3 main tanks; required picks; 2 are not even fun to play

Some people say you can play whatever you want to play…but if you want to win you have to play the role nobody else wants to play…tanks.

I’d gladly rather play support than tank, but Then you run into that problem where you watch supports play a cringe worthy imitation of tank…and dps mains have the luxury of being “dps MAINS”. I feel guilty personally if i pick a main. Its like giving a finger salute to the other 5 players on my team; potentially wasting their time.

So i often spend a lot of time playing tanks. The only person you can count on are the supports. Dps mains are on their own little missions generally. Supports and tanks have to look after each other in most cases. Its rare to find dps mains who peel.

with all the focus going into making dps, supports, defenders, and some off tanks more fun to play…could the blizzard team take a second look at main tanks. Maybe even just remove their static high hp barriers. Make them more like bullet spongers, peelers, and mobile initiators.

Orisa…could use fortify to gallop around faster than wall riding lucio, and maul or kick her enemies with hooves.

Rein…could have his charge be a toggle that he can stop at will, gives him 5 sec adrenaline rush buffs and be on a shorter cd.

With so much effort going into making hero’s that break barriers… stop making the primary tanks reliant on it.

Those players who play tanks, don’t often feel like they get a choice in the role…so could you make it more fun to play. There arn’t many people who willingly play tanks.

I considered myself a Main Tank Main for a lot of seasons, but as the buffs/nerfs slowly made them weaker and weaker, I just plain got frustrated. It’s bad enough that we had little variety even when Orisa was added, but right now it feels like our only impact on games is just existing. At least the off-tanks have some say on the way a game goes since they can reliably get kills like DPS can.

Honestly Main Tank players are treated as heroes just because we made it so somebody else didn’t have to play them…

Amén, it breaks my heart to hear this too. I tanked for two full seasons now cause no one else would and I’ve never been so frustrated in my life. It’s gotten so bad that I fear even coming back this season only to dread being forced to tank again. I want to help my team but this season tanking is something I just can’t do anymore it’s too much.

It’s been really frustrating to play main tanks. Heroes like junkrat and Sombra are making it unfun. Although Brigitte seems like a new option, it’s likely main tank players won’t be able to play her. Winston gets completely bullied by her, and having to chase a mercy that can just fly away at top speed is really frustrating. rein gets played with by heroes like junkrat pharah and Sombra, and orisa just stands there. Please add a new main tank, and help the few players that are willing to limit themselves to three heroes. The fact that junk is allowed to completely throw around all three is ridiculous. People often tell me to switch off Winston when there’s a junk or bastion, but the same thing still happens when I go orisa or rein. It’s pissing me off. I still love playing main tank, I just want to have more options

This season will be the first season I don’t play tanks in competitive. I’ll just flex support. I’m more than happy to play tanks in scrims and open division but solo queue for tanks is just plain not fun at all.

Not to mention that they just added a support who slaps you around as you come. Bridgette isn’t just anti dive, she woops up on tanks too. She makes Rein into her toy. He charges and she can insta stop him.

Aw, Orisa is so much deeper than “just stand there.” I had trouble getting into Rein, but played a lot of Orisa/Winston this season. I agree that things seem to be getting tougher though. After the Mei/Reaper buffs, I found myself forced of Winston more often. Brig makes that worse, but hopefully, Orisa does turn out to be a soft counter there? Otherwise, rip main tanks.

You have no honor if you think playing tank is no fun.
There is no greater glory than challenging the enemy team as Reinhardt. Taking them on, with all their weapons and abilities, with only a hammer.

I don’t know, I’ve played Reinhardt a lot in the past, it’s not that he’s horribly weak or just a walking shield, because he’s not that at all.

When I hit those fat shatters and win us the point, no one is crying about how weak he is. If you’re flexing from support to main tank, there is a lot of skill than meets the eye to Rein. The skill isn’t in the form of landing abilities or mechanical skill. It’s all about reading what the enemy team has, and what they’re trying to do.

Tanks can be fun, when playing someone like Reinhardt you’re almost calling the shots in the game, you’re positioning so your team can position around you.

I think the biggest detriment to Reinhardt hasn’t been hacks or Brigitte shield bash, but the fact that you lose your ult when interrupted. If there were any character that that shouldn’t apply to, it’s probably Reinhardt.

A common misconception is that your barrier is all you rely on. It’s good, it’s very important , but if you think the ‘barrier bashing’ assortment of heroes stops the functionality of Rein and Orisa , you’re not optimizing their kits .
You probably witness things in games like , a Rein standing at a choke with his shield up while the enemy shoots as they move in from spawn and arent even trying to push in yet, getting free barrier damage off …and other wastes of barriers .

The heroes are fine but they require coordination and that’s probably the actual problem , is a Rein or Orisa can do very little if 5 others don’t utilize the gift they give .

I recommend trying 3 stacking or higher if you want enhanced quality of games .

I’m a tank main and I love it. People don’t like to play tanks because Damage Blocked medals aren’t sexy, and my biggest problem is playing with DPS who know how to properly utilize a tank.

This isn’t the main point I’m making though. When i say they are not fun, im referencing the static nature of their playstyle. rein has a rocket attached to his back and a rocket attached to his hammer…but you dont go swinging without a shower of heals unless you have a death wish. Nor can you toggle how long you want to use charge, but reaper and dva can?
Orisa has 4 legs and she’s incredibly slow. If she actually galloped around like a ballistic horse, booping or mauling with her hooves, or leaping a whole story up to high ground. or onto players like winston. She’d be awesome to play.

Point is : are the main tank supposed to bully the front lines, or blockade it? There’s a reason they give up high dmg for high hp or armor.

If you don’t have fun on main tank it’s because your off tank is a doorknob.

Zarya should be talking to rein non stop walking in front eating her bubble tell him to eat his bubble. Blocking so she can laser and he can get healing moving in on the enemy’s front pushing forward start swinging killing everyone.

Orisa Hog is litterary a pick machine. Talking about what you see and where. Halt Hook Dead. Once your good enough you can halt hook mercy’s right off of their pharas. Or halting people into the environmental hook.

Winston is fun because he is meta and dva giving him matrix is op so no need to explain. Fun fact you can primal people into her bomb though.

Main Tanks are fun even op, but only if
A. You are good
B. You play with your teammate the off tank and COMMUNICATE. I just Dup Q

If you don’t think Orisa or Rein are fun - don’t play them!

I personally love Rein, and think he’s very fun to play. I personally think Orisa is mind-numbingly boring, but plenty of Orisa mains disagree.

so don’t play a shield tank…when your team needs a shield tank…because its not fun…when winning is fun?
