10fps, 100% gpu and cpu usage in OW1 and OW2

This issue started a couple months ago. I’ve tried updating all drivers and a fresh install of OW with no luck. Overwatch loads and as soon as it tries to load a character model on the title screen it drops to 10fps, 100% gpu and cpu usage. My laptop doesn’t have any issue with other games, like elden ring runs at 60fps on max settings, so I was hoping maybe it wouldn’t be an issue in OW2, but the issue happens with OW2 too.
I confirmed overwatch is running on the dedicated GPU too.

DXDIAG:

100% hardware usage isn’t a game client problem, it’s tied to how much Windows allows the game to use those pieces. Due to your processor, check for overheating, as it will limit the amount of CPU and GPU available for use, making it look like 100% usage

I used HWMonitor to monitor the system’s temps and they stay at a reasonable temperature while the fps drops. It shows every core maxed at 100%. After a few minutes of running at 100% utilization they start to get hotter but it’s clear that it’s not an overheat throttle that’s causing the performance issues.
As I mentioned, Overwatch and Overwatch 2 are the only games that have these performance issues, and it’s literally as soon as the game loads that this happens.

what gpu dose you’re laptop have and do you not have models set to low?

2070 RTX. I tried setting all graphic options to minimum and the fps doesn’t improve at all compared to higher presets.
The FPS counter starts at 60 and then plummets to under 10 once the menu tries to load a character model. I also get about 3 seconds of input lag trying to navigate the menu. Same performance issues if I actually load into a game.

in this situation it would be a very poor optimization on blizzard behalf maybe when they were trying to optimize for the mobile gpus one of the developers accidentally set a 12 level Vector to like 120 prob this is a blizzard issue not a you’res

btw you just doxxed you’re self

You didn’t dox yourself. Please note that I don’t work at Blizz, and I’m not motivated to make them look innocent. However, the issue you’re describing just isn’t being reported by other players.

I noticed your GPU drivers are quite old, so you should start by updating those.

This is a Windows error:

Problem signature:
P1: dwm.exe

dwm is the Desktop Windows Manager, which is required for running all visual elements/apps.

Problem signature:
P1: OculusDash.exe

Problem signature:
P1: AWCC.Service.exe

You’ll want to address the Alienware Control Center error also.

Thanks for all of your help. I tried to fix everything you mentioned, but in the end I found out as long as I close the lid to turn off the laptop monitor, then start the game, it will run at 60fps on the external monitor. Not sure why, but I’m willing to give up a monitor in order to make the game run correctly.

Are you extending the display normally?

Yes, as far as I’m aware. I’m doing it through Display Settings > Extend Desktop to the display.

I think that might be causing the problem. Can you try disabling it? Someone mentioned this in another thread concerning laptops only and a Windows issue.
