Hello! I am a game dev at a smaller studio and have experience in UI/UX art on a few titles. I understand the redesign of the competitive ranks to allow them to be more identifiable and progress visually in a more logical way, including the re-colours. I do think the progression isn’t quite as impressive due to the colour changes and the shapes almost look a little too similar even though it’s logical… I am a little sad about diamond losing it’s signature look and looking like plat while having some of the higher ranks look less exciting due to the colour changes, but that could be classified as a subjective opinion.
What I don’t understand is why there are completely different icons representing the exact same ranks in the player profile. Having two completely different styles of icon representing the same thing is extremely confusing and inconsistent. Please bring back the rendered icons to the player profile. I understand the simplistic ones are easier to read in the smaller setting, but it’s just not it. If anything, having a larger read of the fully rendered rank icons in the player profile would be much better visually, and would help show off the beautiful art on them.
Some suggestions:
- The “Most Played Heroes” section could probably be re-aligned vertically to the left of the rank section, making room for a redesigned way to display the ranks in a larger format.
- The dark bars backing the rows for each role’s rank could be done away with in favour for a less restrictive “floating” design with a small, faded horizontal line across the row behind everything as an anchor for the row. This would allow the rendered rank icons to be scaled up without having to worry as much about spacing and padding clearance of the current rectangle bars.
Probably lots of other solutions but I don’t have time to do mockups or roughs lol. But those flat icons need to be done away with and the rendered difference between rank icons should be pushed to be more progressively exciting than they currently are.
