FOREWORD: This thread concerns the Overwatch League. It is therefore advised that folks with a bias against the OWL or Overwatch as a whole Go Try French Opera instead.
Hello, everyone, and welcome to Day 3 of the 2023 Overwatch League Playoffs, LIVE FROM THE MATTAMY ATHLETIC CENTRE IN TORONTO, CANADA! Yes, that’s right, ladies and gentlemen, just over a year after hosting the first ever Overwatch League LAN tournament in Canada, the Toronto Defiant and the Mattamy Athletic Centre is once again playing host to another LAN…this time with MUCH BIGGER STAKES!
5 teams from the West and 3 teams from the East began their quest for the title of Overwatch League champion Thursday afternoon. 2 of those teams saw their season come to a premature end yesterday, and unfortunately, 2 of our remaining 6 teams are about to get a one-way plane ticket out of Toronto, as today, the Lower Finals will determine who locks up the last 2 spots in the 2023 Overwatch League Grand Finals. First up, the 2018 Overwatch League champions themselves, the LONDON SPITFIRE, will battle the 2018 Overwatch League Quarterfinalists BOSTON UPRISING in a REVOLUTIONARY WAR rematch from Day 1 in the first Lower Final. Then, the 2022 Overwatch League bronze medalists and 2023 Midseason Madness runner-ups HOUSTON OUTLAWS will face the defending League champions DALLAS FUEL in a 2023 playoffs edition of the BATTLE FOR TEXAS for the second Lower Final. The winners of these Lower Finals advance to the 2023 Overwatch League Grand Finals! The losers finish 5th/6th, pocket $50,000 USD each, and are eliminated from the 2023 Overwatch League Playoffs.
6 teams enter, but only 4 will advance to the 2023 Overwatch League GRAND FINALS. Who will advance to the Grand Finals, and who will fall short? We’re about to find out, so grab your popcorn, take a 6-pack of your favorite age-appropriate beverage out of the fridge, and make sure you’re not sitting too close to the edge of your chair! Day 3 begins…NOW!
OWL PERKS HEADS-UP: There is a bounty of rewards available during the playoffs and Grand Finals, including skins, sprays, a name card, some battle pass tier skips, and several other rewards. HOWEVER, due to the large amount of viewers expected over the course of the broadcasts, all in-game perks/items/rewards may not appear in your account until OCTOBER 8, 2023 at the earliest. Remember, good things come to those who are patient.
REGARDING SEMI-RECENT NEWS: All of us OWL fans are all fully aware of the looming vote regarding the Overwatch League’s future that will be coming after the playoffs…and as I said many times previously, if the sunset of the League is the price we pay to see Kotick unceremoniously removed from the “Head Honcho” office, then I will gladly take that deal every day of the week and twice on Sunday (heck, I’ll even throw a big party where everyone, from the “Blizzard haters/doubters” to the “Blizzard shills” is invited). THAT BEING SAID, if these playoffs are to be the last Overwatch League matches, we would prefer to enjoy them in peace. Using this or any other of my threads to name-and-shame, bash, or troll myself or other forumgoers, especially if it is blatant or excessive, will not be tolerated and will be flagged without hesitation. Don’t be THAT guy who misses the “OWL is dead” party cos of a forced forum vacation.
A FINAL NOTE: The same rules that have applied all season still apply to this week’s threads: Keep the conversation at a T for Teen rating and keep the trolling to a minimum. As always, thank you in advance and whether you are watching from home, on the go, or from the Mattamy Athletic Centre itself, ENJOY THE 2023 OVERWATCH LEAGUE PLAYOFFS!
