144hz monitor is probably the best upgrade you can make

My old monitor was 60 FPS. I improved dramatically from the upgrade. On Ana, my average accuracy went up at 15%. I land twice has many sleeps. Today I slept two ulting genji’s. I also don’t get fatigued as quickly. The experience is SO MUCH better. It looks SO different. I got the BenQ eSports 24" XL2411K for $230.

Before you switch you should make sure that your computer can handle generating 60+ FPS. To do this you need to:

Options > Video > Display Performance Stats > On
Limit FPS > Custom > 400

You should jump into a custom game (under game browser) to see what FPS you get. This way you can easily leave after checking. If you are not getting high FPS it’s most likely because your graphic quality settings are too high.

You should go back to options and change all graphic quality settings (especially the ones under advanced) to low. Then go back and see what you are getting. If you are happy with the number, jump into a quickplay or comp game and double check the FPS there. You can google for articles or videos that explain graphic settings in more detail.

After you get a monitor there is a few things you need to do to make sure it is actually in the maximum FPS. I didn’t know this and was playing at 60 FPS the first day, dissapointed because it didn’t seem any different XD. Then my friend told me how to fix it so to save you the trouble make sure you do this as well.

On your computer (not in Overwatch):
Display Settings > Advanced > Display Adapter Settings for (Device) > Monitor > Screen Refresh Rate: 144hz (Mine was set to 60hz)

In Overwatch:

Options > Video > Display Mode: Full Screen
Resolution > (Whatever your res is + (144))

It won’t run more than 60 FPS in windowed mode.

If it is possible for you to upgrade to a 120FPS+ monitor I highly recommend it. I don’t think there is any better upgrade you can make for as little as $200.

I’d recommend everyone a 140hz+ screen even if its just for office stuff.

It feels so much better to use.

On a thight budged you can always reduce the resolution at the start if your gpu can’t handle it.
Until you upgrade gpu too

Window mode seems buggy, in my case it works flawless on 160fps 165hz

144fps on 1080p is pretty easy nowadays to achieve (my old gtx 970 managed it)

144fps on 1440p is getting hard, a 1070 will do just fine

But even my 2080 ti has a hard time to keep 1440p 160fps with all settings on max and 100% render scale.

Sacrifices have to be made, but nothing has more value than fps

For a price, i paid 800 and you can get a even better screen for 300-400 currently
(swiss prices)

I run 60hz, but 8ms response :frowning: = <500 aim
But it’s 30inch, 1600p, IPS, glorious picture quality.

I’m saving up for a 27inch 240hz. May as well jump from the worst to the best.
Might get to Silver rank because of it.

I think desktop use 60 hz anyway.

Nope
And i’d definitely realize if i sit at work or at home. Its not a huge or even a benefit at all besides more eye pleasing.

Thats how i check if 165hz is enabled.
Simply doing circles with the cursor will tell you if its 165hz or 60hz
Ofc i cannot tell if its 60 or 75 but i know if its 60 or 144/165

I have a 4k 60hz and a 2k 165hz at home, i could try everything…
My friends keep saying my 60hz is broken.

Thats completely fine.

Others don’t want to pay for a nice bed or a nice expensive car, or a huge house.
Expensive but good knifes
Great water pipes inhouse
Fibre network
And ppl like me, sitting 8h + on our pc at home buy expensive pc equippment. A chair that fits us.
A desk that helps us sitting healthy if not the right height by accident costs something.

Nothing wrong with everyone spending money as they wish to.

Same with pay or watch ads.
If i watch youtube 5h+ a day, i can tell you the livetime i got through no ads is more than worth the small monthly fee

We sell screens at our office ultra cheap, but for me (a pc ethusiast) the company is avoiding trash costs
But our employees get cheap screens for home office. They never gonna use them otherwise

They spend theyr time not on the pc.
They watch tv for example.
Lol on a expensive tv.

Besides, one should never feel bad for having the ability to “waste” money on non survival critical stuff. I call it a achievement in live

You probably need a DisplayPort cable, too. A lot of monitors and video cards can’t do 144Hz over HDMI, and/or with older HDMI cables.

Mine came with a display port cord.

This has been scientifically proven. Google “ Unlock Your Full Potential - How Higher Frame Rates Can Give You An Edge In Battle Royale Games” because I can’t post links.

Thanks for going through the steps on your PC and on Overwatch, to make sure you’re in 144. So many people get a 144hz monitor, and forget to switch their display adapter properties or their resolution in game.

From 144 to 240hz can still feel a pretty noticble improvement too. I actually lock my fps to 236 and use freesync on my 240hz, and it feels amazing, very responsive with absolutely no tearing. 60hz feels like slide show now😂

yeah that’s what i meant :).

i guess i’m sort of a minimalist cause i really only buy things i need… so my setup is as good as i need i to be.

could be more of a settings issue too, maybe your sens is crazy high or too low, but practice also makes perfect

Im aiming for one now.

Goal: 144 or 165Hz, WQHD, 27", VA panel. price range shouldnt exceed 350€. Looking out daily for a quick catch.

I play at 144hz on borderless window. It works.

Pro tip. If some day you notice that you can get past 60 in ANY game, look at MSI Afterburner / Rivatuner FPS cap.
It happened to me past week. I spent 3 hours on it until I read on some forum about the issue being that.

My friend told me most people play on 24". I really like the 24" size, I think 27" would be too big.

I have a 144hz monitor and can run at that rate but it really depends on how old you are and what kind of computer you have. 144hz@144fps(constant) only gave me a minor increase in SR. I had a much better return when it came to SR gain by just upgrading my computer and lowering my latency (sub-5ms) but staying at 60hz.

However, this is coming from an old man over 30 so… take it as you will. There was a slight change in fluidity of movement with 144hz over 60hz but not much else.

Also take into account the server tick for overwatch is LIKELY 30 or 60. (leaning more toward 30)

wat

The myth that you lose your reflexes with age is the anti-vax movement of the gaming world.

Reflexes are trained through practice. The more practice you have, the better you are. Martial arts is a perfect example. Go watch some O-Sensei videos.

Muscle strength is one thing but I’m specifically talking about eyesight. Especially in older individuals eyesight tends to degrade with age especially outside of your 20s. Whither it be due to age, physical disability, or things like diabetes eyesight has a tenancy to slip.

As for reflexes, muscles break down more quickly as you age and can stay at physical peek for much longer as long as you’re willing to put in the effort to keep them that way.

We were talking about 144hz vs 60hz in this thread and I was specifically referring to eyesight. Your mileage may very and that depends on your age. Someone in their 40s or 50s isn’t going to get as much out of a higher refresh rate monitor as someone in their late teens/early-20s. I’m most certainly not being conspiratorial on this matter but I can see why you came to that conclusion.
