2 week silence confusion, not toxic

I feel like what you are suggesting is super likely as I was just instantly queuing back up after games and sending the message at the start.

However, is that spam? Like per Blizzard, I am curious, is one message, sent once but sent in multiple games count as spam? Would two messages the same way count?

Just hoping I can get some solid definitions laid out so that myself and others can avoid being silenced in the future.

My understanding is that while Blizzard has guidelines/examples for each category, the reality is that its community regulated. So whether something is considered spam is not down to some official definition of what spam is, but rather whether or not the other people in the match consider it spam.

If it were me personally, if I ran into the same person every match and they just copy-paste the same line into chat every match over and over, I would probably consider it spam. I personally usually dont report it unless they’re being rather eggregious with it, but I could see a lot of people seeing this as “spamming the chat” because its not in any way related to the game. They might find it annoying after the first couple times.

I’ll also be honest, up until your thread I didn’t even know what that quote was and had to look it up, so most people probably wouldnt even consider it “a funny meme” or anything. A lot of people are probably just confused about what random line of text you’re posting every match.

My honest suggestion – just stop copy-pasting the same thing into chat every match and you’ll probably be fine. I think if you’re looking for some official defintiion, it sounds like you just want to straddle the line on a technicality.

Putting anything in chat that is obviously a copy/paste of some meme or other foolishness will almost always get you reported by someone

Yep I think you are correct and I will have to stop that behavior.

But in the future if I say “hello” at the start of every game and someone reports me for that, is that spam and bannable?

Really hopeful we get guidelines so that appeals and bans will be infinitely more clear cut and defined.

I don’t mind stopping what I am saying with the coconut meme, but I do want clarity that says I won’t get banned for something as banal as saying hello

Depends on the context. If you say hello 20 times per match over and over again, then yeah perhaps. But like I said, a lot of the policing here is based on community perspective. I think most rational people would not consider this spam, so even though you’re mechanically doing the same thing (saying one specific thing every round), the content of the message does play an important role in that.

So the shorter version is - probably not just because people wouldnt contextually consider it as spam.

I dont really think you’re going to get a clearly defined red line that you can walk up to and not cross. You have to use your judgement and think about how people might react to what you type.

I understand that some people, perhaps like yourself, often just want to lighten the mood or spread the joy. But consider that, especially in an online environment, there’s a large diversity of people who may not find all the same things funny or like particular mannerisms. I can be tough sometimes because in real life you typically have close friends who are like-minded individuals who all share a lot of things in common, so it can be hard to know when the things you say or do dont actually resonate well with a bunch of people.

except it isnt false, unfortunately

People - many people - have gotten actioned for abusive chat when they do not communicate at all - no keyboard chat, no voice chat

The reason for this is plague known as false reporting

Because of this issue, one can be entirely innocent of any rule-breaking and yet be actioned…and many players have expereinced this

Everything you say here is perfectly reasonable.

My gripe about the lack of clarity is that given that this is a private company its not bound by any free speech and can make its own rules. So I do expect that given their ability to do so, they would have rules that are clear.

Even if the rule is to say like you suggest, “Our moderation depends on vague broad rules and then the context of each report” or something similar, I would totally think that is a vast improvement to have that said out loud or listed on the website compared to the current way things stand.

But I think you are correct in that it is overwhelmingly more likely they do not update any code of conduct or rules just based off my ticket and complaint

Nothing. There’s no real people working at CS.

None?

Not at all

There are real people working in customer service

I have worked with some of them

I dont think there are nearly enough of them, but they do exist

I am the most toxic player I have ever encountered in any of my games, and I rarely get disciplined for it. Every time I log on, I expect to see a notification saying my chat privileges have been suspended. But I rarely get one.

I didn’t believe the whole “you can’t say anything these days without being reported” crowd. So I thought, I wonder what it does take to get silenced.

I wasn’t just saying diff.

This doesn’t add up to me. Before my experiment I had zero warnings or punishments, and I would frequently communicate in a normal non-toxic way. Years and years of comms and no false reports.

I act toxic for 3 months and receive a silence.

4 days later and STILL waiting on a HUMAN response from the customer support team Yikes!

You are very confident they going to respond to you when you clearly spammed a political statement ?

Surprised you still at it.

Dude, didn’t you say you muted this thread?

You are not helpful and your snide comments are rude.

Do you have nothing better to do than chime in on my thread?

I am trying to get answers for the community, not just myself, so yes, I am still looking for a response from the OW2 team.

i am part of the community and I answered to you. YOu posted a meme on the current presidential candidate and passed your twitter agenda to make people laugh. You have agreed to all of this in this very thread.

You also spammed it 2 or 3 times every game. You got reported.

What else do you need ? What makes you think they are going to respond to you after you spammed and typed all this ?

give me one reason. Its pretty obvious here what you tried to do during an election season. people got mad and reported you.

You 2 more strikes - the final one is a perma ban. Take heed.

Multiple people called you a troll poster on this thread, I have to agree at this point.

Get help.
