1-1-1-1-1-1 is the answer

Main Tank
Off Tank
Main DPS (hitscan)
Flex DPS (projectile)
Main Support (low aim/healing requirement)
Flex Support (high aim/healing requirement)

Now that we have divided the playerbase into 6 separate queues, we can have 6v6 back.

So you took the main issue, queue times, and made it exponentially worse. That is a staggering ability to completely misunderstand the problem.

MH is answer….just play and stop worrying about who’s what…every game is a different challenge

I take issue with categorizing hitscan and projectile as “main” and “flex” dps respectively. Whoever decided that’s how it’s supposed to be has none of my respect.

Back to the drawing board.

Anyone who mentions queue times when it comes to the 5v5 debate doesn’t live in reality. Here’s what’s real:

Tanks are redesigned into brawlers. Tank heroes are much more fun and engaging in OW2. You see players from picking tanks all the time in every single game mode possible except 5v5 role queue.

There are millions of players who love playing tank heroes. They just don’t want to solo tank in 5v5 role lock. The game mode is the problem, not the tank heroes.

Anything that does not force the number of tanks to be exactly 1 would be an improvement on queue times. Anything. Every game mode without forced solo tanking is filled with players picking tanks.

That is an interesting argument and I can absolutely confirm that you are correct. The only mode where tank is being forced to eat vegetables is role queue. All of the alternative modes never have any trouble finding tank players.

In fact, you could argue that is precisely the problem. Most tanks are playing other modes. They exist, they just do not want to touch the standard format.

This even applies, to a lesser extent, in quickplay. I have been working on my Winston in quickplay and all of a sudden I hate Reaper. Nevermind. Flats was right. Screw that corny weirdo.

Maybe I should join my brethren and use Winton in open queue?

I’d argue 1-1-1-1-1-1 should be more aligned like:

  • Main Tank - The barrier shield (kit can include non-barrier secondary shields alongside it main barrier shield)
  • Off Tank - “shield-like” non-barrier shield or no shield at all
  • Main DPS - “front-line” typical damage dealer
  • Supporting DPS - Snipers/Builders/“Technical support specialists”
  • Main Support - High heals, low damage + low use/effectiveness team supporting abilities
  • Utility Support - Low heals, high damage + high use/effectiveness team supporting abilities

Obviously some characters would need to be reworked to fit this mold (looking at you, Ana).

I was using the definitions mainly used in the pro scene.

Regardless, I think it is a neat idea and even one that will be eventually needed going forward.

One day we’ll see it due to having too many hero combinations, unless Overwatch 2 ends before getting there.

Man I want to see this. Just to see the main tank number. Like rein mains make up majority of those players. It would be hysterical.

And multiplie the queue time from 1 minute (5 in DPS) to 20 minutes (and 1 hour for DPS)
great…

Here’s how we know your premise is wrong: 6 years of OW1 and over 3 years of RQ in OW1.

We know for a fact that there are not enough tank players to support 222. It is also a mathematical certainty that splitting it up further would further lengthen queue times. So take the 15 minute+ prime time queue times in OW1 and make them significantly longer aka kill the game.

Imagine the queue times tho
