1080 TI CRASH "Your rendering device has been lost"

Hey guys, getting “Your rendering device has been lost!” error and need someone with more experience to look for something faulty here. Each time it happens my computer freezes for a couple seconds, then both of my monitors flash black for a couple seconds, and I get the error message + game crashes. I’ve seen a couple other posts on this forum and I got a dxdiag pastebin https://pastebin.com/y7mqnuv0 and HWMonitor installed if necessary. I have tried tweaking many settings in NVIDIA control panel and ingame but nothing seems to work. I’ve tried playing with just one monitor plugged in but that doesn’t work either. Every guide online has exactly the same useless tips. Thanks.

I have the exact same issue with the same card. I didn’t have this issue with Overwatch 1 so I hope it just launch day bugs

I have crashes like this for like almost every game on my computer (even roblox lmao) so I hope its the same issue for all of them and I can get it resolved

If most other games on your computer work for you then I don’t think we have the same problem

How bout your GPU temp?
You have two different resolutions on both monitors?
What’s the gpu driver version?

GPU tends to max around 60C ish in game (rarely ever reaches 70C), in a furmark stress test it crashed around 74C with a “hot spot”??? around 88C h ttps://imgur.com/a/JjorlPu (forum wont allow me to post links for some reason just minus the space)

one monitor is 1080p and the other is 1440p but i mentioned that it still crashes even when i only have one monitor plugged in.

driver is the latest version, nvidia 517.48

edit: did a little bit of power limit + temp limit testing in afterburner and I got it not crashing for ONE ATTEMPT ONLY at about 90C

usually if i have too aggressive an undervolt/overclock i’ll get this. everything else in life could be stable, but overwatch has a special ability to hit the secret sauce and show instability

no over/underclocks in afterburner or XTU. default settings

Yeah, I’m getting that error again as well. I used to get it a lot about a year ago on my 3090, but not so much recently. I’ve gotten it three times already in OW2 though.

I’m guessing you changed max temp limit? By default GPU will throttle/crash at 83 which would usually result in symptoms you’re describing.

Afterburner has a temp graph, try to check when the temperature is high while you’re in game.

Having temperature limit maxed out is totally fine but it shouldn’t reach this high temps anyway.

Is your FPS uncapped? When was the last time you dusted off your PC?:stuck_out_tongue:

the max temperature it has ever gotten to in game has been like 60C or 65C before a crash. Yes I’ve been looking at afterburner chart during (the 1 minute of) game. Normally I play uncapped fps but I’ve tried vsync and that doesnt work either. I haven’t cleaned my gpu before and I have had it for a few years but like I said I’m not sure overheating is the issue

Why did you mention 90C then? I’m confused? plus isn’t the hotspot in monitor the highest temp recorded?

Try capping your fps to your monitor refresh rate. What’s the FPS you’re normally getting?

okay so i cleaned my GPU and applied new thermal paste. For some reason, my game is working now, (maybe an update idk) but temps are very similar to before. also, i already said this, I’ve tried capping my fps to 165 and vsync but it wasnt working at the time. I normally average around 180 fps
