1- The ones competing to be long range burst damage dealers (snipers):

  • Widowmaker, Ashe and Hanzo.

2- The ones competing to be close range burst damage dealers:

  • Doomfist, Tracer, Reaper, Genji and Echo.

3- The ones that are damage spammers:

  • Hitscan: Mccree, Soldier and Bastion
  • Projectiles: Pharah, Junkrat, Torbjorn, Hanzo, Echo and Genji.

4- The “utility” ones:

  • Sombra, Mei, Symmetra and Torbjorn.

Some characters have hybrid niche: Hanzo, Echo, Genji, Torbjorn.

I guess these ramifications and their hybridization tell something about DPS viability.

no there’s 3:

  1. privileged/liked “skilled” DPS

hitscans - sombra - bastion + genji + hanzo

  1. “fine” if they don’t dare pose a problem to the privileged DPS

pharah, reaper, df (borderline with bottom category), echo, torb (borderline with bottom category), junkrat (borderline with bottom category)

  1. underprivileged/hated “unfun” DPS

sym, sombra, bastion, mei

Basically

  1. The ones that “eVeRyone LoVeS And WAnTS To Be bAlAnCEd”
  2. The ones that everyone loves AS long as they dont mess with the people in n1
  3. The ones that inevitably mess with people in n1 so theyre hated to the point of if you buff them to even be slightly viable, entitled crybabies will complain until their hearts stop

I guess you are right to a certain degree.

1- Widow, Ashe, Mccree, Soldier, Tracer, Genji and Hanzo

2- Pharah, Reaper, Echo, [Doom, Torb and Junkrat borderline with next category]

3- Mei, Sombra, Sym and Bastion

I’d argue that Soldier is too high, maybe he is category 2.
But others from the category 1 seems pretty accurate right now.
