Gotcha, you played support only when there was open queue. We need about 50 thousand more players like you to have made open q work.

the game can be played with any 6 characters, regardless of what roles are or are not represented and in what numbers they are represented

You are completely right. If the enemy team has 5 dps and a zen, you sure can get away with doing the same. However thats not the problem, the problem comes when the enemy team picks shield tanks and your team doesn’t even have a main healer. The problem is from the players perspective matchmaking was a toss up.

Maybe if blizzard added an option like “Don’t que me with players who have higher than 40% dps play time” Open que would have worked and it could have worked well.

flex players in particular left in droves, as their style of play was no longer available at all

I have no doubt many people left. I also have no doubt that many many many more people would have left if 222 wasn’t added. I have no doubt the open que supporters are a tiny minority of the players now and then.
