6v6 with min 1, max 3 format. RQ is too restrictive to feel truly creative, flex players can never take over for their teammates if needed, and players are truthfully too stupid and/or selfish to have open queue be competitive
hero bans in ranked. Literally, no synergy in the game CAN be dominant, overwhelming every lobby, if players can choose to remove one of the cogs that makes that machine work. Alternatively, players can just get rid of Sombra and Widowmaker permanently, metas be damned, and the exceedingly high ban rates might finally cuase the devs to look into why players dislike them
put talents in the main game. PvE is dead, hero missions are dead, and yet talents did have a ton of work put into them. If we sort of average out the powers of talents, not having them tiered like in Junkenstein’s Lab (the best thing to happen to OW2, it really isn’t close in my opinion) and instead let players choose something like 3 talents from a pool of 8, every single game will feel different forever
Chasing meticulous balance gave us a barren wasteland of a game. Like, the league is dead, nobody gives a crap about watching this game, and less people are inspired to play it than ever. Half the complaints are “my hero is watered down and boring” and that’s what happens when you turn superhero fantasy action into a numbers game of trying to even out winrates for all heroes in all modes
The hyper competitive side of the community, and trying to force OW to be an esport, killed what the majority of players considered the “soul” of the game. Look at Rivals in comparison- team ups change or even add to your abilities, and it’s not even up to individual choice if you get them or not. OW could so easily slide in and make an even COOLER system with more agency.
Would it be balanced? No. Do I care? No. I want to have fun and feel like a damn superhero, not like my hero choice is dictated by how strong Sombra/Widow are in any given patch. And watching people wait in anticipation for weeks for scraps of balance changes is just sad compared to what competition now offers.
Nah. Most I’d accept is unlimited DPS, limit 2 on tanks and supports. A minimum is a bad idea as the last guy to pick is the guy who gets screwed. Horrible dynamic to have in a game. Most people want to play DPS anyway and DPS was never and likely will never be the role that defines the meta in an unhealthy manner given how characters in that role are designed.
Why, though? In terms of how hard it is to balance it’s not very different from just adding new characters, which is almost universally liked. Why add “unnecessary” complexity that way instead of focusing that dev work on new character releases?
Counter point. I play all 3 roles, and sometimes the moron on Rein would be much less of a hinderance to the team if I was on Rein. Except I can’t swap to him, because I picked support. Now my ability to play Rein is meaningless until the next game, where I may or may not be tank, and where Rein may or may not be the best choice. Horrible dynamic to have in a game.
Because Overwatch 2, in 2019, was hyping up all the epic ways we were gonna build our heroes and make them cooler and crazier than we remembered them in the first game… only to say “no that entire 70% of the game isn’t real, intead here’s a 5v5 version of the same game” and that’s the worst way to have a shiny new exciting sequel I’ve ever witnessed
At least this way, the game would feel like it progressed from a starting point (OW1) and became something greater
Ah my mistake, sorry. I still don’t prefer that to at least guaranteeing one tank/support, though. If a GOATs-like scenario is your issue, that’s more of an OW hero designers issue than a format one, Rivals has open queue and I haven’t seen anyone even talk about a 0-1 DPS comp being OP
No doubt, but based on some dev statements, it still wasn’t enough for all the heroes. Having PvP-tier balance with that stuff is also probably impossible, making it only suitable for a smaller set of heroes, or an aarcade mode, or PvE.
Yes but so does the enemy guy, and he’s gonna come stomp you with some OP talent that either you equip too or lose.
Not a fan of hero bans, in any mode. Partly because the hero who gets banned is precisely the hero I like to play.
So, who’s getting voted off the island?
Could’ve just led with that.
Granted, I understand why you would be mistrustful of the playerbase. But what you’re talking about with hero bans, the removal of synergies between heroes (who don’t have to be Sombra and Widow) creates a loss of agency between players, for the sake of creating easier matches.
You handicap the players when you take away their heroes.
The only format I cannot see myself getting into with 6v6 is any that has more than 1 tank. So count me out if 2 or more tanks is allowed.
I don’t think bans will fundamentally make the game better. But I do think we should have them.
The only way this would happen realistically would be in Arcade and we all know how little those modes added up contributes to the overall population/popularity. If they wanted to put it in QP/ranked we’d be forking off of what OW2 is at it’s core and I don’t think that’s going to happen.
To be 100% factual the competitive community did not do this. Blizzard forced the game to be competitive, not the people who played the game. The game can be casually to a great degree of fun even with things like role limits and no double heros. If that weren’t true we wouldn’t have OW2.
Rivals is a party game and thus I can’t take it serious. It’s like telling me to look at Dead by Daylight in a competitive way. Yes I know people have done so. But it’s never dev supported and the game is virtually dead ended if you try to play it competitively.
So I don’t like comparing OW with MR. They offer different experiences for different people. I do not think the path forward for OW2/OW as a whole is to cannibalize itself to be more like Rivals.
Then go play the game that is obviously pandering to what you find enjoyable. Stop trying to force OW to be something you like when it’s very clearly not for you.
I’ve been here for 8 years and watched this game fall harder than almost anything of its magnitude. Clearly, what they’ve tried thus far hasn’t exactly worked or been exciting to anyone outside the Overwatch bubble, and half the time not even the people within it. Maybe trying to be the same thing but even more hyper focused on matching winrates so Torb and Synmetra are just as viable on attack Havana as McCree or whatever stupid BS they’ve been measuring is a stupid idea that doesn’t retain, let alone grow an interested playerbase
You’re throwing your game either way. At least with minimum, you have the excuse that you got forced into it. If you choose to willingly not fill, you’re literally just as guilty as everyone else is.
