it’s pretty smooth but the FoV it’s quite strange
