Hard to believe that one of the favourite maps is being impacted by leavers. Just had 2 kings row games in the last hour (1 a backfill) that both got cancelled because of too many leavers. Seems if 4 people leave on 1 team it gets cancelled. And it wasn’t even 4-stacks - the players left 1 at a time. Backfills slow to come and others leaving before they arrive.
This game can’t survive like this. This last patch may have just about killed it if they can’t rush out some changes.

This is not a server issue. It’s people being babies and dont want to lose so they leave the game, and since OW has the most pathetic leaver penalties of any PvP game ever they get away with it.
Read around, check the forums and Reddit. There’s definitely a weird big and server problems right now

It’s the only map I saw this - plenty of leavers but only King’s row had games cancelled - and the games were quite a bit apart, maybe 50 minutes. I don’t think server issue. Nobody on the other teams left.
In the game I got backfilled into we were still a player down and the other team was happily spawn camping even though it was 4v5 (and also before I joined I assume when it was 3v5). That made more people leave. Quite glad it got cancelled and they didn’t get any rewards for the game. Served them right.
The people I play CTF with have had to log in to alt account and have them spectate to not cause matches to cancel for years. This is not a new issue.
The OPs issue is within the last hour and describes exactly the issues loads of people, including myself, have had. There’s a “applying update” bug/ server problem
That may be a specific cause of his matches canceling, but the problem of canceled matches has existed for years and isn’t a server problem.
People shouldnt be leaving the games in the first place.
I have had matches like this as well, they really need better penalties. I cannot even report these people, because they disappear from recent players list. Leaving people who also stay after others have left, to suffer, try to pull extra weight, and lose rank is not okay. There needs to be a better solution to this.
I think it would help if OP clarified if it did give the “Servers closed due to an unexpected error” and threw them directly into another match, or if the match ended and put him back in queue because of so many leavers.
Either is possible.

No error. The message at the top of the screen was about not enough players to continue, finding new match. In the 2nd game we were already at 2v5 and I guess as soon as the other guy left it ended the match. On the first game I think 2 had left, we waited for about a minute and nobody joined and then I believe a duo left so again it ended when it went 1v5 with the same “not enough players to continue. finding new game” message.

I, and many many others, have been booted out in the last hour with an “applying update” bug where you can’t load into a game because you get stuck on this screen. I agree with your op that leavers are a problem in the game but this seems to be blizzard being blizzard with their servers
Doesn’t that usually boot everyone out of the match together, though? I’ve had that a few times but the entire lobby usually gets booted back into queue.
I agree this is happening and it happened to me, but I don’t think it fits because a couple of the leavers requeued and came straight back into the game and then left again. Standard leave, queue, backfill into the game you left, leave.
Seems to be happening randomly to people. I was playing QP and managed to log back in but it was exactly as others have described with people constantly joining and leaving. Some people in comp have reported suspensions because of it. Just head to the ow sub Reddit and sort by new and you’ll see loads of people saying the same thing
