10 new rules for competitive

Rule #1

Don’t assign players to a team who they just beat. They already proved they and/or players they were with were better. Don’t put them right onto the team of people they just beat.

Rule #2

Don’t assign players to play against a team they just won with. They just proved they were all decent players and won a game. The odds of some randoms winning against them are probably low.

Rule #3

Increase avoid list to 30. There’s more than 2 Hanzo/Sombra mains out there.

Rule #4

Significantly decrease points lost for players who did far above average in their game. I.E. Gold elims (40) Gold damage (16k) 3 deaths… on a losing team should not lose 25 rating. More like maybe 5.

Rule #5

Significantly increase rating for players who did far above average. I.E. Gold elims (35), Silver damage (8k) Gold healing (12k) and 3 deaths… gaining 25 points for a game like that when you lose 25 points for a game is rather meh. Should gain more like 40.

Rule #6

No more swapping after time/payload is at last 20%. No more swapping to bastion on last point just cause you’re losing hard. Or swapping to lucio/tracer/mei just to dive onto the payload to stop it.

Rule #7

No more placement matches. Just start where you left off.

Rule #8

If players are teamed with someone in a lower bracket you get a notification if you want to join the game or not. I.E. You are a Plat level player and a 3 man team has 2 gold players in it. You get a pop up that says :

“You’ve been matched with a team who has 2 gold players on it, would you like to join them?”
[Yes] [No]

There’s no reason you should be half way to diamond and get a bunch of gold or even silver level players on your team.

Even better would just to have it as a game option you can check.

Rule #9

If the attacking team completed the objective with 5:30 left on the clock, the new attacking team must match or beat that time in order to win the game. No more going into more matches with more overtime and ended up in a tie.

Whoever gets the payload to the end the fastest, or caps the 2nd point the fastest, WINS!

Rule #10

More points need to be assigned to the winners, and removed from the losers, when a game is lost or won by a significantly huge margin.

For instance:

If your team pushes the payload to the end with 5 minutes left on the clock and the enemy can’t even cap the payload to begin with then your team should get HUGE (50+)points for winning and the other team should get HUGE(50+) points for losing. The game obviously wasn’t even close. Bad teams should get penalized hard for doing so poorly.

Now if your team pushes the payload to the end in overtime and the other team pushes the payload within 20 feet it obviously was a close game which means teams were nearly equal skill and they gain/lose a normal amount of rating.

The result of this would mean even though you might be on a team that could lose at the very least you could try your best to push a payload as far as you can to at least not lose as many points. Rather than people just not caring and throwing a game cause they feel it will be a loss no matter what.

Will you agree with all of them? Probably not. But I think big changes are needed for ranked based on what I’ve seen.

Rule 1 and 2 and 3 don’t work outside of the more populous elos.

Rule 4 and 5 exist to an extent below Diamond. To make it more drastic only further encourages selfish play and rewards focusing on stat padding rather than winning.

Rule 6 and 7 and 8 just seem out of nowhere and unnecessary.

Rule 9 is a bad change. As it exists now is better.

Rule 10 would be stupid. Some players just don’t work well together. This would also be garbage for games when the matchmaker decides to put 4 Mercy/Moira mains on one team. Nothing you can do about that.

Well if people are Mercy/Moira mains and can’t learn to accomodate a team, perhaps they should lose more rating then. People seem to hate one tricks around here why not punish them for only knowing how to do one thing.

Honestly if someone is only good with one hero I’d say I don’t want them on my team.

I wish there was a rule to disallow threads in which every single person in the community including the creator knows 99-100% of it will never come true for very obvious reasons

You throw out a wish list and hope even one comes true.

I wrote a review on Ana when she came out and at least one of those ideas did happen, making it so her sleep doesn’t wear off immediately to damage giving it a half second leeway.

Adding a time element to the game is a horrible idea being all team comps, not just one build for speed, should have a place in the game. Sort of like how a touchdown in the NFL is 6 points if you go with a flashy air attack or if you go with a grind it out rumble tumble ground game. Reach the goal is all that maters.

If we had a speed element to the game all of sudden you have to play dive and fast heroes or you just lose. It throws away what little bit of tactics we do have.

It also would allow entire matches to be won or lost off just one lucky ULT. I mean thing about that, a single Q press and “Hey reaper got everyone and we capped 1min sooner!! Yaaaaa”. You don’t want to boil down an ENTIRE round of comp into one ULT.

Rule 10 can’t be put into the game because which side goes first on payload maps is random. You could, like you say, push to the end with 5 minutes left and then the enemy team can’t capture the payload. Or, randomly, they could fail to capture and then your team could capture it and immediately win without having that push to show how dominant your team was. This favors the team that goes first to earn more SR.

Well I don’t think it favors either side I mean both teams get the same opportunity on the same map with the same hero picks. It’s about as even as anyone could hope for.

What I’m really hoping they push for here is to derank players more who really deserve it. And rank up players who play well. As it sits the game is like a ping pong match. Gain 25, lose 25, gain 25, lose 25 back and forth back and forth.

But in reality those games weren’t just wins and losses. Some of those games were won by a landslide victory which means the other team really had no business even being in that rank or the winning team should be much much higher rank.
