100% CPU Usage when launching

As mentioned on the title.

When I start launching Overwatch from Battle.net launcher, my CPU Usage goes up to 100%. Almost every 1st launch of the day will cause my PC to freeze and not able to close Overwatch. A restart of the PC is needed before everything goes well again.

I’m having the same issue. Restarting doesn’t always work. I really don’t have any good info to contribute :frowning:

Same issue here. Saw another thread about this 2 days ago. New problem maybe??
My pc revs up high and cpu usage is 98% for like 20 secs. (I have i7-8700K)

I also noticed this after the latest patch. My Overwatch’s visual settings were even replaced and the game decided to max out the settings (including setting the resolution to some weird one, way above of what my monitor supports and could only use the mouse in windowed mode, until I changed it back).

Same. My CPU starts overheating and I cant even play the game without stuttering for a minute or two after launching. This started happening few days ago then I reinstalled the game and it went away for 2 days, now it does that again even after second reinstall. There is something going on with Overwatch because I dont have any kind of this problems in any other game I play, which are much more demanding than OW. Ive also done all benchmarks with 3 hours of Memtest86 included.

I have i3-10105F (Which is basically new budget version of i7-6700) and my temps are usually arround 60C in Apex legends. When I launch Overwatch it goes straight to 70+C/70% utilization (I looked into Resource monitor and thats really Overwatch application using all of my CPU) and I said, I cant even play the game for minute or two, if I try to play my CPU goes to 100%. After some time waiting in main menu Overwatch CPU utilization goes back to 5% as usual.

Please fix your game before it fries someones CPU, saw a thread with 97C on CPU in OW which is really bad.

Same here. After I launch the game my CPU spikes to 100% for a few minutes. After that it goes down to normal values and I am able to play.

I have the same problem with my 5600X and RTX 3050
This problem came after changing GPU
The problem went away for a while, I think I changed the video card driver to a later one, not sure. Now the latest driver is at 23.07, the problem is still with me

Its not you, your GPU or your drivers. This problem trully went away for a bit and then came back. Its just a coincidence you just swapped GPU.

Dont try finding issue in your system because there is none.
I think most people even dont even realize this CPU spikes unless they have i3 like me and cant even play the game without stutters for few minutes after launching it. People mostly have unnecesarilly strong CPUs like i5, i7 or even i9 for gaming so they dont notice this. I mean i3 is more than okay when you have a budget GPU.

Ive also noticed that when this happens the Overwatch application slowly fills RAM from 1500mb to 2300mb and when it hits approx 2300mb this problem goes away.

I have an I9, and it is very obvious actually. If I check temps, they go up to 70°C while that happens (usually around 50-55 during this time of the year), fans are set to the max (making it even more noticeable) and FPS will remain lower than the limit, until it goes back to the normal.
It also sometimes freezes the game if I try to go into a queue while it is happening.
These issues used to happen a few months ago (very briefly though), then stopped, now it does this again while launching the game.
Reinstalled GPU drivers, removed all tweaking software, reinstalled the game… nothing fixed it.

Literally same exact issue. When I launch my game the CPU usage goes through the roof and there is about a 50% chance the game will freeze, I’ll still get audio but can’t alt f4 and the only fix is a PC re-start. I’ve re-installed game, ran scan and repair, updated all drivers, etc etc etc. nothing has fixed it.

Had the same issue.

Installed the latest Nvidia drivers 516.93 and the problem went away. (ROG STRIX RTX 3090)

Recently formatted my PC and updated everything. CPU usage returned to normal (fans barely noticeable and FPS locking on the correct number).
Using the same apps and only the GPU driver had a more recent version. Not sure if that was the issue (could return later, that has happened before).

Not sure if this is the same issue, but ever since OW2 beta started, every few matches in OW1 when a map loads my PC completely restarts. This has happened probably 20+ times since the first beta. What is going on? Is this hurting my PC because I can’t keep playing if it is.

This looks more like faulty RAM or something. I dont know. My PC never restarts itself.

It can has a lot of reasons but I think Overwatch isnt one of them in this case.

If you can RMA your PC under warranty just do that to make sure your PC is okay I guess.
