Hey everyone,
just going to say thank you in advance if you are looking at helping me.
I know that I am not an amazing player or anything but I feel like I am doing well and playing well but I am constantly losing.
I am always on voice coms, always listening to my team mates and trying to improve when I make a bad call or overextend.
I only play until I lose twice in a row because I tend to get frustrated and cant play to my best, but recently that only means two games before I am just distraught.
I am a tank main, specifically hog, but I am learning to flex to the other tanks so that I can benefit the team properly.
Here are two replays from today, but to be honest I feel like I cant keep coming back when all I feel like is a failure.
Please be as harsh as you’ve gotta be, I honestly just want to get better.
Replay codes:

thank you again

I know you may have been generalizing here but this may be a part of it. Even in the top ranks teammates will make stupid calls. While I know you wouldn’t listen if a teammate told you to charge off the cliff as rein, following your team blindly can quickly lead to a bad position.

I was generalising but I get what you mean, just hard when your trying to group up against bastion/orisa/rein and people run off cause they aren’t listening so I try and listen and be responsive as possible

Unfortunately sometimes the game is unwinnable/the other team is just that much more coordinated.

Umm, if you are playing plat and below… you can do better by leaving voice and playing your own game. Think of the game as a pve. Some of these bots are just better than others (on your team or the other). Those are the ones you want to work on killing first. VC in the lower (and a lot of times not just lower) ranks is so toxic its not worth being in, unless you like all that.

In solo queue I agree but if they can find a person or even a team they can play with and gain some chemistry? comms can be great for them.

My wife and I played together for ages shes a gold rank mercy but since she’s climbed
without me I dont want to bring her down

It depends, if you have chemistry and can keep from clogging comms with social talk then it can work really well. But the issue a lot of couples/friends have when playing together is that they get distracted and flood comms with random chatter.

Thank you both for your advice!
Im not sure if comms are my problem but I will definitely take your advice to heart

I was in high bronze but all these losses is pushing me further down
As a Mid-High gold tank main, I’ll see if I could help
(I’m updating this as we I go along)
Route 66:
- I noticed you let ur sheild break too often, remember you also have an Orisa which also has a shield, and let ur team use that shield while urs recharge, and when orisa shield breaks, you should have ur shield ready to keep protecting ur team, alternate between shielding and not, eat some dmg and let ur healers heal you. When you need ur shield to recharge, hide behind the payload or wall, so play near corners when you have low shield health
- Be more aggressive: when you won the fight on 1st point, push up and tell ur teammates to do so, and leave orisa and 1 healer on the cart. This allows you to bully singular enemies easily when they recontest not as a 6, which just makes ur lives significantly ezier. Taking this space is crucial because you limit the amount of control the enemy has over the location of the fight and create an advantage for ur own team allowing them to get to a more favorable position.
- On 2nd point, you noticed the enemy rein shield broke. This is a cue for aggression, not playing on payload and let the enemy rein recharge his shield. A rein without his shield is useless, tell ur teammates to push up with you and hit the enemy for free since the rein shield is down. Don’t push up by yourself, if you see your team by your side and at least 1 healer focusing on keeping you alive, push up and pressure the enemy. This doesn’t mean go hammer crazy, cooldowns like stuns and anti nades can end ur life quickly, switch between shielding and swinging, remember ur teammates are doing dmg as well. Shielding abilities not only keep u alive but as well as ur teammates.
- Don’t shield garbage dmg: eating a few junk nades when walking from point A spawn will not kill you as a tank, healing you receive gives ult charge to the healer so don’t be afraid to take some dmg. If you hard M2 ur shield before ur team has the chance to use it, it’s just wasting health. By the time you reach point A corner, ur shield is 700HP (not optimal). Use ur shield to block high burst dmg like micro missiles, stuns like sig rock, shield bash, etc. Also, use ur shield to protect teammates who are being focused fired and limit incoming dmg while taking space
- Taking space: holding ur shield while standing still achieves nothing, instead moves forward and takes the space with ur shield, if the enemy tank is dead the enemy can’t do anything but forced to back off. Swing at the tanks, get that ult charge, don’t hold ur shield when you are close to full health, do some dmg, when ur hp goes down to the 200, hold up ur shield and get healed, and back off a little, when fully healed, start swinging again to continue frontline pressure.
- Let ur shield recharge, put it down while behind Orisa’s shield
Thats just some Rein tips, but since ur bronze, It’s better to just play hog and solo carry. I climbed with rein coz I play with a reliable dps duo, if solo q then hog is the most optimal pick for climbing.

Play with one or two people you know and are certain that they are around the same skill level and competency. For some reason my success rates are a whole lot better when I pair with a friend I know. Don’t queue Competitive with people on LFG tell, they are randoms just like solo Q.
Thank you chirpy, I definitely need more playtime as rein because I know there are times he would be extremely useful. Your points will greatly improve my rein play.
And thank you jaezuhn, I have a few friends around my skill level but they get easily frustrated when they die once so its hard to get consistent plays off with them

Honestly play hog and solo carry. With ball and sig he’s one of the « solo high impacts carry tank » in soloq it’s thé best way to win, take hog and don’t play with ur team, play by using ur team. Look for « the only hog guide u’ll ever need » also existe for sigma and juste train ur mechanics and ur game sens (basiclly in bronze that mean not dying and do kills over and over again)
U’ll climb fast if u can do proper hook one shot combo and u don’t die often
And don’t try rein or orisa in bronze, u don’t have the team mate to be able to do anything, it’s pointless, juste take hog, take ur time, do some soft flanks and catch opportunities, do not force them
Last tip, remember, reaper is not a hog counter if u have ur hook and ur able to do proper hook os combo
The only real counter to a good hog is teamplay, luckly team play doesn’t existe until 3k5+

Thank you zodiack, I will be playing more solo i think after this, just hate to be that guy I guess.
But if it will get us the wins to start climbing it is worth a shot

Yeah i know it’s disapointing when u understand that ocerwatch is not really the « 6v6 play as a team » game that they said it is, but like we say us french speaker « ça fais chiez, mais voilà c’est comme ça »
Honestly it’s not like their is any major team synergy when I queue with a friend, literally with just the presence of 1 confirmed decent player the win ratios shoot up, it’s insane and really makes me wonder about the quality nof teamates matchmaker pairs me up with ordinarily.
Like yesterday I played with a friend and got 5 straight wins before he logged off. But afterwards I played some games by myself and essentially made zero progress as I got the same amount of wins and losses. This is pretty much the norm, progress with friends, stagnate alone.
Surprisingly I queue with a friend who is close to diamond while I’m barely Gold, and most of matches I play have 2-3 plats with the occasional diamond, yet those games are more successful than the silver games I solo queue.
How often do you play and how long? How many heroes do you main?
Do you play in EU or US?
If you are serious about climbing I can try to help you little bit more than just few tips here, let me know if you are interested and I will give you my discord where we can talk about what you need to do to climb.
Just correcting an error here:
Brig’s Shield Bash pierces shields since it’s a melee attack. You can’t shield it. Big things to shield are Roadhog’s Hook for example.
The rest of the info is top notch and as a high gold Rein/Roadhog/Winston, I can look these over tonight and offer my own insights OP.
